Na its all good, hope it was a good ride and Boomer gave everyone the learn :D
Shit not good to hear of the bikers down-RIP to those concerned
Korn-worker-no life :/
I got a puncture after paparoa thanks to shitty tubes.Guy on the black bird with the white mirrors and the no shame radar detector. i hope i wasnt too much of a burden. riding 2 up with was hell fun. you really knew the raod and wernt afraid to ride quick even with me on the back.
Thanks to Mike and Alex at Marauder Suzuki in Wangarei for fixing the puncture.
You're a legend for that .As for the riding i did get to do it wasnt too bad... kept getting dropped in the straights which was annoying.
Thanks too Custard Quick Chick for putting on the ride and TL Rider for letting me come along.

RIP to the rider Who died.
any one outthere heard from swanny all day???? he was looking to rendezvoue (sp) at kaukoppakoppa, hope he made it... RIP

Swanny was on ride,he was a bit late ariving in wellsford, went on to Paparoa, then onto Bayleys Beach,i don,t know if he went up north, a few of us left Bayleys beach straight back to Auckland, Thanks Qkchk.Custard,TL Rider,Awsome Day.
R I P to the riders today
Yeah Swanny got to the lookout at least.
Great ride, thanks Qkchk, Custard, TLRider and the other organisers. Great roads, love to do the Forest in summer though, bit too damp today for me. That road out of Paparoa was fun!!
Some of us oldies(?) turned back from the lookout and had a good ride back. I'm the most sore I've ever been on a bike...and "only" 656km. Hope the rest of the crew get home safely
Paul, Your brake lights are real bright!! I couldn't see anything if you braked... just when it was important to too.. Good riding with you today!
Was also fun following SpankMe in the dark... Flames out the exhaust and all!!
Fuck yes, longest time i have ever spent in the saddle, had a great time, lots of sore bits, BIG thanks to Custard/Qkchk/TL and all the support crew (those pointer people at coners) saw some legend riding today, was great being passed by so many bikes, first time night riding and on the new bike and in the rain as we left Whanga's. Stop there for a coffee and visor clean. 64 was the count up at Paparoa and i think 71 at Bayley's.

7th May 2006, 20:13
Yeah I was a bit late, I thought I'd take a shortcut through Wainui but there was a Cycle race on with ignorant fucks hogging the road.
Despite being fixed as T.E.C for most of the ride I managed to hang back and enjoy the Forest. The two wheel slides were fun and I almost managed to get the last of my chicken strips gone. That is one awesome road for 250's.
On the way back from Kaikohe I gave Dover the learn through some twisties, felt sorry for him so I pulled over to let him pass :Pokey:
Even passed TL Rider on the outside again  :Pokey:
Flat tyres, over heating engines, mufflers falling off bikes, first corner bins and plenty of wheelies to keep the kids waving on the side of the road happy.
Cheers QKCHK, Custard and TL Homo.
Almost makes for a perfect day, apart from Christine taking another Rider.
R.I.P.

Thanks to Mike and Alex at Marauder Suzuki in Wangarei for fixing the puncture. That rider was me, and the "Blackbird" was "Roxanne" my old CRB1000F (LOL). Ya pillioned well. Big thanks ta Maunder Suzuki. That man saved the day for me, Kevin and you SkOrM. Kevin's new Jinxxer kept blowing fuses (I had stopped 3x on the way down Oak/Pap road due to Kevin's Bike). The Maunder Dude had loaned Kevin his bike and was waiting for his Ute when I add SkOrM's flatty to his list of pick-ups. Thank you heaps Maunder Dude, by picking up SkOrM ya saved my riding day. Just can't thank ya enough for that.
Had ta stop again for a Naked Yammy with a busted pipe just after we left Baileys Beach, so was hammering "Roxanne" again ta regain the pack.
Thank god I didn't have anyone else I had to stop for after that, and really enjoyed my blast from Omapere ta Kaikohe and then ma hommie road, Mangakahia/Twin Bridges Rd(nothing was going ta stop me on ma Hommie road:devil2: ).
All in all a good day.
The saddest thing at the end of the day was ta hear of the downed bikers in Helensville. RIP.

