And, as has been the case since this ride first ran, I'm happy to support it in whatever way the organiser thinks best. Tail end Charlie, group leader, breakdown service, general stirrer, whatever. I've done/been them all!

Yes you have Mark, and it's been a real pleasure to have you along on the three previous rides. Year one was a total blast, a lot of newbies and a number that had never been a group ride. Year two was a bit wet on the Saturday but that only made the ice cream stop even more wanted. Last was mint weather, the ride split ( the beach ride) after the cape. The best part about the rides was, although it was group ride, we never really rode as a group and some would please themselves and peal off to do other routes. It all added to the experience.

It would fun to be able to join as attendees this time, if the ride this year falls on our ''four off days'' which we get every month.

I'm happy to organise a new ride next summer. I think it'll wait til octoberish? A good mix of decent weather, less road works?

Last years ride was amazing, the last 10isk KM to the cape was a great bit of road, no one on the road but us!

I support this product and/or service.

Let us know when your time of the month is....

Periodically  we take the last weekend of the month off, starting on a Thursday midday/Friday Saturday Sunday back too work midday Monday.
But, if I sell my bike I wont buy another for a while, and I say if.

So that means either labour weekend or 28th to 30th November this year. Best to avoid labour weekend so maybe November is a go?

But, if I sell my bike I wont buy another for a while, and I say if.
If you do sell it the new owner needs to come along on one of their other bikes and lend yours back to you for the weekend.

We tend to not use up well earned off time on public holidays, hence, we are going away four four days this coming week starting Thursday.

A ride this year would have been kind of doable, we are taking five days off from the second week in November. Just three things get in the way ..
1> I have no bike
2> The logistics of putting it together while working here would be vertically impossible.
3> When we have our days off, mixing with people is NOT on the list.

But, while in the laundry for hours on end washing/folding linen etc, ones mind tends to wander. Had a good catch up with Mark Waters yesterday (he is staying here at the moment) and that whole 'away ride' thing came back and the realisation of how good they were to do and been on is greatly missed. Fingers crossed, early next year it may all be on again, not the Cape though, more of a Central North Island thing. There is a lodge three doors up from our home in Mangakino and the roads around that area are perfect for bikes. The mind is ticking.

Probably have one (a bike) sooner rather than later. I have in mind a return trip to the Ohura State Prison then on down the Forgotten Highway.

Funny, yesterday I had just been over Mount Messenger and spotted the right turn to Ohura and thought, shall I go that way? I skipped it and stopped at Mokau. As it happens there had been a crash in Awakino Gorge and it was blocked. Since no cars were coming from Awakino I thought I would head back over Mount Messenger with empty roads. Isn't the prison up for sale (again)?

No traffic on Mount Messenger? what could be better, though I like heading up the south side more than the other way.
Prison for sale? yes $100k from memory, go ya halves?
Even if it sells they still may do the accommodation thing.

if you take that road & turn off at the mt Dampner sign it brings you out at Moki tunnel which is the south side of gravel road, watch for wandering stock though :shit:

you will still have to contend with @12km of Gravel but certainly better condition than SH43 side  I went through SH43 last month & it had recently been redone  Add a twist to your trip by turning off onto Junction Road once having gone past the pub ( @ 10km ) it follows the Waitara river & gives you options for Inglewood or Stratford otherwise you will meet up with SH3 :msn-wink:

To Inglewood? Is that via Tarata ? Last time I went that way there was some seriously deep large gravel for about 26 km that joined with SH43.

Then tend to pop up out of the wood work when the rides are posted. Our first ride, we had a lot of new riders (13) not so much on the third trip. Always look for around 24 riders which is a decent number for the motel and an easy number to cope with in a three group situation.

so you may or may not know someone who fits the criteria?

Will be a bit warmer than the Prison ride Mark, but temps don't worry you so much.

Cheers Grant, I now know what I have to do....aye?

Cheers Mark...sadly (just a wee bit though) we no longer own bikes. Our chosen lifestyle/business put paid to any bike riding. Sold our last bike two and a half years ago and don't regret it. We now own a Boat, so many beautiful Lakes around us (especially the one at Home) so we enjoy those now...and a bit of fishing but we suck at that, either that or the fish know that we have all the gear and no idea  We decided that we would much be out on a lake on our days off rather than gearing up and and tootling off somewhere, we need our relaxing down time on our days away from the Business. In saying all that, we absolutely loved our time on here from 05' - 2012. Our best memories were the parties and these rides. We have met a lot of friends through this site, we may not see some of them for a year or two, but they'll always remain firm friends and it's a blast when some call in for chat/coffee on their way past. I was looking through some of the photos from the L's Angels Rides yesterday and we remarked how much fun we had on them. I should start a website...Kiwiboater ;)... see ya next time dude.

Take care
Mark
