Another kb rally done and dusted, home safely after a nice cruisy ride home down the coast with lots of stopping and faffing around.

Had an unscheduled stop just south of seddon the same as friday's effort, a nice man on a triumph triple stopped and between us we made it go again, appears a loose plug on the ecu was the problem.

Passed a biker down on the bridge at kekerengu :(, hopefully nothing serious for whoever was involved.

Anyway, time for a quiet beer and some unpacking, will see if there are any pics worth posting on the camera later.

OK, some disjointed rambling..

Well, 2197km later we're finally back at Chez Scumdog after the last leg from Tekapo in brilliany sunshine, no wind and bugger all traffic!

Great to catch up with all the 'old faces' and to meet some new ones - and Genie was just as I imagined her to be!

The ride to Takaka was my first time over the hill on a bike and in fact my first time over the hill since 1963...

The bikes went well by C.B had an off on the road/rail bridge south of Greymouth (where we spent Sunday night)

The day started off wet-as and at the bridge CB somehow ended up in the right-hand lane, she later said she never meant to be there but at the time I thought "Hmm, unusual choice" as I followed her in the centre lane and then about 2/3rds of the way across her bike drifeted to the left a bit and I thought "Shee-it girl, watch where you are"!

'Nek minnit' the bikes wheels were on the railway lines and as we all know, wet steel + wet rubber is a .

So I then see the bike fish-tail a bit then the arse went out to the left and then CB is being biffed down the road with the little Sporty skating along on its side behind her.

Railway workers nearby helped pick the bike up and I checked CB was OK - she was, a tad bruised, ripped water-proofs and nerves shattered.

Sporty had smashed indicator, broken gear-shift, handle-bars twiste, clutch lever bent and scratched up, mirror bent and broken, speed scarred-up and the housing bent, front of mubguard scrped etc etc - all on the left side.

So in the pissing rain I unbolted the smashed mirror, undid and straightened the bars, cable-tied the front indicator in place (hanging down though!), checked the really smashed rear one worked - which surprisingly it did despite just swinging on the wires.

And told CB to get back on and head over Arthurs as we had planned (later she said her heart sunk when I said that - she did NOT want to get back on a bikel)

And off we went -slowly for quite bit, especially as CB was struggling to cope with no knob on the end of the shift lever.

But we got to Tekapo but that's another story...

Let me tell you in the pissing rain and coming up to a rail/road bridge that has boards up the side walls so you cannot see what is on the bridge so having to go right left to see then trying:facepalm: to get the middle of the tracks from the left side, ending up on the right side :violin: so then thinking that is okay until I look up and see I have to cross both rails to get off, the bike somehow:shit: moving on to the rail,:no::no:, bike skidding, front wheel weaving:shit::shit::shit:, I don't want to be here:bash:, and I admit to shutting my eyes at one part of it but looking down the tarseal at the broken shards of mirror, standing up and thinking :angry::bye::shit::facepalm::no: etc, guys running down the road and scummy asking if I am all right:confused:, me worried the bike is pissing fuel (out of the orverflow apparently!) and lying on its side across the road with vehicles both sides.
I don't want to be here! OMG, what have I done!:stupid:, thinking that I cannot ride scummies bike to the end, being handed various bits of broken blinkers and mirror, walking to the end of the bridge.
WTF, scummy says "at least it starts", having to ride across the rails (yes we are still on the wrong side of the rails!), a broken gear shifter that chews through my boots when I try to change gear, or needs several strikes of the boot to try and shift it up, blinker light hanging off the side (some kind person has strapped it on to handle bars), and my confidence is in my boots, I think I need an "L" plate and someone to show me how this works/stops.
Took me ages to get into 3rd or 4th gear, and it was still pissing down!!:brick:

Well I am home now and I MAY ride again, BUT I will not be going near any wet railway lines for a very long time!
Bumps and bruises, torn wet weather gear, P'd off and angry with myself.
I soooo enjoyed my ride to Takaka and the trip up to and from the KB get together!
I should NOT forget that!:woohoo::drinkup::laugh::corn:

Now ya see C, theres no need to hate them, cos if you do you will always have issues on them. They are no harder to ride on than any other situation. I cross into the center at the startride up and turn as hard as possable et the end under a bit of power, dont slow and dont brake.

