:This ride is Learner Friendly
:One Group will be for the more Spirited Riders
:Each Group Leader will control the group speed.
:Saturday... Ride to the Cape. There is the option of some time on 90 Mile Beach for those that want to that.

BYO Alcohol (no car run this time, drinks can also be picked up on Saturday on the way back from the Cape)

*Tenting is an option (cost pp is the same, use of toilet/shower in units)
: Those that want to tent, feel free, you will be meters from the sand/sea..

* Rooms are on a Twin/Triple/Quad/Quin share or more basis.
There is also room/beds above the office but Nari (Camp Mother) is very good at delegation on such matters.
Last year there were up to 5 blokes in one unit ....3 girls in another etc, worked well.

*The meaning of regroup.
...is to stop and regroup. Not take gear off and light up a smoke.

No egos or heroes, we just don't care.

**The > in the first post point to the significant websites.

I will only add names once a booking has been made at the San Marino.

Let me know when you have booked, the San Marino will/should also notify me.

*If you have been before and can remember the unit you were in last time, that would help when booking.

I think it's the Caltex Dairy Flat? I am sure an update will be incoming!

I still need to confirm I won't have the kids and that I can get the time off work. I also have to think about how the hell I am going to carry stuff on my new bike...

I want to do the optional Cape trip, but a bit over 100km each way from the closest petrol station I can find on the map (Awanui)? I'd be close to fumes when I got back...

And I might be in recovery mode anyway ;) I could always go for a solo trip to Kerikeri to see my Dad... (It'd be the polite thing to do).

I don't understand that?
We are all going to the Cape, the optional part is the beach run for those that want to do that on the way to the Cape on the Saturday.

Nevermind ignore me, I misread the below:

Saturday : Cape Reinga/Ninety Mile Beach For Those Who Want To.

And I didn't really understand that the bit Mark Waters posted (from the previous thread?) meant there was gas further North. I have still been getting my head around the Saturday outing, I thought it was rather different to that (as to the path it took). I must need more sleep. :zzzz:

A few years ago, Waitiki Landing Servo burned down, it has now been rebuilt which means, there is gas 20kms south of the Cape.
I edited the first post to cease any further confusion...night night

Woot! leave approved! Time to dig out the swimming trunks... and throw them away! Like I'm going in the water!

Now... how to carry the beer... Do we have refridgeration on hand? Otherwise it might be more of a whiskey event.

There is a Wholesalers at Cable Bay, two minutes up the road, no real point in hauling it up from home...

These rides are for learners/newer riders RD, in saying that, the ride is run in three groups of about 9 bikes. One group is for learners which is headed by myself. There are experienced riders throughout the groups.
All that I ask is that you ride at the open road speed limit. We had some real new riders last weekend and to be honest, they were exceptional to ride with.

Someone once about these rides ''But that adds to the fun and strange goings on that make this event somewhat unique.''

So I hear, though I have Pukenui marked as food stop, might have a think on lunch at Waitki Landing (110kms from Coopers Beach) if the place can handle around 25 people at one time.

I brave that route on my morning commute. If I leave Tuakau by 06:00 then it's pretty much a clear run unless there's an accident (even a minor one can cause a queue severl ks long). Leave at 07:00 and it's a matter of some major lane-splitting. Once or twice I've had to split all the way to the CBD.

We don't have the joy of random tree trunks and bushes on the side of the road. :(

Coffee/tea is a diruetic, not the best thing to be drinking while riding as it aids dehydration.

General rule of thumb is that you should need the toilet while riding, if not, you'll be dehydrated.

Could be more to it, toileting a lot is a symptom of diabetes. Yes get it checked, a simple blood test will prove either way. I had it done several years ago.

From the top ten symptoms lists :2. Increased Urination

Typically, diabetes suffers claim they had an overwhelming urge to urinate, which lead to a diabetes diagnoses. This increased urination will often result in severe dehydration.

I use to be the same, one time, heading to Napier I had to stop at the summit to take a piss, I was so desperate to go that, it took me the same time to piss as it did for the others there to have a smoke.

