It's very common fault IN SPITE of having all that done.
If they're right in that more cranking power fixes it then you'd think a Lithium Ion flavour might sort it.

I read a while back about a boost unit that ups crank also.
Im not convinced about Lithium now. They tend to crank well but wont hold charge if sitting with small load for very long.
I would get as big as possible that fits in the gap if going that direction rather than like for like size swap.
I have the BMW on charger all the time with the lithium battery. Starts well but 7 days no charge and its no start. Also the charger only loads 13.4 volts instead of the bikes 13.7 load into the battery. Maybe a better quality charger would be good.
If I got the Aprilia I would put MT wheel on and hoon and track day it so long term charge isn't important.

3.5kg in mine. You would think they would have gone lithium. I got a free battery minder with the bike. That must be the warranty repair Italian style.

You're not supposed to leave lithium on a trickle charge, nor run them dead flat, as both things shorten their life expectancy. Sounds like it has a lot off key-off draw which is always going to cause problems if you leave it connected. You can use a storage mode charger (cuntiercorrecttechnicalterm plug) for lithium which keeps em at around 60% charge for longest life in those situations, but then you probably have to charge it up again before you ride.

charging oximiser 900 and battery is a 18amp shorai.
Could be battery charger as the bike loads battery up to 13.7 but charger only 13.4volt. Draws 7.4 milli amp standing which flattens battery in 5-7 days to the point of no start.

Went and had a look today. Battery has about 4 attempts at starting bike for 10 secs then is under voltage and wont try again.
Starts ok if battery boosted with starter unit or the bike has already been running. Its got a fairly physically small gel battery(didn't look at amps).

I would expect up around 14v on a full charge, 13.7 is okay for the bike's output but any lower is only about 80%. If you can get access to a Shorai charger, put it on that and see how it goes.
It's possible that the Optimiser is programmed to maintain at 80% which would explain it.

Well, surely there's no joy to be had from riding something with a steering angle of 40something degrees and a silage pump for an engine?
I think you'll find that's a posing platform for a recently divorced 50yr old thinking he'd have a chance of impressing a Palmerston north teenager that he's like those dangerous bad boys on that TV show grandfathers of antiquity, or sons of dickheaditry or whatever.

I'm sure the owner of this bike has had at least as much, or possibly more joy from riding this bike as any grow man would get from "racing" a scruffy ageing commuter bike with slightly less horsepower than a decent curry fart.
I think you'll find they are pretend super bikes for nerdy weirdos that can't pull a chick, thinking he might impress a moto gp team boss that he can ride like Marc Marquez, but in reality is just riding around in slow circles because the truth is that he is scared of riding real bikes at real speeds, while posting about it all over the internet in threads that should be titled, "ESE's 1200 ways to make a commuter bike produce the same horsepower as your farts":bleh:

Great example. Ask around what happened when Choppa built a bike and took it to Kaitoke. Bucket fags were all well excited at the prospect of beating a superbike contender, can't think of any who did though.

I don't doubt it. I am average on a real bike, but I battle for last place on a bucket. Watching vids of fast guys on small bikes, it seems I move my weight too much and take powerful bike lines. Haven't been tempted to go find out if that knowledge would make any difference though. I'm happy to accept that I suck at riding pretend bikes.

I'd be mildly surprised if he ever rode that thing at all. The ad says it has never been registered and the only mileage it has done was travelling to shows - and that was probably on a trailer.
More than one motorcyclist of my acquaintance consider Harley riders as being more into posing than riding. I'm sure there are some such but that is too broad a brush, some Harley riders I know do a lot of miles. But whoever buys that thing would surely have posing as the priority, such people do exist.

People buy art for a lot more than 50k. The amount of money is only an issue if your lacking in it.
If building a bike gives him enjoyment and now he has lost interest and seeks a partial return then so be it.
Its not my kind of bike but if I was a multi millionaire with the warehouse size garage I might be tempted just to have a supercharged Harley. I would put a trailer on it though.

But it's figures like that which have turned me retro. I have two 90's 2t's in the shed, 230 and 250 trailies, learner legal, which are ball park the same weight but both have about 40hp. Not the handling or brakes mind you.

I think if its a track bike in mind good value. You would worry about the lack of care in its past but everything second hand carries risk. Less risk than taking your newish sports bike to an open day though.
My first experience on a track day was a new SP1 in 2001 when they were 29k to buy and after about 10 mins a Ducati went splat right in front of me under brakes (turn one Manfeild) and I just about run it over. Not going to take an expensive bike near the track again.

I've got $5 and a real nice pack of chips after you've tidied it up.
It's been waaaay too long since I last bought a bike. Getting edgy. I really should've bought Katman's TT350 but I had no transport lined up cos I thought it was going to go for a wee bit more.
I used half the money I found to buy the dirty bike earlier in the week listed on KB.
Maybe he still has it. It was only $1k and looked like a great deal.:msn-wink:
Somehow I managed to buy 3 bikes and a car this year. Still married though. Still 4.5 months left in the year.

Its funny how people assume Motorcycle owners are unable to find a shop that sells chips. I must say I haven't seen chips called Mossy before though.

Looks like it filled with petrol from the carb overflowing then was kicked over and cracked around the rings. Likely burnt its way around for a while.
When I got it had an overflow bottle and outlet rigged out past the number plate via hoses and when you put your thumb on the hose the breather was creating enough pressure to inflate a car tyre.

I'd say it's more likely flogged out the top lands from being run at or near redline for extended periods.
Petrol will not burn a piston away like that.

I have a receipt from 2011 that indicates petrol in the oil. Its got a new battery in it so I think it may be very historic damage and had rego on hold for a long time. You could be correct but its a gearless transfer trans so would need to be ridden at 120kph + to reach max revs. I don't think they have the hp to do that.

Makes me wonder how many bikes I have owned that have suffered from premature stationary positioning.
A mate of mine owned a rg400f which he traded and later he heard the frame came apart on the next owner which killed the rider. He owned for over a year and had no idea it was carrying a hidden crack near the steering head.

I liked mine. I did the cam chain removal mod and lemans cam shafts plus cross over pipes and airbox removal. The one listed in trademe has the airbox removed but still has the massive cat collector.
The long wheel base and low weight makes it great for sweeping bends but not so good on the very twisty roads.
I sold mine in 1999 to buya new rsv mille and wished I hadn't after a while.
Suicide side stand left it on its side once after someone reversed into it then drove away. Lifted it just enough for stand to come up.

Pretty sure the engine is actually more based on the ATC/TRX 250 than the CR250.

I think at some stage someone will offer 2.5k buy now and he will accept or it will bid 3-3.5k.
If I had 2.5k I would have already tried buying it pre-auction end. Saying that it might stay cheap but its not likely.
