Other half's sister flew down for work a few days ago and she was working in the cbd. Got a text yesterday from her so we all relieved to hear she ok.

If anyone is coming up from chch and needs accomodiation let me know, got a spare room and air bed, couple of couches etc. Our doors are open.

Hopefully they will find time to distribute some this time ... they still had 10 mil from the last appeal that had not been distributed.

One interesting thing about the quake was the way the road rules have changed.

There are pretty much no traffic laws anymore, since all the cops are busy. People running round on dirtbikes, driving over grassed areas in the middle of town.

It's like mad max or some shit.

That part of things is actually kind of fun if you're on a bike :woohoo:

How well the Emergency services are working

attention seekers who have used this to justify their sad lives

Communications , the old phones still the best ,,,,

After Watching the News and reading the paper, it is apparent that the scale of the Disaster is such that Emergency Services not only in Christchurch, but from all over NZ as well as from Australia, Japan and many other Countries are needed in Christchurch. Even up here in Northland, the bigger of the two Rescue Helicopters as gone to the add of Christchurch.
What you might ask does this mean for me? It means no matter where you are in NZ right now (and most likely for at least a week) there will be less Specialist Emergency & Rescue Staff available. So Therefore the least (and easiest way) we all can help those in Christchurch is by trying to be careful out there and at home OK.

That was my evening, cleaning up and sticking a bit of iron over the hole. Still a metric shitload of silt to shovel out of the garage (as i found once I finished demolishing the front so I could open the door), that can wait until later.

More importantly, this is a one bedroom flat with lounge that has just become vacant, if anyone is in desperate need of somewhere to sleep PM me

There are a few cracks in the bricks, but seems sound and has power, water and sewer working.

We and all family here are fine. Bro in law was downtown and had a number of narrow misses then spent hours helping in Cashel Mall, that was real rough.

Spent today digging liquifacton sand from daughter and son in law's drive and untrashing house (St Albans). There is a huge amount of liquifaction this time. We in Hornby are undamaged.

Experienced riding though an aftershock - quite weavy (like a flat tyre) at 60kph but under control - it was the 5.5 and must have been shaking at right angles to the bike direction (Memorial Ave). So not a big deal.

Have you been past Hampton Honda - been thinking about that good crew?

I think you will find they had minimal damage Dave, I went past them this afternoon , there appeared to be no damage from what I could see from the road.
The Hornby area has suffered far less than the rest of ChCh, one of the few areas that didnt lose power, and still has running water. Traveling from Hornby into central is like entering a war zone, the closer you get to the inner city, sumner or Brightopn, the worse it gets. Television does not really show the real extent of what has happened
Like the last quake the damage has no pattern, you can drive many streets seeing devistaion to one house and its neighbour is unscathed from appearances.
The roads around AMI stadium are a mess, yet 100 meters down the road they are undamaged.
I was sitting at a mates place earlier today having an ale, had to help drink the fridge dry befor it got warm , no power, when there was a aftershock, the house across the street just fell to bits! It looked OK when I first arrived.
No wonder people are leaving town....

Thanks - their shed was built to withstand the mini quake that occurs when the freight trains rumble by within a few feet of the side wall. Last one they had a few bikes fall over.

Your post sounds like a lot of wank from Auckland (or wherever it is your from),for people like my old lady who ive bought down here as she simply cant stay in her own home anymore it gave her a bit of "chin up" as have his "speeches" today. Many it seems to her can do nothing but offer doom n gloom re this whole tragedy and the future of Christchurch. If you have nothing positive to say simply shut up, your close to sounding like a whinging pom.

Damage is from Lyttlton to the CBD and say 1k past... then it kinda just stops, Misters quote you will find is from the sept section of the thread.

Another christchurch chimney bites the dust :bye: At the time in linwood I was on an exvater between a fence and building... so much noise I never noticed nor heard a compleat chimney land on the fence next to me, that was a shot of reality.

Of to scrap a church of the road this morning, hopfully no bods under it... yesterday morn on Stanmore Rd dug out 2 bodys and put them in a car, nowere else to put them.
Seems most deaths are just out side the CBD, Manchester st has a few still in a bus, sumner etc, but as the CBD is dug out the numbers will rise.

This time round it's frightened people enough to make them run...

But a friend north of Kaikoura tells me there's no fuel available now between ChCh and Blenheim - and Blenheim will run out very soon....

At this point the oil companies can't say when supplies will be replenished.

Darfield appears fine - full of refugees yesterday. Out west and rural all is good with power and water.

Its apparent that this is an A grade disaster.... Talking to my family and their neighbours last night it appears that everyone in chch will be connected to death and serious harm.

The whole country will feel this for decades.

I heard about this in the morning while getting ready to go to a trackday (it was in Florida - just in case you are wondering how we could be riding in winter). It is very saddening. I was just there visiting in August..... can't believe the CBD looks like without the Cathedral.

Well wishes from across the pond.... or is it a ditch? :)

Edit -> This was taken in August just before the All Blacks fed beef to the Aussies...... and yes those fellas walking past were (I believe) the Australian Rugby team. Such a beautiful building....

Hopefully in a good way.... I mean I know it looks like a disaster now, but it was my favorite city in NZ when I visited it in August. So, one really needs to hope they either rebuild it, or build something in its place that is even more remarkable. I must mention, that I'm not even a religious person, but that structure added a lot of character to the city.

Maybe if you haven't just been through one of the most terrifying times of your life. Maybe if your city isn't damaged significantly. Maybe if you still have access to clean water, working toilets, and power. Maybe if you didn't have to wait for hours to hear from loved ones. Maybe if someone you loved or just even knew hadn't been killed.

And maybe if you're just a wanker yourself. Tosser.

Agreed. I personally think our Prime Minister is speaking very well, with good and important points coming across. He is dealing with a country in crisis and doing very well. Weather you are a fan of him or not is irrelevant - the Prime Minister of our country is leading us through this, accepting help from all the right places, and focusing on the right issues first. Thumbs up from me.

We are opening our home to anyone that wants to get away for a few days. Tourism Auckland are co-ordinating. Ring 0800 AUCKLAND if you want to have somewhere to stay. I am told civil defense will pay for taxi chits for travel from airport to detination up here if they have to. Flights are cheap, and I am happy to feed you while you are here. Buy YO Booze.

Please let people know, we have heaps of space and really do want to help if we can.

I'm still alive - only just got power back. Sadly my bike is in town across the road from the CTV building. I was at the gym and my bike parked outside when the quake struck. I was also clinging to a machine with a massive concrete beam directly above me that was twisting like rubber and bits of concrete falling on me. After the shaking stopped we just got the fuck out and I didn't even think of going into the changing room to get my keys.

Got outside and I picked up my bike, then tried to get back in to get my keys but wasn't allowed to. We were evacuated to Latimer Square and I planned on going back to get it, hotwire it and ride home but the area had been sealed off. I've tried a couple of times to get in but been turned away. I'm trying again tomorrow but haven't got a lot of hope as it's real close to the Grand Chancellor. I'll try heading in on my pushbike and if I can get to it I'll leave my pushbike behind and ride out. Wish me luck.

If it's fucked it will be a bastard, but my family are all safe and bugger all damage to my house.

John Key does have a bit of a look of a possum in the headlights but that is to be expected given the vicissitudes of his job in these very difficult circumstances. His funny eye doesn't help.
There really is no need to go into a swivet over his performance though as it is to be expected that he would be there; even though he does come across as a bit of a third wheel with others performing so well.
The man who has impressed me the most is Bob Parker.
He has been fantastic. Speaking with intelligence and clarity.
Caring and compassion flowing from his soul.
Bloody well done. :niceone:

Hey everyone!

I'm very thankful for all the kind messages of support I have had from fellow KB members in the days after this terrible tragedy. I thought people would be busting out the champagne at the mere thought about the possibility of my untimely demise.

I came out of the quake unscathed, but I don't have power at my place so I haven't been able to use a computer until now, at my mates place.

If anyone needs any help with anything, fixing up the house, water, or anything like that then don't hesitate to contact me and I'll do what I can to help.

Remember if theer is a lack of posts from locals its due to lack of power and or way to busy.

The areas I have been are under more mud and water than you can emagine, roading is 4x4 usage due to some massive holes and cracks, people are dealing with it well.

The areas I have been are under more mud and water than you can emagine, roading is 4x4 usage due to some massive holes and cracks, people are dealing with it well.

Thanks for the heads-up D. - nice that so far all the Canterbury Rabble seem to have come through OK.

Is there any outstanding ones? have we missed anybody?

Maybe if you haven't just been through one of the most terrifying times of your life.Well yes I was in Los Angels in 1987 when they had a magnetude 6.1 earthquake in a high rise hotel that was swinging. but fortunatly there was no real major damage still 6 people lost their lives.
Maybe if your city isn't damaged significantly. Maybe if you still have access to clean water, working toilets, and power. Maybe if you didn't have to wait for hours to hear from loved ones. Maybe if someone you loved or just even knew hadn't been killed. No fortunatly I have not had to go through that experience. I sincerly hope that you have not lost any loved ones or close freinds.