Now of course ya going to bloody well ride again and theres no reason on earth why you should be angry with ya self... it DOES happen to the best of us, thats all of us.

I have to agree. You know the story about falling off a horse.

As far as your riding ability, I thought I would have no trouble keeping up with the sporty, but I had to work hard. First time I have had a powerslide on dry seal. I think a lot of us learnt a few things over the weekend.

I learnt that Takaka hill is great fun and the people that drive over it are courteous and get out of the way promptly. It made a nice change to riding over to Akaroa and having to piss about around the corners because some muppet wont get out of the way.

Had a great weekend, nice to meet new faces and catch up with old ones.

Genie you organized one hell of a rally, you should be proud.

Well I am home now and I MAY ride again, BUT I will not be going near any wet railway lines for a very long time!
Bumps and bruises, torn wet weather gear, P'd off and angry with myself.
I soooo enjoyed my ride to Takaka and the trip up to and from the KB get together!
I should NOT forget that!:woohoo::drinkup::laugh::corn:

The TWO road/rail bridges in the area (the other is just north of Hokitika) have caught a few bikers over the years (some even in the DRY) ... the Greymouth one the most, due to sheer traffic volume more than any other reason. So you are not the first, nor the last ... (if it's any consolation) Well done for getting back on. If you hadn't ... you may not have ever again.

The trick to crossing THOSE bridges is (as both bridges exit off, is the OPPOSITE side to ENTRY) cross the lines PRIOR to the bridge, thus you are set up for exit with no lines to cross.

The usual actual cause of the off's at these bridges is, both front AND rear tyres hit the rails at the SAME time. One tyre sliding can be handled (sometimes) ... but TWO ... in the wet ... at a slow speed ... when its not expected ... Difficult ... at best.

As others have said ... I (we ALL) are glad you are ok ... and you did well to do (FINISH) the trip. And WEST COAST rain is not to be taken lightly ... Arthurs in the wet can get "bad"...

The girl has some interesting bruise patterns now...

And the bike ain't so flash looking now it's washed.
But thanks for all the supportive comment - normajeane is off at work (12-hour night shift..) so isn't here to say that herself.

Anyway, I think the problem started when normajeane couldn't see clear to the far end of the bridge as we waited to cross - and while moving to where she could see to the end of the bridge she unintentionally crossed the right-hand railway track as mentioned.

And rather than hold up things while she manouevred back to the centre of the bridge she decided to cross on the right 'lane'.

As the bridge had been clad in plywood screening while the worked on it the impression was the right lane was real narrow with the cladding appearing like it was just beside normajeanes right elbow.

This caused her to gradually veer left without realising it while she was checking out the far end of the bridge for her exit.

And as we all know she and the bike slid down the road...

So as mentioned I patched up things a bit and she managed to use the mangled gear lever with a lot of difficulty and a lot of damage to the inside of her left boot due to the jagged edge on the lever stub.

But we stopped at High Country Motorcycles near Fairlie and as luck would have it the nice dude there had a good shift-lever so ten minutes later we were away smiling and on to Tekapo for a soak in the hot pools.

Next day was an awsome hot calm sunny day for the whole trip home, a nice finish to our trip.

So now shopping for indicators, a mirror, a paint touch up on the front guard - all easy stuff.

Tougher is getting the ding in the petrol tank fixed and sorting out the damaged speedo housing and mounting.

But all-in-all we had a blast at Lee Valley (glad we're not there now!) and the ride to and from there plus 'socialising' with all you fine people.

Awesome five days of riding!!
Sad to hear of CB's wee tumble but glad she's home safe and sound now. I took a couple of extra days to get home as had another event to take part in on the Monday.
Blargh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! West Coast rain is not nice and I'm just glad I got to ride the Buller in both directions before I got to do it again on the Monday in the pi^*(&^ing rain!!!

Riding home through Arthur's yesterday was as magic as it was when we headed over last Friday.
That Takaka hill is magic but hardwork!! Awesome to get as far as the road would take us along Farewell spit!! Magic view and lovely wee piece of road.
Past a few milestones on the weekend.
Made it BACK to camp this year and past the full year milestone and seeing as I have clocked up 11,000k's since I bought the new bike in April I think its safe to say getting back on the steel horse was the best thing to do.

