I had fun! Great day out, wonderful company as usual, great to meet new faces too!

Millie enjoyed playing at the back of the pack, at times she got quite exhurberant to be fair :innocent: As far as not seeing things goes, it is all about taking a wide angle view of what is ahead of you instead of worrying about what is under your noce so to speak.

Fantastic effort by those really new riders, you all did extremely well indeedy. Looking forward to the next one.

On each of the rides there have been riders turn up that have not been riding very long at all...be it four months or a week or, on our 2nd ride....''I got the bike last weekend and rode it home''...eh Brendon?...
Bike sizes and types....we've had them all.
The whole experience so far has been real positive and long may it continue.

Shut up! So I am directionally challenged  To be honest I thought we were at the top of the North Western Motorway :o I am not familiar with that part of the world.

I looked in awe and wonder at the little red car on that roundabout that was tootling melodiously on her hooter of doom while she very nearly turned me into tarmac :gob: Since when is it ok to change lanes mid roundabout? Her not me, and she had the fucken hide to tootle meeeeeeeeeee

Talk about detours, you guys get the prize for attendance today. Whangarei is a bit of a pootle to the start point. No idea what time you turned out of the scratcher to get here, I was barely out of the shower when you arrived here!

Yeah, i love my gladius, she's fantastic and a good jump from the Scorpio, which was my learner bike of choice as well.

I would definitely recommend getting used to a bit of open road speed (nothing stupid mind you...) on the Scorpio before you upgrade though  They will likely test you for your restricted at a speed over the 70km hour...

Once you pop that cherry life will never be the same again  Look at it this way, on the motorway all the traffic is heading in the same direction, so nothing oncoming to be concerned about. Just watch your following distance and check for non signalling car drivers ALL the time, you will be sweet. We do sometimes have Souf experienced riders come along, but sadly not this time. I firmly believe that you are at more risk in ordinary traffic than on the motorway.

See you there!

When emergency braking squeeze the front brake don't grab it. Let the presure build smoothly, the weight must be on the front wheel before max presure is on. Regards Richard

WOW!!!! What a day. Best riding weather ever.

Had a new experience on the Northwestern just West of Pt Chev, could feel a slight shimmer in my handlebars that got worse and worse. So left the motorway to check it out. the front tire had started delaminating. returned to Westgate for a coffee where I noticed splitting in the tread where the tire was coming apart.:shit::shit::shit:

Heather suggested Cycletreads would be open, so off we crept along the new motorway to the Shore. The guys at Cycletreads were absolutely great.:Punk:

They changed the tire just before they closed, said if it was the rear there wouldn't have been time as the mechanic was on his way out the door to pick his kids up. Service beyond the call of duty I reckon.

Heather followed me to make sure I didn't come to grief, but all was well, thanks Heather. We returned to Westgate for that coffee $270.00 poorer but $270.00 safer. You cant put a dollar value on safety can you.

By the way, the tire was a shinko :no:with plenty of tread on it.

All in all though a bloody fantastic day, see you all next time for the coast to coast.
Rick.

Scarey tyre delamination. How old was it?

...Might make it a 10am leave time from Muriwai when we do it.

rickstv
27th August 2011, 20:18
Scary thing about this is that the tire was a warranty replacement for a Shinko that did exactly the same thing about six months ago.

I could have taken it back and got another free replacement, but why would I want another one delaminating in six months. I'd rather bin it and not have to worry about it. The rear is coming up for replacement soon, so it won't be replaced with another Shinko The Shinkos were on the bike when I bought it.

Nigel.......er I mean Rick

Eleven weeks away but I want to get it out there because it will mean taking a Friday off work
(for those that work:eek:)

Friday ride to Cable bay = 300kms
Saturday ride to the cape = 260 return (a beer at Houhora, the northern most pub)
Sunday ride home = 300kms to Auckland central. (or 328kms via twin bridges road)

That is a bugger...bit of a loan sheep though and easy picking on the m/way.
Keeping the limit to 80 and using roads not frequented by the HP so much..they wont be bothered.
Bearing in mind that, when, and if we ever see a cop on the learner rides, the speed is normally under what they would consider...excessive.

It was indeed. And your welcome, I was going to bring a pigurine of some sort but my bank balance is rather depressing right now

Though I will have to remember to pledge my visor the night before, getting a little hard to see at times.

Massive turnout today....three bikes...
The CBR came all the way from Takanini.....and that is one mint paint job:rockon:

That CBR looks great!
I picked my bike up from the shop and was thinking what a nice sunny day it was, then 2 minutes from home, the heavens opened and I got drenched. :violin:

It has a gold fleck in the paint and its the first orange/black one of them I have seen, very nice ...

A service and the clutch and cables have been lubed and adjusted so it feels like a Japanese clutch now!!! Yay! So nice not to break your hand pulling the clutch in.

Much easier to talk things over in person and.
Probably just do a tiki over Woodcocks and end here at ours.

Are there gonna be more of these over the christmas and new year period/before the Taupo ride?

Short answer is no.
The last few rides were not supported enough for me to give up my time anymore.
Thats the reason I have started the ''Away Rides''...:niceone:
Cycletreads now do a leaners ride so that should be supported.