That was after a strong coffee or two at the Taupo Truck stop.

Could be more to it, toileting a lot is a symptom of diabetes. Yes get it checked, a simple blood test will prove either way. I had it done several years ago.

+1 to that. If you feel like you need to pee as badly / as often as you say you are, something isn't quite right IMO. I've had two sprogs and never have any trouble keeping my wees in  Maybe some pelvic floor exercises are in order, not everyone's made the same and I know you haven't had kids, but could possibly help. The only thing that makes me want to wee more frequently is energy drinks!

Coffee/tea is a diruetic, not the best thing to be drinking while riding as it aids dehydration.

General rule of thumb is that you should need the toilet while riding, if not, you'll be dehydrated.

Caffeine is a diuretic...but only in large doses. So yes if you have 6-7 cups of coffee (about 300 mg caffeine) in one go it will be a diuretic. Normal consumption of tea and coffee has a hydrating effect. Original myth seems to have originated with a 1928 US study, which seems to have stuck despite other studies showing that coffee/tea doesn't make you pee more than other drinks.

I find carbs have more effect on needing to pee as they are converted to sugar and water long after you've consumed them.

There's needing to go and then there's "oh god if I hit a bump I'm going to crash" needing to go.

No coffee, replace with poweraid if need to drink.

Buy a she-wee and a hose. Sorted.

Haha and just add a tube running down the side that looks like just another overflow pipe?? :p

Potty NOW :wait:

When all said and done, just keep it in mind that I do my best to make these rides as comfortable as possible for everyone. Regular stops (for what ever reason) do actually help, and there is nothing worse than having someone peel off the group without notice, it causes confusion. 2011 we had someone stop for a wee wee after 30 kms! this person did however, ride up alongside me and point downwards in an attempt to tell me what she was stopping for, I thought it was for fuel but no....straight to the public shitter at Awanui.

I wouldn't recommend taking anything to "sporty" on the beach and up Te Paki stream.
The narrow clip on style bars can be a cunt to man handle when hitting the areas where the stream cuts through the sand banks.
I've had sports bikes on Baylys Beach where I grew up and you gotta have a good idea of what you're doing on sand cause the bike wants to move around a lot.
That said, sand can make even the most gutless bike seem like a 200hp superbike. Wheel spin in third, etc

Still works really well and the bottles are perfect too.

I actually really enjoy making it. Really happy to provide!! And give me chance to make the methods better!

If anyones got a lemon tree...... 12 lemons per bottle. Got a deal going with my local Asian shop but bigger nicer ones would be nifty.

Hey everyone, Just letting everyone know that my Girlfriend Nadine is coming up for this trip in our car.
So if anybody needs to lug up a tent or any gear that they can't carry just send me a PM and you can drop it at mine before hand.

We can also take gas can's etc if anybody is concerned about running low but I doubt that would be an issue.

Cheers.

It will all work out in the wash Chris. I think in Nari's mind, those who have booked, have booked a bed, but some will take tents and that will free up a bed or two.
As long as everyone is satisfied with where they are sleeping when we get there then all good...

Also on the way back would there be any objection to heading off down woodcocks road and back down st hwy 16 after the stop at Warkworth?

Gorgeous! I am :Punk:

I am trying to find a pic that shows what the L's Angels group is all about, I will try harder tonight. For us it was always about the "learner friendly" aspect. Our first ride north we took 5? L plate riders, on scorpio's etc to the cape and back. A ride that they would not have done by themselves.

"Knuckles" (*snigger) aka Nathanwhite (doogle) will fill you in on how much riding experience he had when he first joined our rides. We have built a really tight unit of riders as the years have gone by, some drop out, some come and go, some newbies join in. It is a great recipe.

Give Nari and ring and face your fear, and NIKE yourself!

