So on the Saturday ride are we doing

a) the Bush Fairy Dairy icecream stop

b) the Cable Bay Dairy icecream stop

c) both?

And now for some really bad news for you all..........

I have a 50th party to attend in South Auckland at 4.30pm on Sunday 18th so it looks like I may well be riding at least some of the way south with you lot.

Not sure that I can cope with three days in a row.

I'm booked. John's booked. Leave is applied for now also :D

The partner here is fully aware I'm not going to be in that day but still hasn't completely signed off my holiday! I won't be happy if she starts asking people where I am!

I'm apparently bunking down with 'Blue Rider'. Irene didn't say which unit i'm in, or perhaps she did and I just didn't here! :D

Can't wait!!! Counting down the days!:scooter: Still need to buy me a comfy seat though - the standard on a hyosung GT250 is not all the comfy after 100kms!:facepalm:

Picking a fight with ze German? That should be interesting.... Just don't get between her and a shared meat platter - you'll lose a limb....

Anyway.... The reason I dropped by was to let ya'll know that I finally have my roster as of today. Unfortunately I am working all that weekend and just to make it worse its 12 hour nights. So I miss out, which I hate. Shit. Then again, if Maha is leading I can probably head north some time the following week and find you still u-turning in the middle of nowhere....

Have fun ya lucky bastards.

There are Gas Stations all over this ride but, we don't want to be stopping at every fuel place we come across....timming issues etc.

First Fuel stop after we leave Dairy Flat is Whangarei...150 kms.
Then a top up at Paihia if anyone wants more.
Let your group leader know that you need gas and get it done BEFORE the next ride leg starts. (IE: Straight after or before you have lunch)

Paihia to Coopers beach is 82kms.
*Those doing the Matauri Bay loop will need more fuel at Paihia

Basically, there is fuel at every stop (Not so much on the Saturday ride) which equates to about 80kms.
The Saturday ride is just over 200kms, fuel up at either Cable Bay or Taipa (were we turn inland) and you should be right for the day.
Kaitaia is the last fuel top up for those who feel they'll need it.

Sunday..back to the 80km scenario.

Meremere? Because you fancy 100km worth of motorway riding in each direction without any fun bits? Odd choice.... Or is there a Meremere hairdressing comp that you're a model for Mark? I finish work at 6am-ish so although I'm keen to catch up it's probably not a safe idea.

It can be ages between shifts, but over Dec/Jan last year I was nearly full time. It should pick up. Well, unless you crashed more than 5 times in a shift and waved your old fulla at passing motorists; then they might not want you back...

Oh my god, I'm so excited!! 5 sleeps left!!!! Btw - suggestions on whether I should use a rucksack or pack on the back seat, and leathers or dragging jeans? I'd probably prefer leathers but they're still quite new and getting my leg over the bike without a pack on the back is hard enough!! Don't imagine I'll be carrying a lot, so guess a backpack should suffice?

you wont need much, leathers to get them worn in, take the draggins just in case. pack on the bike, because you might find it hard to carry a back pack. even just a few kg's can get heavy after a while.

towels and bedding is provided at least I had the bed with the sheets and the towels last time, and of course I will this time.

also no-one will be prettier than newhere ...so we can save on luggage:devil2:

Gear... since you can't plan when you're departing ways with the bike, best to go for protection, especially being new to bikes. Luggage, as blue rider says, go with back seat. The weight of a backpack will make you tired more quickly and give you less opportunity to move around. It can also cut circulation to your arms, which is a bad thing. If using the backpack on the back seat, make sure you secure any stray straps as you do not want them getting cosy with your back wheel or chain etc.

Be sure to check your battery fluid level. Push starting for most of a weekend can significantly reduce dignity levels, especially with fairly new boots which catch my pack - hypothetically.

Moving south was a good...........ish idea?

Great idea - great work, great flat, very average smelly flatmate, lots of garage space, friendly chilled out town, and of course close to Huntly for coal, weed, and water bottles on special. Just makes it a bit of a difficult call whether to head all the way up north on Fri night after work. Or Sat morning. Once again work shifts changed and have Sat/Sun off and no spaces left for Hampton Downs. Oh, and I missed the cut-off for the ride as usual...

