Why did she get rescued from a tree? Was she trying to save a kitten, slipped, fell however before she hit the ground got her jacket caught on an outlying branch that slowed her descent but left her dangling mere inches from the ground? Did the local kids then turn up & ask her what she was doing hanging from the tree?
After all this was going on did the kitten jump safely down from the tree & run back to the farmhouse?

Mrs Jatz adventure :o: :scooter::scooter:

Day 1 :scooter:

Left home before it started to rain.:eek5:
Stayed dry until I got to Kawatiri where I had a chat to a couple of ladys who had just come up through the Buller gorge, they told me it was blowing a gale through there but didn't say anything about rain.
Well it started to pour down as soon as I left Kawatiri and didn't stop till I got to Westport.:crybaby:
On to Greymouth ( hope this weather gets better ).
Very windy all the way down past Punikaiki but on the bright side the rain had gone somewhere else, so I got the camera out.;)

http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/pp201/ztaj/Punakaiki2.jpg

I had been told to be careful just past Barrytown as the wind hits a bluff there and bounces back out at you so you get it from both sides.
I arrive in Greymouth just as the rain decides it likes my company after all.:oi-grr:

Day 2 :scooter::scooter:

I wake up and the rain has gone to play with someone else :2thumbsup 2 km up the road and it remembers me ( Oh shucks ):weep:.So I missed the turn off to Lake Kaniere, which I thought would be a nice loop to do.But I did find Lake Mahinapua. It even has an old steam boat on display.

http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/pp201/ztaj/Steamboat.jpg

I carried on through Hari Hari ( it's pouring again ) to Whataroa for coffee and a really yummy whitebait sammie :Punk: nom nom nom ( rain stopped ).

http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/pp201/ztaj/Oldroadrailbridge.jpg

http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/pp201/ztaj/WhitebaitatMahitahi.gif

Off I go headed for a friends cottege at Tatare for the night.:2thumbsup

http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/pp201/ztaj/Franz.gif

Day 3 :scooter:

Well guess what..... it's raining again :angry2: ( how fun ) and it's cold rain.:cold:
I'm on my way to find the sun, maybe Wanaka has it, Haast certainly does'nt there rain has ice in it.:cold:
Yay I arrive in Wanaka and they have sun...but they are waiting for it to SNOW !!!!
And guess what the rain caught up to me ( damn )
No pics today as it was to bloody wet.

Day 4 :scooter::scooter:

It snowed over night, very cold ( had to leave the heater on all night ).:niceone:
Had to change my plans as Milford road is closed , Te Anau is getting heavy snow and further south is raining and blowing it's tits off.
So a phone call to Shrek first thing to hatch a plan......:shifty:
Come over our way he says it's sunny over here and not windy ....yeah right !!!:oi-grr:
So off I go to meet up with the Shrek's, alls going well until just the other side of Roxs and then it gets windy:mellow: , further along the road the blow gets stronger , a bit further....stronger....stronger....gales...gales with snow:Oi: ( what did he say about the weather ) I decide to ride through an open gate before I get blown through a fence and ring Shrek to come get me.

http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/pp201/ztaj/OutsideRoxburgh.gif

Thankyou so much. :first:
Staying at chateaux Shrek tonight. Have to see what the weather does tomorrow before I decide which way to go.

http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/pp201/ztaj/atShreks2.gif

Day 5 :scooter:

Got up this morning and theres more snow on the ground ( yay ), at least it's dryer than rain.
The plan today is to go through Danseys and maybe stay with Oldrider, so Shrek makes a call to some block he knows in Danseys to see what it's like in there, all good and sunny through there :2thumbsup , then he rings Oldrider but no ones home so I'll ring them when I get closer. :weep:
Still no one home ( must be away ).Never mind maybe next time.
I have found out today that the 650 is to heavy for me to pick up ( thankyou kind locals for helping me ) just as well I was out of Danseys by then or I would still be there.

http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/pp201/ztaj/Danseyspub.gif

http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/pp201/ztaj/Danseyspost.gif

http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/pp201/ztaj/topofDanseys.gif

I decided to head to Omarama for the night.
When I get there the first thing to do is ring Shrek and Jatz to let them know I'm okay, then Timg to say I'm heading to your place next....buddie buddie.
Then tea and bed.