And maybe if you're just a wanker yourself. Tosser.I wont respond to this in kind as I realise that you will be under incredible stress and anguish at the moment and will probably still have more to come but like I said I hope sincerly that you have not lost any family, freinds, pets or have any major property damage. You have my best wishes for the weeks ahead.

Well we are all right, better off than the poor old bugger down the road from work.(RIP)

Managed to walk/run stumble get knocked to the ground crawl stumble to fall flat again, back on all fours crawl like a mad man to the work shop door with steel falling behind me to be knocked down flat again at the door way.

We have a 64 ton press that weighs about 6-9 tons moved 240mm.

All three of our bikes got knocked over.
Garage door and Dog run door got opened in the shake and the girl wolfy crashed through the glass back door, to her safe place, our bed. (she is ok only got a small cut) and the boy stayed in the back yard. (lucky us)

A lot of roof tiles got shaken out of place so great big holes in the roof.
Had to get up there and do a quick fix as it was going to rain. YES I know it was not the safes thing to do.
Missed one batch of loose tiles so still had a leak.

Like everyone else any thing that could get knocked over or fall over did.
Cracks every where as larth and plaster does not like EQ's.

Went to Westport yesterday to do some shopping and drop off the mother in law.
As she as had enough and can not take it any more.
Food like bread is hard to get over there as it comes from here.
And on the lighter side, their pays have not come though as it gets processed in CHCH.

Anyway after a few of the shakes while typing this.
And now lost water supply again, but still have power.
Maybe a Crowded House in Westport would have been a better idea.

Anyway chin up we are OK and like all of us, WE WILL get though this again.
So stay safe and look after each other.

Who would like to be in Christchurch? Not me.
Not so much a case of "liking" to be in CHCH but I do feel the need to be there to help out my UNINJURED 88y/o Mum is now a 'quake refugee in Timaru.
I guess when the time is right I'll make the trip.

Cut'n'paste from another forum...

My Mum was very lucky, she'd been outside with the bloke who comes to help her in the garden & decided it was time to take a break so she went inside to sit down in her comfortable chair. Being seated at the time almost certainly saved her from what could've been serious injury I've heard of many oldies who were felled by the 'quake & suffered broken pelvis & similar injuries. She's been evacuated to Timaru & is at a nephews place I'm in regular contact with people back home but as phone power and much of the infrastructure being out it's a slow process. Obviously the rescue/recovery operation is the most pressing issue, it's still a rescue operation but hopes are fading each day. Regarding Mum's house it's too early to tell what will become of it the next door neighbour is an engineer who's had a look at it & thinks it may be repairable, it's still a guess. We really won't know until it has been properly asessed there could well be hidden damage, if it's repairable it will being "months & months" before she can return. For many it's a waiting game to see what happens resouces over there are stretched to the limit (& beyond). I still don't know about the casualty list & I'm dreading that one. I know a friend of a friend's brother is amongst the missing so the motorcycling community is affected. This friends son is an apprentice mechanic at the local H-D dealership & was test riding a Buell at the time it happened, his first thought was that the the back axle had broken...I'm not much of atypist so I'm about plunked out...if a picture is worth 1,000 words here's another 50,000...some very touching & poignant images here. The photo of the abandoned fuel tanker is on a road that is part of our motorcycle heaven, it sure is GREAT riding country there, or was until this recent installation of speed bumps.

Well as I reported in the 'Roll Call' thread, I was lucky. I left the CTV building at 12.31 having seen my doctor. Down to 'The Pharmacy' to fill the prescription and then was on the footpath outside Latimer Lodge when it hit. After it was over I walked toward the dust cloud at the top of Latimer Square and saw the CTV building down. I still can't describe my feelings over seeing that. Been wondering if my doctor got out but found out today he didn't. Bugger. I really wanted him to survive because his face keeps coming to me when I think about the victims.

We and our three guests (displaced family members) had a pretty rough few days at home but got water back on on Friday and power yesterday and the house is fairly straight so we are a whole lot better off than many. Sewage is a bit suspect but seems to be working and is preferable to the dunnys I dug behind the garage.

My bike, which I unusually did not take that day as I had a training to attend in town, had a wee lie down in the garage but was saved by a small decorative table my daughter had made in woodwork 10 or so years ago. The table was upside down on a carton beside the bike and the legs made a perfect cradle for the bike as it lay down. Suffered just a few scuffs and a wee scrape on the fairing. Apart from that ... nil damage. With my own escape, my bike's escape and with all of my family and workmates being uninjured I was just a lucky lucky boy. I'm sure I've now used all my luck so I hope there isn't another big event.