+1 from me too,
Turned right at Mungamuka yesterday, got to
Okaihau only to get stopped with a load of other bikers, it took a minute to explain to the cops that I wasn't with the gang members they'd pulled over and that surely a quick glance at the bikes could confirm that. There must have been 6 - 8 cop cars ( that I saw).
Thanks to the organisers, good day with good company and some nice bikes

We had a really great time of it yet again.
Friday was an absolute minty ride day, sunshine/warm and a reasonable ride pace from Whangarei.:scooter:
Paihia for lunch, Alfrescos, right on the water front and the food was delightful, good to catch up with George ‘the man in an apron’Formby who was KP for the day.:shifty:
Some elected to add on the Matauri Moo Cow Bay Loop while the rest of us headed straight for base camp at Coopers for a cold beer.:drinknsin
Saturday, the weather looked a bit grumpy first up, the known forecasters within the group all had conflicting times as to when the rain would set in. 1pm/4pm and 7pm…turns out, all were right!
So after a 20 min walk on the beach at 7am, got some hot/cold food in us and set out for Ahipara.
We had a dry ride all the way to KohuKohu where we stopped for lunch, and just as we geared up to leave at 1pm, it pissed down, didn’t let up until we got to the top of the Mangamukas.
Back onto the unsealed part of our trip for 7-8 kms, just to get an ice-crème…well worth the stop and dirty dirty bikes and very very wet..good times!!!
Hangi for tea and more drinks while the guitars came out…wow that Mike and his bro can sing!
Drank the rest of my rum (no point in taking that back home, only adds weight)
Today dawned another pearler weather wise, leaving just after 9am for Kerikeri where I swapped bikes with Ash and rode his Triumph Tiger to the twin bridges (60 kms)..a real highlight for me personally.
Awesome bike, and I can see myself one in the future. Thanks for that Ash.
Twin Bridges road was in great condition, fueld up at Maungatapere and headed for Waipu Pizza Barn. Met up with Gremlin…Toto/Helzie/Tim and Gravedigger + one other turned up a feed as well.
Then it was on down the coast (Cove Road) to Mangawhai and home.
Thanks to each and everyone of you who turned out and made for yet another great weekend away in the far north..
Back to the Cape next year!:corn:

841kms.

I have had such a cool time! As always the company on our rides is outstanding, and laughing is the order of the day most of the time. I certainly have laughed muchly, and at quite inappropriate times too I might add. There is absolutely nothing funny about feeling that first trickle of water enter your groin area, but that too tickled my funny bone for some reason

After an uneventful trip north on Friday, I managed to make a grand entrance at San Marino and dismount with style by not ensuring my sidestand was fully down :pinch: Big thank you to Maha and host Graeme for catching Millie before she hit the ground

The usual good mixer of a few wines, yummy food and great company made for a fun time Friday night  I managed to stay the distance :Punk:

Fabulous sleep, woke to the sound of wind and what sounded suspiciously like rain, but it wasn't, it just looked like it

All managed to exit the motel without problems, to embark on what was about to turn into quite an adventure for a few, and a source of some amusment for me, and good times all round. That salad at Kohukohu was HUGE and the trough sized bowl nestled really well in my lap as I could not manage to eat out of it on the table it was so big

That poxy rain starting just as I swung my leg over Millie was not a problem until it turned torrential just before we started on some of the finest corners on any road I have ever ridden :weep: Still, it was a great trip all the same. My only slip was just on the gravel on the way home, my front wheel decided to wash a bit, but not a problem. My organic rasberry sorbet was fucken divine  you lot can keep the ice cream. Imagine one of our own being related?

Back to San Marino for comparison of our dirty bikes and much laughter about the complete wetness of our gear. Fingers crossed for them to dry by morning eh guys.

I met a woman last night who also has stayed in a house on Waiheke that I stayed at in my teens. It was a bit of a communal living house, filled with much love and other stuff! Way cool to meet someone else that had experienced the amazing place that was

That rain was amazing! As was the hangi. I found beef  and promptly dropped it on the ground :gob: attempted to use the 3 second rule, but it does not work on concrete :puke: Fell asleep listening to the music being created :sunny:

Woke to clear blue skies this morning and was really looking forward to the ride home. I was not disappointed. The roads were fantastic, Millie was doing what she does best and I had a blast! Imagine finding the other L' Angels at Waipu? Now that really was cool!