Day 6 :scooter:

It's a stunning day here today.
The original plan was to head over the Haka but since I can't pick up the bike and it's a low traffic area I'm heading to Fairly via Twizel.
But first breakfast at the frizzy sheep???

http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/pp201/ztaj/Omarama.gif

The lady at the camp recommended it and the 3 egg omelet was very yummy.
Wilst there a man came to have chat and was telling me about 2 friends of his from Wanaka that were riding from Alaska to Mexico on DR650's ( Andy and Ellen ), had I heard of them ?
He was surprised when I told him that I knew them and would have stayed with them if they hadn't been away.
After breakie it was back to the road.
Tekapo via the canal roads is nice.

http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/pp201/ztaj/canalroad2.gif

Poped into the church and had a talk with the paster who told me they can have up to 700 visiters a day. The busy wedding season starts now and goes till April with up to 4 weddings a week. It's a must go into just to look at the view out the window.

http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/pp201/ztaj/viewfromTekapochurch.gif

I then carried on to Fairlie for gas, off towards Methvin for a much needed coffee, I then took the road that goes through Windwhistle nice twisty wee bit of road.
I arrived at Timg's place for the night. Thankyou so much for having me again. :2thumbsup

Day 7 :scooter:

Late start to the day, waiting for Jatz to arrive in Chch after leaving home this morning.
We eventually arrive at the same BK after I go to the wrong one on highway 1 oops.
After a quick bite it's off to Akaroa for the night. Nice ride out there to.
Jatz took me out for tea at Bully Hayes, I can recommend the pork belly ( pork fat ), and I'm sure Jatz would recommend the lamb rack that he had.

http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/pp201/ztaj/Akaroa2.gif

Day 8

Transalp came out to give us a tour around some of Banks peninsula and back to the city via the Port Hills road.

http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/pp201/ztaj/TA-Copy.gif

http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/pp201/ztaj/PortLevy.gif

http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/pp201/ztaj/OldbuildingontopofLittletonhill.gif

Then he showed us some of the Chch C.B.D or whats left of it.

http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/pp201/ztaj/Chchquakedamage.gif

Thankyou T.A for showing us a bit of your back yard we need to come back for more exploring sometime.
We then headed for Kaikoura via Leader road and the inland road. Will have to go again when theres no pea gravel.
Kaikoura was busy with a triathilon and some old truck owners in town.

http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/pp201/ztaj/kaikouracoast.gif

Day 9

Happy birthday Jatz. :drinknsin
The last stretch home.
We stoped on our way up the coast to have a look at the baby seals swimming by a waterfall up in the bush. The waterfall was impressive and the seals were neat too.

http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/pp201/ztaj/waterfall.gif

Hey Jatz is that airhawk on your DR a proper size for the DR or is it generic? You know how it moves a bit like it isn't quite right?
I've seen some on DRZ & thoinking maybe of getting one but not sure if that slidey feeling is the norm for them or if it was moving around on the seat.

It's a generic type, "small cruiser" is the model I got. MrsJ used it a bit and seemed to find it alright once we had the air level set proper.
Transalper seems to like them, but he would, the WR needs something :msn-wink: although talking to him on Saturday he would like to try the "small pillion" model as it's a bit smaller

Due to the lack of interest in riding motorbikes by some of the other N.A.D.S. :Pokey: I decided to head out by m'self over Labour weekend.
Due to the forcast looking shit on the West coast I shot down the East :D

Cracker day !!

http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/pp201/ztaj/Labour%20weekend%202012/WP_000101.gif

Got through Chch o.k. then onto Geraldine/Fairlie..... still a nice day so I carried on

http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/pp201/ztaj/Labour%20weekend%202012/WP_000110.gif

And here's a couple for the adv purists who like to see some gravel.....
Shot up the top of McKenzie pass but there was no sign there  so this'll have to do...

http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/pp201/ztaj/Labour%20weekend%202012/WP_000112.gif

http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/pp201/ztaj/Labour%20weekend%202012/WP_000116.gif

The wind was kind of strong  so I didn't hang about.

