A complete no pressure ride or those returning or learning or like a slower pace.
Over the last 5-6 years I have organised close to 20 group rides with a 100% success rate.
This is in no way a Mentor ride and we are not instructors.
We are however, mature and seasoned riders that know how to look after those that ride with us.
A group ride with us means that we ride as a group.
Possibly from start to finish ..150-ish K's...at times more.
I/we are looking for 10-12 newbies to ride as a group (or two groups depending on numbers) with 3-4 experienced riders.

NEXT RIDE SUNDAY ....16TH OCTOBER..... *Reserve Day Sunday*
10AM AT THE CALTEX ON SH17 DAIRY FLAT.

I understand the working hours within your industry are not to biker friendly.
A Sunday is the preferred day and the numbers we are looking for dont have to met but if we can get 10-12 then all good.
If theres enough interest in a few days then I will decide on a day and edit the first post.

Of course, I am a newbie to the max on Millie, and will TEC the ride for Maha.

Those big rides are one thing, open road group riding needs a different appraoch. Maha does some nice rides. The route he has planned will be wonderful! I hope we can get a few newbies along.

Exactly! I did an open road ride with the WIMA ladies and found it fun but a little difficult and I was obviously slower than the sports bikes but faster than the cruisers on the twisties. Heaps of fun but lots of new things to learn.

This is all about the likes of yourself.
The reason why I dont want 30-40 bikes along is because its just to much to take in for those who not been on a group ride before.
A small group of 10 or so a good size to get the feel of what its like to ride as a group.
No heros, speed to suit, three stops over about 150 Kms, very comfortable conditions.
Go away thinking wow that was pretty cool...hopefully.

Juss a tip if'n I may. When a mate and I ran a few years ago, we found about 4 bikes the limit for the rider assessing the learners.

We did a leader (me), then groups of 6, a leader, 4 learners (ideally grouped to the same level) then a tail assessing their riding, and then a TEC (my mate) behind all the groups.

The Singing Chef
6th April 2011, 06:37

Seriously though, on some group/ish rides, leaners are 'encouraged' to ride outside thier comfort zone.
I may just have to nominate a day and run with it.
If you are avaliable on the day?
That'll be four of us plus who ever turns up.
Might just be the first of a number of learner rides.

So either weekend day would suit?
4pm wont be a problem.
Looking at a 10-30 start and to be sitting down for a burger by 1pm-ish.
If it all goes well there will be other rides where we will look to take it further.

Yeah, ended up not doing more because of all the organisation, etc. 40+ bikes, people expected a normal ride, and I had to keep telling them to bugger off ahead, or stay behind. Then they'd carve through the middle, confuse the hell out of learners etc. Ended up busy on other things, but the learners got a lot out of it, which was the important thing.

Always happy to help, hopefully I'm free on the day. I'd suggest to nominate a day, give a bit of warning, so people that can plan for it do, etc. Continually asking for a day never works  Only thing is the weather is going to slowly turn against you...

Great ride out guys, apart from the bunch of small penised riders that could not stop themselves carving through our ride, placing not only some of our riders at risk, but with total disregard for their own safety! Bryn, you did really well, and kept a cool head in very trying circumstances. Well done, it wont be everyday you get over taken and undertaken at the same time going around a corner :pinch:

Uh huh, sorry what I should have asked was - if it isn't going to be a fair weather ride is it likely to be called off? Or are we going unless the weather is properly foul? Rain seems highly likely - wind strength could be interesting especially on the exposed parts of SH16 (If that is our route of course)

Shelly Beach is always a great destination on sunny day.
Started out with the sign of rain behind us and had a dry run to the start.
Rain started about 9.45 but I was under cover gasing up.
It had stopped buy the time we were ready to leave.
As you can see in the 5th pic (they didn't load in order) the weather was finning up nicely behind us, which is where it was coming from.
The forecourt was wet but roads were dry.
Two riders (not drivers ) had only had thier bikes for a week.
A good steady easy pace was stuck to ensuring that the group ride was infact, a group ride:yes:
For the next time, I will put together another route so that each time the ride is different.