Big Ups to the northern crew for a fantastic ride.
Boy what a big day.....
Those roads are excellent, such a shame the day had to end. Well worth the trip up to meet and ride with northern KB'rs...thanks fellas.
I'm totally stuffed now and I've still got a full day's riding ahead of me tomorrow.....I'm glad I came up and experienced the far north.
Good to meet and ride with you all.......Cheers :niceone:

Was good to be out on the Bandit again after 3 months inactivity, found some possible issues I'll need to have fixed before the next outing. Was a shame the 'medium paced' group kinda went out the window though ;)
Paul, Your brake lights are real bright!! I couldn't see anything if you braked... just when it was important to too.. Good riding with you today!
Soz about the brake lights, I was rather pleased when you went passed as my eyesight was failing me in the dark. Made it alot easyier with someone in front.
That was a looooooooong day. I enjoyed the ride, much thanks to the organisers.

Oh yes, he did that alright. Didn't you Boomer?
What an awesome day and superbly organised. Full credit to everyone involved.
Whens the next one ?
That road from Kaikohe had to be set out by a biker. What is it called ??
A bloody good day had by most if not all yesterday which ended up giving us pretty bloody good weather and all.
Had 23 of the Norfland Crew turn up which was excellent!!
A bike count at Sharkeys at Bailies Beach showed 72 or 74,either way a frecking good show.
Got a "few" toasted bod's here still recovering from a good days riding, loads of bourbons whilst watching the Super frecking Bikes...I reckon they should recover at some stage.
Had some mean runs learning to ride the ZX with a -1 sprocket off the front. Damn I love sideways!!!
Good to meet the new faces,y'all seemed to have enjoyed yourself which is what yesterday was all about.
Hope none of the sanity-challenged Crew from up this way freaked ya
PS: If Boomer gave anyone the learn it must of been in junior school :Pokey:

Thanks for a great ride guys, I had fun HEAPS of fun up to our eating spot! There was even a time where I was sitting behind custard for a while  :doobey:  (Never thought I'd see the day, prob never will again :not: )
Towards the end of the day things started going very wrong for me, I had a couple of very stupid and very scary moments which totally killed the self confidence :baby:

Some of us had to ride home from "Chez TL" at 8pm due to work this morning.
Fuck it was cold on the way home and it rained on me from just south of town all the way to Waipu/Brynderwyn. Thankfully I only "saw" one pig all the way to Auckland.
Good day out, thank's to Chris for organising the Sharky's deal it was fuckin great.
Awesome to catch up with the mad northland cunts, Shorty and Gerver have got to be the craziest bastards I've ever seen on two wheels and overall a great turnout without any bins or incidents that I heard of.
Also good to see Uncle B up from Wellywood and glad he went home with a hard on, although it might make for a slightly uncomfortable trip back.
As for you Swanny, if getting stuck behind a fat man on a slow korean farm bike is being given the learn then I'll let you enjoy your moment. I now feel educated.
I had a bit of a crap days riding to be honest, wasn't there mentally and people kept saying how hung over I looked, funny cos I was sober the night before. Just one of those days.
TL mate, all those stories I've heard about you doing runners from the cops really impressed me. I had this vision of you being a really hard core badass. But now the truth comes out...
Looks like you guys had fun. I would have come along but the "no 250's" thing put me off.
Looks like you guys had fun. I would have come along but the "no 250's" thing put me off.
Is your speed triple a 250?
No, its a 600. But when the missus is on the back I pretty much ride it like a 250cc. Pillion comfort and all that. All i'd get from upping the pace is a punch in the kidneys.
looks great.
did anybody get any action shots of the ride? or are all the photos parked up ones?

Home safe after 2044 of fun filled kms in total for me this weekend.
Got a grin from ear to ear after blasting through some of the wickedest roads I've been on. You northern guys sure know how to ride.
Dover, what happened to your "A" game? After you gave all the Welly boys the learn I thought I was in for a real "Battle of the Gixers"....Sadly no...I didn't see you all day except for the pit stops to let you catch up :Pokey:

Tiller & the dude on the 999s......cheers for showing the way and putting on a cracking pace that was just right
Thanks to all for putting on a great ride...one to be remembered for a long time....Good to meet you all....maybe some of you will make it down to our nations capital and sample what we have to offer.