So Normjeane you will when the time it right.

Great to have a new norfie visit us :wings: hey Shafty!!

Now we need the pics please so I can set to and sort the badges out. I spent the day working today but will try and get mine up soon for folks to see. So we can start deciding.

what a cool 5 days away no kids no work :Punk:

left here about 930ish Alexandra 1100, then off to Nelson via Hasst up to Reefton, no wind rain & the sun was out not much traffic what could be better I was thinking, then just north of Okarito another set of hills etc  look in mirror yep mrs S there kick down.... got to the top pulled over & :wait: for mrs S to catch up 5min then 7 cars & a truck  whats happened me thinks.... head back down, then car flashers lights, bugga me says.... very quick trip back to find :Police: parked on wrong side of road & mrs S leaning on her bike both off the road only to find out her top box had fallen off & mr P C Plod was offering to take her top box back to Greymouth later that day (top bloke) but we straped it to the stead & carried on our way stopping at Greymouth for tea then Reefton for the night at my cousin's, not a bad days ride 717ks

we left after breakie at the pub then the Buller same as yesterday I'd wait along the way for mrs S to catch up, & as it was still early we carried on to the site to find about 30 kids there so we help them let down their tubes, then found the downstairs room  eat ya heart out :bleh: dumped out gear in there then went into Richmond to get food etc & wind kids up in the market much to the mothers disgust :innocent: I tellya  then back to camp KB to find a few there & already :drinknsin after the hellos etc... I meet Genie  (looks different with clothes on) then I meet that norfie :thud: what did he call himself  oh yeah Shafty (probably coz he rides a honda) & we know about honda riders (some even have their own bitch's on the back)

Wow, the wet stuff is still falling, loads of it. The district sure is taking a hammering, roads closed all over, huge slips, flooding....so pleased you were all here last weekend. Timed that one quite brilliantly.

I too am saddened to read of NormaJeans slippery slide, the utter helplessness as the bike slides from under you, I too would have closed my eyes with the thought, let this be over soon and be as pain free as possible. A bike is only metal and can be replaced, you my dear, cannot be. I'm glad you're body was not broken and i'm thinking your confidence is only dented, a ride on a nice sunny day will have your smile back on and with such a wonderful man to hold your hand through life you can overcome anything.

I'm finding it quite funny reading posts on here as I have no idea who is who. I do know who the bed stealers are and a couple of others, but I find myself quite puzzled as to who is whom. That would be my blondeness.

Please, let us not mention the fact I was seen in only a towel.....hang my head a little over that one. I blame bourbon, it always seems to undo me. Never liked drunk woman much, should have left me in bed.

I have many happy memories from a fantastic weekend

For all those who missed out this year, book your leave now, second weekend in December, 2012. Not sure where it will be but guess what? I shall be going, I'll leave the bourbon at home.

might aswell, its most likely all its any good for... a lid has only a life span (even if not used) of 5-10yrs. What brand is it? depending on if its a compersit or plastic mould will depend if its ok.
Fiber crazes when its done the job, so if you see a staring affect and or wee chips off or loose ITS FUCKED, if it is a old plastic job it will have a split seam on it which splits, either way if you hit your head claim on acc and get a new one as afte all it is ya life relying on iy being good.

I cannot remember how old normajeanes helmet is but it's a HJC.

And the crash 'damage' is white paint and surface scraping from sliding along the painted ply-wood cladding on the side of the bridge.
No starring, chips or looseness, I looked at the inside and it looks OK - but I bet CB (I mean normajeane!) actually wants a flash helmet like mine!

Give thanks that the accident only resulted in minimal damage,
The homage being the purchase of a brand spanking new helmet to protect the love of your life.

 now thats a nice back end

(S+C) x (B+F) / (T-V)

Where
* S = overall shape (a ripe peach being just about right)
* C = circularity (rounder is better)
* B = bounciness (less wobble is preferred)
* F = firmness (too much push to that cushion loses points)
* T = skin texture (no cellulite, please)
Then calculate this:
* V = the ratio of one's hips to waist. Finally, do the math.

80 is the golden number

Been a while since any news has com forth re the badges
I am sure that more than I would be keen to know whats happening .