It was a great ride out. Maha has several routes planned out for future rides, so no one will get bored too quickly. I was very impressed with the attitude of all the riders that turned out yesterday, no egos, and no worries for the ones that were truely newbies. It maybe best if a meet time of 9am @ Fanshaw st Caltex be agreed upon?

but if anyone else comes from town I would not mind joining - never crossed the bridge before, the mighty scary bridge.....!:shit::blink:

Same bike and position as me!

It'll me my first time going that far and Wizard indicated I could possibly meet up with him/her and then head along to Dairy Flat. I'm sure you are more than welcome to come too.

I'm not too far from Royal Oak.

Here's a map of how I was going to get there:

Coolies, you two can make your way to a meet point to attack the bridge. There are several of us happy to come down and escort you over the hump

yes, i like that, bright and early

just one wee questions, does this work for us L-Platers, after all we are restricted and so far I have not broken any laws and have not really been at any speeds....!?
I know a couple of nice side streets to get myself down town, and don't expect to much traffic on a Sunday morning, but for the ride per se, 70 km is not going to hold anyone up?

I started my riding with this ride about a month a go, and it was very easy going and some great teachers.

I have been over the bridge multiple times back and forth and I too am more than willing to come and help you all get over the hump. It is probably less distance to go for me as I am in Browns Bay. Let me know if you need a hand.

Looking forward to the ride....:scooter::scooter::scooter:

Also does google have the right place for the caltex on SH17?

Im running in my new wee baby 150 still, so would be great to finnish running it in whilst going for a 'proper' ride with others. Its run in enough to sit on 100 now too, no problemo. :)

Now, is that departing Dairy Flat at 10.00am, or be there at 10? My girls netball finnishes on the shore at 9.30, so im going to be cutting it extremely fine to be there by 10.00.00000

No mate, its about 3 or 4 km further North, along the main road. Look for the Dairy Flat Highway - Kahikatea Road intersection. Think its the next intersection as you keep going north on the main road...cant miss it. Looks like Google is playing up...

I keep the speed at a comfortable speed for everybody.
There will be enough experienced riders to ensure everyone has a blast.
These rides are designed for new/learner rider.
A few of us dont mind keeping the speed down and the group together for a few hours every 3-4 weeks.
I will talk more on the hows/whys tomorrow.

got informed by Steelphoeneix today that the ride is tomorrow!!!!
i have poor reading skills, thinking it was on sunday.

so now i have a dilemma, ....
i was going to the shops tomorrow to buy the last of my gear ...pants and be warm and dry on sunday, but the ride is tomorrow. got all the other things, but I am on a budget, and could not just buy all the goodies in one lot.:violin:

I not sure I would last for the ride just in jeans, and surely it would not be Katman approved either , so after spending the last two hours procrastinating I guess I will not come along.... :bye:, as i fear i would fall of the bike due to cold and wet. And I was so looking forward to have someone hold my hand whilst (while?) crossing the bridge for the first time on my own. Oh well I guess I just go shopping then..... and sign up for the next ride - with the full gear.

Otherwise just head to the Mangawhai pub i believe thats where they will end up.

The cold and wet are farrrr less likely to cause an accident, than crossing the harbour bridge on a bike whilst holding someones hand.

21 bikes counted for todays ride.
Split the group into two and the first bunch had about 6-7 minutes head start.
Mom and MadDuck took the first group out while Myself/Gremlin and Toaster were with the second group.
Dry roads the whole way, no rain and about two hour spent at Mangawhai in the sun over lunch and a drink or two...(yum fizzy:woohoo:)
Grant and Carmel came down from up Norf...nice to meet you guys and thanks for turning up.
An absolute buzz of a day really.
So cool so see so many lights in my mirrors and the other road users were pretty cool about the 80 kph speed limit that was kept.