After a night at the DB/Speights pub in Kurow I wobbled my way over Danseys pass

http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/pp201/ztaj/Labour%20weekend%202012/WP_000118.gif

At the top...

http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/pp201/ztaj/Labour%20weekend%202012/WP_000119.gif

then carried on through some towns and over the Haast pass

http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/pp201/ztaj/Labour%20weekend%202012/WP_000123.gif

Almost had to put my rain suit on here but the sight of my pulling it out of the bag scared the rain clouds away  Then it was just a quick trip up the coast to Greymouth without getting a ticket :D
After a night at the Duke backpackers I decided to shoot over Arthurs pass to catch up with JMJ in Rangiora. The wet stuff mostly stayed away so I didn't bother with the rain suit.

http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/pp201/ztaj/Labour%20weekend%202012/WP_000127.gif

Everything was great 'till I got to Porters pass

http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/pp201/ztaj/Labour%20weekend%202012/WP_000134.gif

Here's some other people heading home from the street races in Greymouth

http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/pp201/ztaj/Labour%20weekend%202012/WP_000133.gif

Rode down through Oxford to Rangiora where it was hosing down ....Brrrrrr
AFter a cuppa and catch up I donned the "suit" for the first time and made my way home over the Lewis

http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/pp201/ztaj/Labour%20weekend%202012/WP_000138.gif

Thats about it.... I had fun and covered a little over 2000k's :2thumbsup and the bike is ready for a service.
And here's what I got to ride around on for a couple of days while the Beemer was getting some luvin

("This image is enchantingly lovely") is an aria from the 1791 opera Die Zauberflöte (The Magic Flute) by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, libretto by Emanuel Schikaneder. The aria comes from Act I, scene I of the opera. Prince Tamino has just been presented by the Three Ladies with an image of the princess Pamina, and falls instantly in love with her.

Mrs Jatz was bikeless, so he graciously gave her the new(ish) DR650 and downgraded himself to the Bimmer...

Yip.... He died of un natural causes :D
The Mussolini bike.....?
It was just on loan from City Motorcycles :niceone: while the Beemer got a service. Bloody good service from a good outfit. I'll go back definitely.

While the DR was/is a good bike, it just didn't "fit". I coulda farkled the hell out of it to try and make it right for me. But it's still like putting lipstick on a pig, at the end of the day it's still a pig.
....I had to give Mrs J the DR (after I crash tested it of course :D ) besides which... I accidentally sold her 350

Hmmmm.... where to start

Well.... after a bit of an "interesting" 2012 and with the harvest fast approaching I decided a bit of a road trip was in order. Where to go ? and what to see ?
Family in Auckland was the decision and while I'm in the North I may as well have a look at this East Cape thing I'd heard about.

Firstly, pack a bit of gear

http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/pp201/ztaj/DSCN1608_zps0c44bec7.gif

I did take more, but that was the esentials

After diddling about for to long working and getting sorted I headed for Picton, missing the 2:00 ferry by 15 mins  No worries, I'll just chill out in Picton and wait for the 6:30. It wasn't as bad as it sounds, I ran into Pomgolian and chatted for a while over a beer and .chris showed up too. Before long the ferry arrived :woohoo:
Bye south island :wavey:

http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/pp201/ztaj/North%20Isl%202013/ByeSouthisland_zps953bf4f9.gif

I'd tee'd up to stay with a couple of random strangers in Wellington while waiting for the ferry. I had the address and the instructions to follow my nose and I'd get there. My nose must've been broken as I had to stop and check the phone/gps a couple of times, but I got there eventually.
Cheers Bald Eagle and Ratti, your hospitality was excellent

Day 1: After getting a pretty vague clue for where the N.Z. Tag may be I set off the next morning. After another missed turn off ( a recurring theme as it turns out  )and deciding the ferry terminal wasn't where I wanted to be I made my way out to Makara (?) wind farm. Very nice ride out there :ride:
Some of the road

http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/pp201/ztaj/North%20Isl%202013/DSCN1613_zps4a20fd62.gif

Got the Tag :woohoo:

http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/pp201/ztaj/North%20Isl%202013/DSCN1620_zps7d6c5531.gif