Home now, A bit tired, but not as bad as I thought I might be. Had my last laugh of the trip just before I got to the house. No incidents for me at all this weekend and I get back to Warkworth and a young female decides to run a compulsory stop sign in the middle of town. Thought I was going to go for a row of shit cans actually, good brakes, good spidey sense, and the fact she kept on coming instead of stopping in the middle of the intersection meant we both got away with it

Thank you so much to everyone that came along this weekend. You guys are so cool and make these weekend aways so fantastic! Thank you so much.

PS: I really loved the hub caps mid lane on the Waipu-Mangawhai coast road  Using the look where you want to go (obviously NOT over the friggen hubcaps) lead my wheels into a line of really HUGE potholes :killingme

Well I am knackered!

Not enough sleep combined with too much caffine has me tired and headachey. That said, nothing I would have changed. The weather, while horrible yesterday made for a challenge of a ride. I've learnt a fair bit about my bike and about me on my bike. Until I can think a little straighter I can't really think of anything else.

Well over 1000km for me, back to Hamilton. Bed is sooooo comfy!

Awesome weekend, cheers everyone for everything. The helpful tuition got me riding a lot better, definitely not afraid of wet/gravel covered roads any more.

The water wasn't bad either, just wished I had swum further along the beach where the waves looked bigger.

Sooo... Can we do that again next weekend? :sunny:

BTW the bikes running perfectly now, I'll still clean out the fuel filter and see if that was clogged up.

Well I can only echo the others in voicing my thanks to all concerned for just an awesome weekend. Also to MarkW, your hints and tips and expertise with the local roads I thought was invaluable.

Some highlights for me? Well, doing the lovely Matauri Bay Loop, all those lovely corners and I manage to drive into a fence in the middle of a straight ... it wasn't all my fault though, the far cough big cow that I had just bounced off had a lot to do with it. Note to self, even slowing to about 30 k's is not enough when moocows are on the loose, they are so unpredictable and likely to change direction and charge you any second!

There's something special about riding in the rain, which is quite lucky as we were well blessed on Saturday. Some lovely back roads and even more unsealed back-back roads if we needed more! Barry the BMW came through just fine, an bit dirtier but nothing that didn't wash off.

So nice too see lots of familiar faces, and some awesome new faces, thanks everyone for the friendliness and companionship.

I'm ready for the next one ... when is the next one? Is it time yet? Is it? Huh? Huh?

I still haven't gotten around to cleaning my leathers or my bike. I went for a ride with a friend of mine and his response was "what the hell happened?!?". Did make me chuckle...

Thanks to everyone for the advice and support and the checking mirrors to make sure I've not been lost over the edge of a cliff somewhere haha. It definitely made me feel included and has increased my confidence a lot with riding.

Can't wait for the next one! Feel free to PM me if you're ever keen for a ride. I'm based on the North Shore but happy to travel. I'm also arranging a little ride to Raglan and Hamilton from Auckland on 2nd December if anyone's keen.

Gear is clean also, well the bottom half is...what a bastard they are to put back together once dry...all the padding/knee armour/water proof liner/winter liner came out...thought they were dry and started putting the crap back in when water fell out of the pockets!!!.... back out on the line they go for an hour.

Looking forward to seeing the group pic at the bridges...did anyone notice that random guy on the SV who managed to get into the pic?...
Reminded me of Matt last year at the lighthouse.

Cleaned my chain for the first time ever (since '98), until now I have been just adding chain lube. tsk tsk. But it was just looking too gritty after Saturday's efforts.
The chain splash guard thingy has screws just nicely concealed by the exhaust, quite a mission for one who is not mechanically minded. A centre stand would be REALLY helpful too.
Lots of kerosene and a loooong row of newspaper later, clean and shiny with no lasting damage to me or the bike.
I figured I should spin the chain dry (good enough excuse?), so popped out to Huia... etc.