Hey all cheers for an awesome day out
Many thanks to Qkchk, Custard, and TL for organising a brilliant day out
It was good to meet a heap more riders...the Repsol dude from Donington cheers mate awesome looking bike and i miss that track was there in 04 and had a blast (apart from the 4 hours just getting out of the carpark!)
Thanks Qkchk for not being put off what i thought was a bit of a slow pace through the forest was really hoping i wasn't holding you up (2 up on the zzr and its like trying to get a beached whale back into the sea!!)
Motoracer.....mate you can ride! Ditto Aff-man nice wheelie at Paparoa!! And all the others pulling wheelies....good shit!
Bloody good ride the old ZZR needed a good blowout!
And thanks TL and Duc-girl for the SBK racing and stunts dvd later on. If i hadn't been so knackered it would have been good to carry on drinking (curse working the next day!)
Thanks again looking forward to the next one!!

Yeah, you are on the money there Uncle B.
My "A" game was nowhere to be seen, total mental block all day and it was pissing me off something chronic. It was just one of those rides where I knew I was destined to cruise. I can't afford a number 4 and I was tempted to turn back as early as Welsford cos I was feeling that pissed off with my riding.

Definitely the most well organized ride I’ve been on since the site started. Well done to the organizers. It was good how the ride was kept moving. No pissing about on the short stops as tends to happen on other rides. Was also a good move to keep the smaller bikes off the ride. This helped keep the ride moving also as no waiting forever at the turnoff for everyone to catch up.
The ride home was a bit of a worry as it got dark and I had a tinted visor. I couldn’t see the road at all and was only able to see the tail light of the bike in front. The only way I could tell which way the road went was by watching his tail light. Had a few scary moments. Will remember to use the clear visor next time.
I thought the roads were fairly average until we got to the forest. That was just bloody awesome. I love the real tight twisty stuff. I wish I could take the GB through there, but its just too far to go on the small bike. Really enjoyed going through it and back through it again on the way home. So what road was that and what’s the quickest way to get there?

Cheers mate, was certainly a lot of behind the scenes stuff happening from a few of us. Glad there weren't any bins which I put down to having more than one speed group therefore the cruisey crew weren't getting "harrassed" by others. Next time though we might make an extra group...Insane :slap:
The quickest way to the Waipoua Forest is through Mangatoroto/Paparoa and then on to Dargiville...SH12. From there you'll know the way. PM me if you require tail lights to follow so you're not guessing with the up coming corners.
I'm also wrapped with the Gold Coin Koha/Donation...didn't hurt anyone and will continue for future Norfland organised rides too

In saying that i'm not overly keen on an early grave, as not many are, some, but not many, i wont make a 50/50 pass on a bend if it means keeping up with the guy in front, not worth it, and people who do all the crazy passing, using both lanes of the road and shit i dont wanna ride with, they're only lucky if they are in front of you at the next stop, hate plonkers who go bragging about who they owned such and such when it was because such and such thought better about a head on with a car full of kids instead of chancing it. Or becasue such and such doesn't see the point in full noise in a straight line (waste of gas and tyres)a big bike is fkn hard to steer at high speed, leave it for the twisty's, very rarely do i hit above 200kph, no point, the mess is just bigger. When me and the faster guys go for a blast we keep it to 160-180kph on the straight bits then attack the twistys full on, it keeps the group closer together and this way sometimes helps other riders improve with the fast guys always in sight. Plus it gives an easier chance to pass the guy in front that maybe slightly holding you up in the twisty section, once you get a faster group it's just to hard/dangerous to put a pass on, any muppet can nail a 1000cc in a straight line and make it hard to pass and slow you up in the twisty's, which gets frustrating and someone trys something dumb and well what happens from there is anyones guess.
Suppose I better put in my 10 cents worth eh?
Well, I think it worked out better than I thought it would. The main thing - NO BINS! The 'bin' as mentioned earlier in the thread was from a 250 rider who turned around and went home.
Couple of problems
- 2 Flat Tyres
- Couple people went the wrong way/some intersections werent marked out
- Broken Exhaust Mount
- Couple of Speeding Tickets
- 1 Pair of boots with a worn through hole in the toe
- Norfland Crew givin the learn :Pokey:
However, a very successful ride!
Big thanks to:
Custard, TLtoeless, The rest of the Norfland Crew for hosting us noisey lot. Yeah, riding a 250 really makes you understand that eh :crybaby:
Good post though mate.. outlined some good points.
Well its taken me at least an hour to read through the threat since the ride. What a fantastic day, its the best social event I can ever remember :not: At Sharkys we calculated there was probably over $1,000,000 (yes thats one million dollars for those who cant count the zeros) worth of bikes. That's impressive. I met so many great people and kept referring to everyone by the wrong name:rolleyes: Swanny thanks a heap for TEC, I know what it feels like so your a legend mate for volunteering:2thumbsup Had a great ride through to Dargaville with Qkchk pushing me along (sorry to hold you up in the corners, changing my riding style so all up the wop). There were times when I was out on the open highway from Sharkys up to the forest all by my lonesome wondering 'what 60 freaking bikes'. The evening back here just got better as we waited for the superbikes to start. Nodrog and Korumba you guys were bloody funny, a comedy act if ever I saw one, we should sell tickets next time. The best part about the whole day was everyone was sensible enough to ride their own ride. I think the groups sorted themselves out nicely. I wish I could have got around and met everyone there but it was just too busy. Wybmadiity you can ride girl, and to do it on ya wee beast ALL bloody day (5am start I believe) with very little sleep then party with us half the night, babe you put some of them blokes seriously to shame:Pokey: Sooo looking forward to the next one:grouphug:

Shit did he what! that cyclist didn't even see him coming!
750km was my end count for the day (2Much what was your count?)
About 1200k's all up.
No, its a 600. But when the missus is on the back I pretty much ride it like a 250cc. Pillion comfort and all that. All i'd get from upping the pace is a punch in the kidneys.
The 250 rule was more about the inexperience than the speed, you would've been fine.
HUH did you say ya girl is trading the TL in on an SV :slap: dont do it it's waste of time, sorry to SV owners but TL's are 10x better. TL1000S :not:

Riderinblack for being the mobile machanic, you saved yet again alot of people from difficult situations. Also Mike from Maunders Suzuki who so kindly gave up his bike and ride to NZKilt. I can't add a lot, 'cept a big :niceone: to Quickchik, Custard an' Tlrider(and anyone else involved) for setting this up, prolly the best bloody run ride I've been on.
Myself, had a pretty average day, not much sleep the night before etc.
Left westgate following Qc on the R1 through to the turnoff on old nrth, past all the farkin cyclists who thought the road was theirs....then led the way at a moderate pace onto and up 16, till MR shot past at warp 10, so latched onto him and had a bit of a blast 'till we stopped to let the others catch up, then cruised with them into wellsford, a quick break/ regroup and on to paparoa. Not a bad blast through the paparoa road (cool road too, on of my faves) putted up 1 and otaika valley road. Took turnoff duties at cemetry road for a bit 'till duc-girl got there then had a hell blast through to dragsville, thank fark there were no orificers....gas then on to lunch.
Pulled outta bayleys beach road and pulled a wheelie up the straight and got farkin cramp in both hands and had to stop and stretch 'em for a bit (couldn't let the bars go to use the brake or clutch....)the front guys had long gone so set of at a moderate pace again(with aicking paws) agin 'till guess who shot past again so hooked up with him for a bit, 'till we hit the forest, then it gets a bit tight to pass so just followed the guy in front, out the other end and aff-man passes so chased him for a bit 'till some mad bugger two up on a freight truck (busa) passed us, shot past affman and hooked onto him 'till the stop at the top of the hill. Good blast through to kaikohe following kevin, gixser and some guy on a 999, Got to kaikohe with a shot rear tyre and body, farkin wrist etc was had it....real slow painful trip home from there down mangakahia road (another of my faves) to mangatapere where we said goodby to the norfland crowd, and putted down 1 uneventfully home....
That was my day, bored yet?