Then... time to head North, sticking with the theme started earlier in the day  I thought about placing the tag up here, to keep the wind farm theme going, Some of the worst gravel I've had the displeasure to ride on to get there though. Just above Palmerston North

http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/pp201/ztaj/North%20Isl%202013/DSCN1623_zps3dfad21a.gif

A local

http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/pp201/ztaj/North%20Isl%202013/DSCN1626_zpsd638a7f0.gif

Then I just wobbled my way to Tiniroto for the night. The pub was full of dirty feral bikers though  BUt it's o.k. They were friendly and after introductions they offered me a tent and mattress. Good on ya's, Nic, She Wolf, and a heap more who's names I can't rember just now. After a couple of  and a feed, I teed up some better accommodation at a fine establishment just up the road (cheap too  )
Here it is, Tiniroto Community Hall

http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/pp201/ztaj/North%20Isl%202013/DSCN1642_zpsb62c5b52.gif

http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/pp201/ztaj/North%20Isl%202013/DSCN1646_zps3d6e1729.gif

Woohoo..undercover parking.

I'll add some more later as it's too nicer day to be sitting inside typing on a keyboard

Day 2....
Seeing as how I had no fixed agenda how could I refuse an offer to explore some back roads with some other like minded people :ride:
This is what you see when sitting at the pub enjoying some amber liquid

http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/pp201/ztaj/North%20Isl%202013/DSCN1647_zpsb6c5307a.gif

Some others had gone off exploring already, Keeeen as this bunch
Anyhooo we left the roadies behind and started the day with Parikanapa rd, a luverly little back road just up the road from Tiniroto

http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/pp201/ztaj/North%20Isl%202013/DSCN1655_zps45e50445.gif

http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/pp201/ztaj/North%20Isl%202013/DSCN1666_zps75637eaa.gif

And just to show that I was there

http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/pp201/ztaj/North%20Isl%202013/DSCN1672_zpsa7359709.gif

Then we took in some more back roads through Pehiri and Tahunga and through a little place called RERE !!, there was a water fall there  :psst: :msn-wink:

http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/pp201/ztaj/North%20Isl%202013/DSCN1689_zps43bb87e4.gif

Ending up at Matawai for refreshments and to join up with the roadies. After lunch.... (mmmmmm lunch :woohoo: ) those of us on appropriate steeds headed off to have a look at the Motu rd
Some stayed on the seal  wonder why ?

http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/pp201/ztaj/North%20Isl%202013/DSCN1696_zps3f558c0d.gif

We had a look at the Motu falls, guided by a new fullah on a DRZ400, sorry, but I'm struggling a bit with names, so from here on we'll refer to him as Hey You !
There was a bridge

http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/pp201/ztaj/North%20Isl%202013/DSCN1702_zps9f296d06.gif

That's He Wolf with the camo pants, for want of a better term, OI :Oi: Cant you read the sign ? You shouldn't be there ! :msn-wink:
Anyway.... back to the Motu, this is a little bit of it.

http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/pp201/ztaj/North%20Isl%202013/DSCN1718_zps2387a03e.gif

After a bit more riding we reached the turn off to the Otipi rd. Decision made to go and have a look at it, woohoo :woohoo: this was going to be the highlight of the trip and I was fair fizzing, couldn't wait to get into it :wings: (you get the picture ? )
Anyway.... I haven't lost my touch, and before getting very far Hey You's ! little Suzi decided it didn't want to go anymore :shit: A note to all.... when ever I am around some piece of machinery will break down, you have been warned
Seeing as how it was my fault I towed the broken thing back to a farm house

After givving my new friend a ride out to Opotiki where there was a small debrief and alternative transport was sorted for the bikeless comrade we went our seperate ways, the others to god knows where and me to a handy pub with secure parking.
I had a wee look around Opotiki

Anyhoooo

Things have changed a bit with this thread and it no longer seems right to be posting my trip reports here. So I have asked a mod to close the thread.

I may start another one in due course, as I have some other little bits to share.

FWIW The rest of the North Island was good, got to Cape Reinga and the Hokianga, and actually did East cape on the way home, very nice too. I used a few State highways, some secondary roads and some gravel roads, and got lost a couple of times

Thanks for reading/commenting