Cheers mate. Family all good, despite MrsB and myself working central.
More damage to the old home - greater separation inside and out, new suspect looking tears in walls and a lot more horizontal cracks through the block work. Section has moved more too. I wonder how much is left in the faithful old building - it was never designed to be constantly stressed like this.
The bike is OK this time - my ritual of placing a brick front & rear of the rear wheel, a bungie around the side stand and headers (to stop it flicking up if it rocks) and two straps on the bars to the rafters paid off! It still moved sideways and back about 250 mm

Ironically I had Arrow around last week doing a full report for AMI - the guy popped in on Wednesday to check on us!!!!!! Now that's service. He said he'll have to come back and redo it all as it is a lot worse. Somehow I think the decision has been made for them .....

Looks like we are the generation that will be building a new city.
Out for fathers came here when it was a swamp, no roads, no power, no shelter, they saw it as their future for their children, a better future full of promise.
They lives with out luxury for years to give us what we have today, lets not disrespect them by becoming a bunch of bleating whimps ,
I believe, that putting aside the sadness of the human loss, we are at the beginning of a new chapter for our city, one that we can all be a part of.
As a one eyed cantabrian there is only one choice, rebuild and go forward. We can do it.

Yep - good point - 10 - 15 years I reckon in the CBD - bowl the lot and push over the old shitters. Bring it back as something really different and impressive.

Maybe encase the cathedral in resin as a tourist feature depicting the past and build a brand new sparkly one.

Maybe we'd better build it all on stilts - I think the city overall has slumped so much that this winter is going to be trouble - we'll be back in the swamps.

You'll be fine, just don't let the Auckland RWC architects near the place, and build what you need when you need it, rather than trying to make some "bold artistic statement that represents the spirit of canterbury for now and into the future"

Some walls and a roof that looks kinda cantab, does the biz and is resistant to falling down will all be good.

I had to be out and about today: circumnavigated the Dead Center*: to get to cnr Bealey Avenue and Victoria Street from Somerfield I had to go through Richmond. You know how people say "its like a warzone"? Well, it is. There are Army guys on every corner, police from NZ, Australia, and on a fine day, that blowing silt is awful. There are broken water and sewers aplenty, and what I could see of the CBD is beyond fucked.

I was pleased to see the Railway Station tower (which someone had told me had "fallen down" was intact and looked straight. Saw a Japanese TV newscrew (with Sat phones and their own uplink (!) broadcasting from outside Knox church. That looks like its been hit with RPG rounds, seriously. And the buildings across from that (Saggio Di Vino and the wee hairdressers (which were being repaired) are what I would describe as completely fucked.

St Martins New World is closed and there is a broken sewer main at the corner of Wilsons and Gamblins Roads. Barrington New World is open. Countdown Church Corner is open.

The best way round for me has been the scooter. unbelievably mobile, and much easier to ride round town than the Scrambler: cheaper to run, too.

We're trying to help our clients, and we do have access to our email server (power is on to the building!) but at this point, our bank branch is closed and I am going to go try do a deal at another branch to do a transaction on our trust account. That will be fun.

how the hell we will pay the wages this week I have no idea. We have the money, but no access to it at this stage.

*the Dead Centers was th interior of the tower in KW Jeter's book "Farewell Horizontal" which I like a lot. And the description is apt on a few levels at present.

Yeah, I dropped my partner off at the civil defense HQ this morning for her shift and ended up chatting to a mate who works for TVNZ. He told me that the media have been asked to downplay the extent of the damage and even the number of potential fatalities. Apparently the area inside the one way network is at least 80% totalled.

And it looks like my bike is fine and has been pushed into an alleyway out of the way of emergency vehicles, so all is good.

I've heard that elsewhere too, but didn't know really to believe it or not. Sounds like it might be closer to fact than we all realise.

Heard from my sister today, she had been up to my uncles place on the hill. Initial reports were that it was fucked, but it appears to be salvageable. However my uncle isn't is such good shape, he was at the corner of St Asaph and Colombo (I believe) when it happened, and straight after he heard screams from around the corner. He went around to find one of the flattened buses, and helped rescue a woman with a broken leg. Unfortunately to get to her he had to remove dead bodies first. He's a hard man my uncle, ex MAF officer, patrolled our borders and got into all sorts of mischief here and in places like Singapore, has survived two helicopter crashes hunting down south, but my sister said he was like a different man.