Hello. Health is fantabulous! I can finally say I am feeling back to my old self again. The wrist is doing well, out of plaster, and being weaned out of the soft support I have graduated to. It still gives me gyp at times, but apparently that is normal and it might take a year or so to be fully healed and settled. I can cope with that. So to answer your question. The name L's Angels was settled on after the first cape trip (Nov 2011) and before the following Taupo trip (Feb 2012) where some who were there got to me Tony Mills (ynot slow) for first time. He was dealing with his third lot of Cancer inside ten years and died a few moths later. Tony did however, get to the Cape with us in 2011.
L's Angels took on a whole new meaning following Tony's death.
We ask for and were given permission to use the KB logo (with added wings) for the L's Angels effort in the Cancer appeal. (Thank you Mr Spank)

These rides get well supported and have a core bunch of about 7-8 riders that have done all the rides so far. On average, I like about 24 bikes which makes for a easy group split of 8-9 bikes per group.
Each group rides as they see fit but it is up to the group leader to set the pace to ensure the smiles stay of the faces of those that follow. To have regular and trusted Leader/Tec combo makes this possible, and a unanimous thumbs up from those who come along makes it all worth the while.

This ride is on or around the same date every year. It would be perfect for you (living in Whangarei) and if you can free up the Friday and make it happen then all good. There is one other female from your town coming on the ride and we met at the Gull Servo by Bunnings about 11:30 on the Friday morning.

Midday'ish? We leave Cooper around 9am and stop at Kerikeri for a coffee and fuel, then head to Kaikohe and down Mangakahia Rd (stopping at the bridges) to Maungatapere. (170kms)

This is the only three day ride, the others are a Saturday/Sunday combo.

Depends of the strength. At least they'd have something to drown their sorrows if it doesn't work.

Thanks Steve, Irene can lead group 2, between you/Carmel and Irene I am sure you'll work it out at the front, take turns to break the ride.

Do swappers at lead with Irene in group 2, be good to have female leads for once.

Better get out and scrub my new tyres out to the edge then....don't want people seeing me with huge chicken strips :) Just replaced the Trailwings (aka deathwings) for Metzelers, the front feels strange, sort of sticky but slow turning, prolly just in my head.

I cleverly decided to use the web cam on this lap top to take a pic and post it here. Wifi is SSSLLLLOOOOOWWWW and I really need to be outside, but it is so bright I cant see the cursor. Huddled under umbrellas, we tried all sorts, then Jamesy had this brilliant idea. Plug into the power so we get full screen resolution, then stand in the doorway of the unit to take the pic. All good, he clicked the mouse to take the pic and was very proud of himself! Dork was standing infront of the camera. I started laughing so hard I could not hold the laptop still, so the resulting pic is a bit hazy, but you get the idea.

Yip, it's known as the Princess Bed but don't let that put you off.

Hi. Is there still room on this ride? I'm keen to come. Cheers.

If your name is Bruce then you are booked, see you at point A on the day.

Nari has 25 booked and so do I but I think one may have dropped out, still a good number for a three group ride.

Hi Mark, hadn't got that far in my thinking. I'm due to be a first time granddad in a few days, and dealing with stupid arse judges that reserve their decision and then don't do the work so you end up travelling to court (220kms away) 3 times more just to hear a verdict  so I'm dealing with that first.

We went to Pukenui today, primarily to check out the Saturday lunch stop. It took an age for us get served and started to rethink the idea of stopping there on the 16th. Had a talk to the lady about our plans after lunch (which was a generous feed) and she offered us a $10 Burger/Chips combo (normally $18) and now that she knows there will be 25 of us, the staff will be there to ensure food gets out quicker. I told her we will be stopping there for a coffee/cold drink on the way up, and lunch on the way back.

Roads are in great condition, only bit of road works we have seen so far was for about 100mts just over the one lane bridge at Kaeo

Had a good look around the Doubtless Bay area today, Rangiptua/Matai Bay/Whatawhiwhi.

All beds are have now been allocated. Rodney and Hayden in tents.
The chocolate makers can stay above the managers office when they turn up...
If anyone really wants to come on the ride from now? bring a tent.

PS: When did Ash have a sex change and why don't I know about it?:wait:
