I think the 2010 onwards have 70hp
Sounds like 54-70hp and some torque and handling could deliver enjoyment at lower than lose your licence speeds on a twisty road. Half the issue with big bikes is you can sit in second gear on a twisty road just opening and closing the throttle. Going up and down the gearbox to achieve the same thing can be rewarding for some riders. I would not mind a 690 for this reason.

70 hp is more like it. I wouldn't need the normal 120 odd hp from a inline 4 but I thought for such a big engine it was under powered.
Getting a nice smooth downshift while braking is fun. The ktm duke usually has ok suspension and brakes right?

I havent ridden one. Closest I have had to that kind of power would be a t100 trumpet a few years ago which was a blast to ride hard.
The 690 would surely handle like a dream I would expect.
There is another one on dollar reserve that finishes on Saturday I think. I dont like linking something that I think someone here might might be bidding on though so you might need look that up.

I get my full in November so no need to worry about me bidding on the auction. Despite being a single they're on the list of bikes to consider a at the end of the year.

According to my reading the suspension can be overwhelmed by either: A) super aggressive riding, or B) an excessively heavy rider.
The only guy I know who owned a Duke (his previous bike was a GSXR750) thought the handling was unbelievable. Of course this wouldn't show up on the Hutt Road, Rimutaka Hill, or other motorways.

Like any bike you purchase for it's intended purpose. And for that it's fucking cool.

Hardley's? Yeah I miss the point. And as ive said before; my middle name is harley.
Why would you want a motorcycle that inherently handles much worse than it could? My favorite grandfather blamed his old Indian for his bad back. He'd have been delighted by a CX500 for it's power and agile handling. Why go back to a dumb as fuck past?
Bearing in mind my resto bike is a 125 Suzuki Stinger.

I was looking for exactly that and looked at all sorts of options incl another Buell. But I ended up buying a Monster 1200. Fuck, what a bike! Fast, comfortable, easy to ride and handles. The modern Dukes are far better reliability wise than they used to be and they look great. I would rather have bought a big japanese thumping v twin but they don't make one in this style, but pretty happy with the big Monster. ( not a very big bike...)

Won't be my primary ride so it doesn't need to be terribly practical beyond needing to accommodate my generous proportions.

I've only ridden the S not the R. The VTR is portrayed as the dowdy Hondarised attempt. A mate had one until fairly recently. First time I rode it it felt like a barrel with wheels. Next maybe with tyres it felt 10x more alive.
I really think one would benefit from a weight loss program and suspension makeover. But it would need to be cheap else the logical questions about SP1 or RSV are raised.
Then again both those need sorting out the Fueling.
The S felt like it needed suspension sorting both ends. My understanding is the R is more of the same.
The TT1000s if its had the rotary damper removed, all day every day.
And the SP1 costing twice as much with likely 20 year old unserviced suspension is why it's not in the mix.
As for the Aprillia, fuck that.

Not looking for an IOM winner.
Just something fun. I don't ride fast enough for a fire breather, just something I can get set up to enjoy a bit of b road riding on. Without costing so much SWMBO doesn't question the wisdom of having a spare bike.

Must be a middle age crisis. So, after sitting on a few... Not without some ergonomic modification or reduction in leg length from knee to ankle!
Guess I'm back to to the drawing board or I need more money.

I'm not mechanic enough to say its not a coincidence but I've bought 3 bikes with long standing periods in their history.
All 3 did their stator within 10,000 kms. Less than 6 months into ownership.