There will be so many people with horrific first hand accounts. I consider myself lucky that I didn't have to see any of it. My brother was within the cordon on the first night helping with the rescue, he ordered one of his team to remove some sheets of iron, only to discover 3 bodies underneath. Like your daughter, my uncle, and 99% of the other people involved, they are not prepared for what they have seen, they are not trained in how to deal with it.

Now I don't have a view either way but that was the most ignorant biased performance by a TV interviewer I have ever seen!

That Campbell really is a jumped up annoying little prick!

He was just looking for some sensation and notoriety for himself, that sort of behaviour certainly isn't need especially considering the current situation in Christchurch!

Bloody idiot! (IMHO)

I normally really like John Campbell, but he did a bloody awful job of that interview. Personally I put people like Ken Ring in the same basket as tarot card readers and astrologers, but there were better ways to handle the interview.

Shit - I though it was Paul Holmes back again - that was his technique - badger and talk over the person he was interviewing if he did not like the response he was getting.

A very poor job indeed.

A lot of people in town are talking about the moon-man and somehow I think John C just gave him more followers. One positive think I got from the MM was he believes after April the rumbles will return to 'normal' ..... after another big one ( f a r k ). Bloody Moon Man.

you do know what "Science" is, right? and that the scientific method is the cleverest thing we as a species have ever invented? and that what the criminal Ring is peddling is not "science" but scientific sounding bullshit?

What I want you to do is, whenever you see or hear the criminal Ring speaking, replace what he says with an equivalent length passage of particularly inane technobabble from Star Trek: Voyager, or a later series of Star Trek: The Next Generation. It makes just as much sense as what the criminal Ring says.

To whit: "There will be an earthquake in Christchurch of magnitude 7.0 on March 20 2011 because the portside warp nacelle dilithium crystal chamber shielding is experiencing temporal drift due to a phase imbalance in its flux couplers, which is interacting with the biogenic shielding. We can't damp down that phase imbalance which will result in a colossal release of energy on March 20"

What the hell? In the immortal words of Jules Winnfield "Then allow me to retort"

Your BTW (from which I think I am supposed to infer somehow that because what the criminal Ring says is "anti science" or "against the mainstream view": correct?) actually proves my point about the validity of the scientific method. Hypothesis is the earth is flat, carried on the backs of four elephants, who stand atop a giant turtle, swimming through the ether. Astronomy (not to mention simple logic: like what does the turtle eat, elephant shit? what do the elephants eat?) demonstrates firstly that the earth is spherical, THEN that it rotates about the sun. See where I am going with that? As the hypothesis is tested, the conclusions are proved, or disproved, another hypothesis is developed, then proved, or not, and knowlege proceeds. Sometimes there are reversals, sometimes it is incorrect: but the validity of the method is that the errors are recognised (sometimes eventually, even grudgingly) then corrected, then the process rolls along.

Let me just address a point I know you will make in rebuttal: "Oh, but its just a THEORY, right, and better theories come along" Yes: if the word theory is used in the same sense in both parts of that sentence: In fact the same argument is raised by creationists and "intelligent" (yes, they're sneer quotes) design proponents. "Oh, its a THEORY of evolution, and a theory of intelligent design, and they both have the same validity. Well, no: because one is a true scientific theory, the product of the winnowing process that is the actual scientific method, and the other requires you take certain assumptions, and believe in them, just because you have to. That is a castle built on sand. and having seen what happens when you build on sand, i.e. liquefaction, I'll take the science any day.

By the way, the reference to "better theories" above? We have them: Seismology, Geology, Geomorphology, physics, mathematics. And their proponents (their "Druids" if you will) not only outnumber the criminal Ring, they also say you cannot predict with the certainty he is about the event he is predicting.

I have no idea what sort of science is taught in Muslim nations. Or indeed what a "Muslim nation" might be: Saudi Arabia? Libya? Irrelevant for present discussion I suggest. Define your terms, state your argument, then we shall proceed.

As for Ring personally: the fact he is a "pagan" a "Druid" or whatever is, I suggest, more proof of my proposition than yours.

It was a terrible piece of work. If Campbell is that stressed over Chch he should bugger off for a vacation. Sounded like some weirdo preacher forcing his beliefs onto someone else. Ken Ring went up in my opinion since he didn't cower yet kept putting his view across, which is the point of an interview I believe.

Whether or not you agree or accept Ring's theory, I do not believe now is the correct time for him to promote his Science, John Campbell has also added to the confusion and in some cases undermining of the populations confidence with his interview style.

I actually believe the 30second bite, saturation media coverage is adding to general feelings of despair and hopelessness many will be feeling in New Zealand. Our TV newsmakers fail miserably in their role of mass education sensationalism seems their sole motivation.

On Saturday I had to work and in doing so listened to National radio - Kim Hill, she conducted a series of in depth interviews with people who are recognised as specialists in the fields around the activities in ChCh, her interviewing remained precise on topic and extremely educational, I for one felt after her show that I had a much greater understanding of what is going on at present and with interviews with people who have been involved with both recovery of the peoples as well as cities around the world can see that in time ChCh will possibly have a future many NZ'ers will be envious of. This in a small way was demonstrated with Napier's recovery and the place Napier holds in NZ's hearths and economy. The lose of life is horrific, the psychological effects on ChCh's people will last along time, but from this will hopefully in time come a new direction which will excite and unite her survivors.

The only thing the MM has in his favour, in my eyes and not that I don't believe he could be right, is that the tides, ya know, that liquidy stuff that cover 7/10ths of the planets surface, you may have noticed it and call it water that moves to and from the beach, are heavily influenced, if not fully influenced by the moon. Oddly enough, a scientific fact... they even have Almanacs that predict future tides :shit:...

That alone gives credence to his theories and with the recent "sun man" getting one over the meteorologists with his long range forecasts (sub derived ), it kinda stands to reason that some, if not most of our weather is controlled planetary bodies...

Interesting reading last night about how the moon does create a "land tide" also, but that the magnitude and frequency of earthquakes seems to have no statistically significant relation to the position of the moon

The moon creates "land tides".
Earthquakes happen when enough stress builds on a fault for it to move with a bump.
I can see how the stats wouldn't line up but the moon could still be a big factor in quakes. Suggestion would be that there isn't enough stress on the fault during the next 20 phases of the moon but this incrementally builds with plate techronics to the point where the next phase is enough to cause it to let go. How large it is depends on the amount of stress that was built up and the location etc.

The thing is scientists spend all their time trying to come up with new ways to explain and predict shit, and they tend to leave no stone unturned, so they will have spent a gazillion man hours exploring those theories and ended up discounting them. If a scientist could publish a paper supporting a hypothesis that the moon influenced/caused earthquakes, and was therefore able to predict them with any degree of certainty he'd be lined up for a Nobel prize and be cited in everything, and that shit really spins their wheels.

I don't think Ken Ring has discovered something that everyone else has missed.

I seriously think you should start promoting this 'Plastic Jesus' theory - announce it as a religion and start to build followers (I'd like to be high on the pyramid - I mean management, if you'll have me). Obviously the followers will be expected to make (tax free) donations to the church and the leaders may spend such dollars as they see fit.
Why not some Plastic Jesus T-shirts to wear too so we can be easily identified when we march in mass to protest about things that are important to the Church of PJ - hell the women folks can wear their PJ's to church as a sign of respect to the Plastic Jesus.
It goes without saying that The Church of The Plastic Jesus will be pro motorcycling and import their own tyres and sell these to the followers at significantly reduced rates. Synthetic oil would be available too as PJ is keen on anything that comes in a plastic container.
You'll have to sort out the church's stand on sex - I'd recommend plenty of it, heck attractive members could even bring in photos to 'offer' to Plastic Jesus on the day of worship (can't be Sunday as that is a riding day!).

The church will require a number of lodges (we'll call them mission houses) that the congregation can retreat to if PJ starts to wobble too much.

There are obviously numerous thinks I have not thought of but I feel the important church matters have been covered:

Income
Motorcycling
Sex
Safety

Now, wheres some sand for my head

here we go again.

OK: it is undisputed that the most influential body in our solar system is the sun. and that due to the well known theory of gravity. (Newton's laws, and Einstein's theory of relativity to be more specific) (edit: you do believe in gravity dont you? howzabout testing that hypothesis in the accepted manner by jumping out a window? over 5 storeys please.)

and of course Earth and its moon, (Luna) are part of that system. And yes, no one is disputing that the earth moon gravitational system causes and influences events on the earth. Tides are the obvious example. People (often of the female pursuasion) who become insane for a week or so every month, that sort of thing.

Ring's "science" (yep: sneer quotes.... you may infer that I do not respect the criminal ring as a scientist from my use of same) seems to be "Well, duh, the moon causes tides in the sea, I therefore infer that it causes the same effects in the earth's crust, causing earthquakes. Not only do i infer that, but due to my having passed form 3 maths with Mr Smith in 1968, I can calculate EXACTLY where those stresses will be released, accurately enough to predict the next earthquake".

Is that a fair summary? My dripping sarcasm aside, I intend that to be a fair, one paragraph summary, of the criminal ring's position. If it is not, please advise.

Assuming it is, then demonstrably the criminal ring has abjectly failed. Not only does he fail to predict earthquakes, he demonstrably failed to predict the Feb 22 earthquake.

Don't just take my word for it: look here:

http://sciblogs.co.nz/the-atavism/2011/02/28/the-very-error-of-the-moon-man/

and here:

Now, for a really good basic introduction to the planetary system, how the moon was formed, and some other interesting science (proper science that is) have a look at this:

I saw the TV show which was on TVNZ 7: it was truly excellent.

I dont expect you will, by the way. And here's why: Your position is cemented in you have "Faith" presumably: bizarrely, the demonstration of rings criminal scaremongering will only serve to buttress your belief in it. Hopefully someone reading this will enjoy the linkage.

One more thing: If you have cancer (assuming you find out about it before its gone too far).... using, you know, science and doctors and all that. What do you do? Do you get the criminal ring or one of his cohorts to treat you with crystals and bits of weed and rainbows, while praying for a miracle to mother Gaia, or do you go to the doctor, and get it treated?

On a personal note, any faith I had in invisible friends (of any denomination) was destroyed by watching my mother die of cancer. The only thing we as a species have is what we do, and what we create, and the pinnacle of that achievement is the scientific method.

And I'm done playing.

Sex
Safety

Maybe safety should become before sex?

The only thing the MM has in his favour, in my eyes and not that I don't believe he could be right, is that the tides, ya know, that liquidy stuff that cover 7/10ths of the planets surface, you may have noticed it and call it water that moves to and from the beach, are heavily influenced, if not fully influenced by the moon. You mean that stuff that makes up 0.04% of the Earth's mass? Gonna take a much much bigger pull than that to move the crust. You keep crapping on about it, but the fact is, it's mass is 5/8s of fuck all compared to the tectonic plates.

Hey guys, I just wanted to say that although things look like they are going to be pretty tough go for the next while, you are not forgotten! People like myself from far away places are starting to make some donations, now that NZ has set up an easy way to do this. I know my amount is fairly small, but hopefully every little bit will help. BTW, from over here, it looks like your government is doing a pretty good job.

As far as donating, you might want to suggest this avenue if an overseas friend or relative wants to help out. I had no idea what charities are valid, so I figured your own government's website should be a good place. It seemed very easy to do.

Thanks mate, you'd be surprised how much it means to know that people care and want to help. I'm OK and have power, phone, food and minimal damage to my house, but my cornerstone client no longer has premises which means my income has just halved. Oh yeah, heard on the radio today that considering the verbaration, depth etc of the quake that in fact its realistic ricter scal reading was equale to a wopping 9.1

There are 2 scales used in New Zealand for measuring earthquakes. The Richter scale is purely objective in that it is a measure of the amount of energy released during the rupture. In this way it is the best way to categorise earthquakes from a geological PoV. Its downfall is that it tells us nothing about the effect on the surface. A 8.0 quake 100 km deep may have only minor effects on the surface, whereas a 5.0 quake close to the surface may be devasting.

The other scale is the Modified Mercalli (MM) scale. This one is measures eathquakes by the effect they have and is not able to be measured, only assessed. On the MM scale last weeks quake was around a 9.

MM 9

Structures
Many Buildings Type I destroyed. Buildings Type II heavily damaged, some collapse. Buildings Type III damaged, some with partial collapse. Structures Type IV damaged in some cases, some with flexible frames seriously damaged. Damage or permanent distortion to some Structures Type V. Houses not secured to foundations shifted off. Brick veneers fall and expose frames.

Environment
Cracking of ground conspicuous. Landsliding general on steep slopes. Liquefaction effects intensified and more widespread, with large lateral spreading and flow sliding adjacent to streams, canals, lakes, etc.

The MM scale is a hell of a lot more relevant for the poor bastards crawling around on the surface, whereas the Richter is really only of interest to geologists.

'Church of the Plastis Jesus'. Loving it!

Your church has a traditional hymn already written - Paul Newman even sung it in Cool Hand Luke (your first saint)...

Well, I don't care if it rains or freezes,
Long as I have my plastic Jesus
Riding on the dashboard of my car
Through all trials and tribulations,
We will travel every nation,
With my plastic Jesus I'll go far.

{Refrain}
Plastic Jesus, plastic Jesus
Riding on the dashboard of my car
Through all trials and tribulations,
We will travel every nation,
With my plastic Jesus I'll go far.