Interesting, girls and boys, remember all those cyclists we passed on the Old North Rd, (5 minutes from westgate)well i happened to work with one: he mentioned he was riding along on his side of the road, when this biker came around the bend "ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE ROAD" and nearly took him out--he was NOT impressed, now this guy is not one for whinging" He is a biker himself--
the reason why i put it here , is just to remind people that there are other people on the roads --
and putted down 1 uneventfully home....
That was my day, bored yet?
yeah i agree, the ride home, AFFman,MR.Death inc,(Eric) a few others was very uneventfull, glad it stopped raining though, i just cranked up the ipod" and slipped into the 'zone"

The cyclist I passed heading along Wainui Road were complete arseholes using the entire left lane and weaving over the road. Eventually I was forced toa 30kmp/h crawl or cruise along straights on the wrong side of the road.
No excuses for the fella who went on the wrong side of the road oncoming to the cyclist though.
Positive for the day - my horn works.
what a great day, untill we hit the forest. what a work out trying to heave the best from corner to corner, and the just when i was getting into the rythm i ran out of brakes. and that was fun too. over heated.
now i wish i had a lovely black zx10
but i think i would have shit my undies.
and it was good to meet some of ya out there.
thankfully i had extra clothes and the wet weathers for the ride home.
and who was that guy on the respol 2 up. no offence but that lady was hanging on so tight i thought see was a backpak. bloody fantastic riding.
next time id love to get ahead of ya all and get some action photos.
but i think i could pass on the catch up overtake and get more photos.
ya were all bloody flying.

Mike from Maunders Suzuki who so kindly gave up his bike and ride to NZKilt.
Yes huge appreciation to Mike Maunder of Maunder's Suzuki Whangarei for not only giving up his first group ride ever,he also gave up his bike to help out two KBers on the ride!! It was less than 20mins into the ride...
Legendary status in my books!! :first: :niceone:
Always good to know that there are good bizzo's out there willing to help out a stranded/troubled rider eh!
So if ever in Whangarei and are in need of advice, help or a chat feel free to pop in and chat with Mike and his Crew

I had a couple of cars drive straight at me while overtaking the big group of cyclists. They were taking up the entire lane.
I can't believe that shit is allowed.

Controlled looney, thank you.
I second that...
Sounds like a wicked ride!!! Wish Chloe and I could have made it... Ah well the next one :niceone:

First of all, A huge thanks to all the organisers!! Quickchick, Custard, TLrider and co. I had an awesome time out. I take my hat off to you for how well you all organised it all. 64 bikes with only minor incidents.. Wow, that is mighty impressive.
Ok... Let me explain a few things to put things into perspective.
This is what I normally do on a KB ride.
* Watch people ride and analyse their riding when I come up behind them.
* Rate them in my own mind. That is how I know how good someone is.
* If they rate high, I'll stick behind for a while to see what he/she has got.
* Then if I am quicker, I'll make a pass.
* Then the only use I have for my mirrors is when I adjust my speed on the straights to make sure the rider isn't left behind so that they have an oppertunity to follow me for a bit as well. Hence, I was backing off in the straight sections when ever I was pulling away from the corners at times (Leading all the time gets f'ing boring!)
* Once I complete these steps and have my fun, I carry on to the next rider.
Therefore, I tried to always start from the back of the fast group. To get to know everyone as a rider. The only downside to this was that I didn't get to spend that much time with the group leaders.
As for the guy on the Falco owning me... Gixer told me about him at the last big stop, and since I hadn't come across him before, I was excited to see what he had. When I finally got the chance, I followed him for a bit. Fuckin fast but... He was using both lanes quite heavily... Which I am not big on... Not for road pace anyway. Only if I was to step up to a race pace, I'd start using both lanes, but I don't do that on open roads... (Hence it doesn't matter to me if I know the roads or I don't). I was throughly dissapointed when he stopped at the pub, before I got the chance to continue the rest of my usual routine and make the pass etc. etc. I was soo impressed with the fact that he was the quickest I had come across and that was with 2 up on a Falco FFS!!! So I turned back and stopped by the pub to say Gidday to him and compliment his riding. I am sure he'd be quicker than me, if he was 1 up on thoes roads.. I don't doubt that.. But when I was behind him that time, nither me nor my R6 were close to "full noise".
If this was a year ago, my younger self would have come up the very next weekend for a few head to head challenges to settle some scores and prove a point but these days, I have learned to let my ego go... Just in the last month I know of a couple of good ridding buddies who have been killed on bikes. I have realised exactly what happens to people like me who over induldge on speeding on public roads. Hence I don't have anything to prove anymore. I just ride within my comfort zone just to have fun and I normally try to keep the speeds below 200kmph and stick to my own side of the lane.. If I come last, sweet, if I come first all good. It's not a race, if I'm just having a bit of fun, that's all I care about.
BTW, in my eyes, top riding by
Falco dude - Fuck would love to see you go full tits when you are 1 up sometime... Top effort, you have my full respect!
Kevin on a blue/white K3 GSXR1000 - I enjoyed our little battle!
Gixer - Good riding and awesome wheelies as always!
2much - Awesome riding and again fukin trick wheelies!
Dude on a burgundy Bandit 1200 - Awesome pace!
Yellow Ducati 999s - Good stuff!
Dude on the red Ducati - You know who you are.
TL rider - Awesome fast riding on the fast stuff.
Repsol blade 2 up - Nice pace for 2 up man.
Aff-man - Wheelies are getting better all the time!
There were other heaps of great riders out but I probably missed them or I never came across them on the ride. Congratulations to everyone (including me) for keeping the shiney side up and ruber side down. Shame about that one crash though and RIP to the rider who is no longer with us...
There were some beautiful scenery up there but as for the roads.. Yea, some of it was nice and twsity but a fukin long way to travel for that when I can just do it close to home.. There were far too many open sweeper type of corners and not enough tight stuff.. So I loved every bit of that ride but it just might be a once in a life time experience that I probably wouldn't repeat too soon. (too much money to spend on tires and fuel etc). It was my second road ride out on the R6 and I love her more and more every day! So yea, next time you fellas come down here for a ride, it'd be good to catch up. :)
Controlled looney, thank you.