I don't care if it rains or freezes
As long as I've got my Plastic Jesus
Glued to the dashboard of my car,
You can buy Him phosphorescent
Glows in the dark, He's Pink and Pleasant,
Take Him with you when you're travelling far

{Refrain}

I don't care if it's dark or scary
Long as I have magnetic Mary
Ridin' on the dashboard of my car
I feel I'm protected amply
I've got the whole damn Holy Family
Riding on the dashboard of my car

{Refrain}

You can buy a Sweet Madonna
Dressed in rhinestones sitting on a
Pedestal of abalone shell
Goin' ninety, I'm not wary
'Cause I've got my Virgin Mary
Guaranteeing I won't go to Hell

{Refrain}

I don't care if it bumps or jostles
Long as I got the Twelve Apostles
Bolted to the dashboard of my car
Don't I have a pious mess
Such a crowd of holiness
Strung across the dashboard of my car

{Refrain}

No, I don't care if it rains or freezes
Long as I have my plastic Jesus
Riding on the dashboard of my car
But I think he'll have to go
His magnet ruins my radio
And if we have a wreck he'll leave a scar

{Refrain}

Riding through the thoroughfare
With his nose up in the air
A wreck may be ahead, but he don't mind
Trouble coming, he don't see
He just keeps his eyes on me
And any other thing that lies behind

Plastic Jesus, Plastic Jesus
Riding on the dashboard of my car
Though the sun shines on his back
Makes him peel, chip, and crack
A little patching keeps him up to par

When pedestrians try to cross
I let them know who's boss
I never blow my horn or give them warning
I ride all over town
Trying to run them down
And it's seldom that they live to see the morning

Plastic Jesus, Plastic Jesus
Riding on the dashboard of my car
His halo fits just right
And I use it as a sight
And they'll scatter or they'll splatter near and far

When I'm in a traffic jam
He don't care if I say Damn
I can let all sorts of curses roll
Plastic Jesus doesn't hear
For he has a plastic ear
The man who invented plastic saved my soul

Plastic Jesus, Plastic Jesus
Riding on the dashboard of my car
Once his robe was snowy white
Now it isn't quite so bright
Stained by the smoke of my cigar

God made Christ a Holy Jew
God made Him a Christian too
Paradoxes populate my car
Joseph beams with a feigned elan
From the shaggy dash of my furlined van
Famous cuckold in the master plan

Naughty Mary, smug and smiling
Jesus dainty and beguiling
Knee-deep in the piling of my van
His message clear by night or day
My phosphorescent plastic Gay
Simpering from the dashboard of my van

When I'm goin' fornicatin
I got my ceramic Satan
Sinnin' on the dashboard of my Winnebago Motor Home
The women know I'm on the level
Thanks to the wild-eyed stoneware devil
Ridin' on the dashboard of my Winnebago Motor Home
Sneerin' from the dashboard of my Winnebago Motor Home
Leering from the dashboard of my van

If I weave around at night
And the police think I'm tight
They'll never find my bottle, though they ask
Plastic Jesus shelters me
For His head comes off, you see
He's hollow, and I use Him for a flask

Plastic Jesus, plastic Jesus
Riding on the dashboard of my car
Ride with me and have a dram
Of the blood of the Lamb
Plastic Jesus is a holy bar

He agrees that the info that the media is just to keep the spirit of the people of Christchurch alive. In reality around 90% of the CBD is in ruins. Not 60%. correct, the media has been told to play it down, I find it odd that TV shows the same repeated photos etc when I have seen far worse in the near by suberbs.

I think it is being handled well - the last thing I want is a media frenzy to find the best worst images of the mayhem in the CBD. I don't want to see it again yet that's for sure.

On the other hand there will not be any comprehension of the damage by those unaffected until there is a full media tour.

In situations such as Christchurch is experiencing at the moment ... "RIGHTS" are few and far between.

Get over yourself ... and welcome to the real world ...

And if you think the "authorities" have always been honest with "facts" in the past ... :killingme

Indeed but, talking to my old mum yesterday who i will add like many older folk in Christchurch swears she hasnt had a decent nights sleep since September and i asked her if she had given any thought to moving she replied "i would rather live here in Canterbury even with this mess than up North,we can clean this mess up, up there the mess is beyond cleaning up"."That aside" she said "there Rugby teams are rubbish".Have to love her attitude.

Oddly, since the 22 Feb shake I have slept really well and cannot figure out why. May be some sort of fatigue but I don't feel fatigued.