I fully agree 100% , you'r a wise motha fukka.
BTW None of the above is bullcrap.. I'm always 100% honest. Even if I got smoked by Justsomeguy fair and square, I'll openly admit it. But if there is something incorrect, I just feel the need to correct it. Hence the long explanation. Not that it all matters anyway so I don't know why I bothered.. LOL
As you were..

My opinion of overtaking on blind corners, using both lanes and other seemingly risky antics has changed somewhat.
After meeting some of the Norfland Crew and knowing how they ride, its proof that accidents occur because of peoples MISTAKES and not their TAKING RISKS.
One great Surgeon said "Where you see risk I see opportunity"
Personal preference is the key.
One point I'd like to make about the Norfland lot is that they ride there own ride (even if it is dangerous to some). They don't try to prove anything.
Different for Dorklanders.

All the people I could see from the back were riding their own ride which was awesome to see.
Who was the fella on the Honda cruiser? Huge respect to him for coming along, very rarely do you see a cruiser come out on a KB ride. I think that highlights how much of a success this ride was by having two paces and been well organised.

If it was not for you guys it would not have been the success it was. I am very pleased to say i survived the whole ride still under a motorbike accident injury from the 6th of Feburary which for those who did not know was the last big ride qkchk/custard/tlrider/ organised, as i rode with only 20% wrist capabuility in my left hand. Don't think I got to meet as many as I would have liked, but it is hard when you are a back runner and by the time you get to the stops everyone else is ready to head off. I followed the maroon cruiser through the forest and with all that scraping he set a comfortable pace for me, (sorry can't remember your name) but cheers.
Big thanks to TL and Duc Girl for the place to rest our butts and heads, was greatful not to have to ride all the home that night! You guys rock! Can't wait to see you down this way and reurn the favour.

Well I had a great day and a stunning ride. I include my thanks to those who organized such a great day and didnt you do well with the weather. It was probably my fastest/longest ride ever and I really enjoyed trying to stay near the front runners. By the time we left Bayleys after lunch I was shattered and should have gone home for a nap instead of turning left to go North. Consequently I was real slow thru the forest etc and did not get home till 8pm but I still enjoyed myself immensly. It was great to catch up with those of you I talked with and I was real impressed with them out front. The poor old Beemer does not have that sort of HP to keep up but it was fun watching the various techniques, wheelies and general skill levels. It all helps my learning curve. Is it just Whangarei people that are insanely fast or is it because you all know the roads so well? Probably both. Or does living in Whangarei make people go insane????? Hmmmm? Dunno!
Thanks to all and I hope to ride with you again soon ( if the bloody rain ever stops)
Cheers
