The weapon of choice..A 1974 Kawasaki 250 triple, two stroke.
Infact as far as 250's went it was two strokes or a BSA or Honda CB250,not likely.

Here are some shots of the partners finished 1988 GPX, painted in our personal candy/pearl finish, "V Bottle" Green, same as our Honda Accord NYTRIS. Its come up pretty good for a bike thats nearly 19 years old. The KR1 is next to get this colour, along with a couple of airbrushed helmets.

shit man, that looks pretty mint! Just gotta get that zorst tidied up... maybe chop it under the fairings and get a stainless connector pipe to join up to a single carbon fibre open can... fark yeh!

well the paint job looks farkin mint, the exhaust on the other hand is stock and looks to be a tad rusted. There is a post around somewhere about carbon fibre exhausts for 250's for about $300, then just get a connector pipe made at pitstop (or get a mate to do it if they are in the know), personally i'd go for a single sided exhaust to save costs... wouldnt worry so much about getting the extra power, more about the look and the sound :Punk:

thats the one your after. Perhaps one for each side? Good be pricey though, and probably too much flow for the little 250... just thought if you didnt want it to be too blingy you could sand back the current headers back to where they go behind the fairings and paint them with black exhaust paint - that'd look nice too.

Slydesigns,
I noticed that it appers that you have silicon spray or tire black on the tyres (on the bike)
Thats a big no no on bikes as the poor bugger that rides it will lean onto the silicon and have horrible slides, or worse, fall off.

mine got 36 at the wheel without the right can on it but it was modded quite a bit, with the other can on it it goes around another 10kmh faster haha so yeah big diff in power... that's still very respectable for a ptwin mate.. pretty darn good :d can't do much to the 250's for real decent power but yeah ya done about all you can do without spending 1000000's
i'll try find some pics of my old bike with the other mods i did to it.. micros and stuff :)

yea a little lower on power than the zxr...but if my memory is correct, you have about 33% more torque!!!!!!!!!!
the gsx would be much better for commuting...for sure

The XS was a piece of crap and only lasted a couple of months. The RG was a blast and I did 10,000 miles on it.
Wouldn't mind a 250 Bandit one day for around town and a bit of fun...

So you're saying you've got the 2007 model with 2008 paintjob? Why? O_O
chazza404
16th November 2007, 11:14
Why? who knows, it doesnt make a whole lot of sense but theyre basically selling them as 2008 models for the brand new price (where as the 07 are a couple hundy less at a dealer), the only '2008' gt250rs in NZ are just a 07 model with an 08 paint job not the actual 08 model with FI etc, just new colour scheme in red black yellow black and silver black no pure blacks :(

So you're saying you've got the 2007 model with 2008 paintjob? Why? O_O
Yup, thats correct. Liked the paintwork, on it much more than the black, yellow,or all red ones. And also there are no 08 models released yet, There are also the 2008 silver/black ones. The 08 are going to to be fuel injected and also some are coming out with a 6 spd box. But generally there is not going to be a lot of differance, apart from the styling and small mods..

Can't find a fault with it so far. Got enough get up and go, nice and smooth through the gears, brakes are solid as, stops really well. Sticks around the corners and is not too heavy and not too light.
So yeah very impressed with it..... Makes riding and (learning) lots of fun..

Can anyone do anything crazy on their 250's? By all means tell me to shut up, but yea, i learnt to play around with them, growing up on a farm helped. Im talking just the usual like wheelies/stoppies etc, to riding sidesaddle, legs over bars etc. i found that the 250 wasn't too bad a bike to learn the basics of some stunting one, although i do not condone such doings on the road. I learnt to do such things in the appropriate closed areas

Picked up in Penrose, quick trip down to Mt Wellington to see a mate,
then off down the Pakuranga Highway to catch another mate in Howick,
After a quick coffee, off down to Eastern Beach to perv at the skanks. . . Tide was out (in every sense of the word),
A quick blat back down the Pak H'Way then right and across to Mission Bay for a cruise around the waterfront,
Up Parnell Rise,

and safe and sound to home in Greenlane.
50 odd kilometers, not bad for a first ride. Itching to get out and about on the unforgiving Auckland roads as much as possible, bugger I have work to go to during the day tommorow.

They're quite nice bikes, actually. Put a few kilometres on one example overseas. Surprisingly grunty considering they're a broad flat torque-curve V-twin. Felt nice and taut through the corners as well.
Sound good debaffled and still run well. Get that electric drill out!

Ya around that, it sorta differs depending were u look, they recan bout 70hp from the engine, 62.5hp at the wheel without mods; exhaust reeds and afew other things will up them quite abit. Seen some at 75hp+ around on some sites.
Also differs in the post 1998 models as they updated them in 1998 with different fairings, better shocks and re-tweaked engine, so the later ones have a lil more and better power delivery. (so anyone looking to buy one look for a post 98 model if u can find one)

yeah, says "measured on dynojets dynamometer."
Factory pro is a great site, lots of good tech articles on several bikes. Read up a bit on that True HP site, goes into dynojet dynamometers,
Today, about 75% of the entire world's hp values are a mess of dynojet "hp", dynojet clone's rough approximations of dynojet horsepower , some brake dyno mfgr's "dynojet channel" that's "+/- 10% of a dj number" , some dynos that out exaggerate the dj numbers and imply that they know what the transmission hp and crank hp is, and even other dynos with the most expensive brochure that read whatever the user wants them to read, True, Real, SF and DJ..... (sigh...)
All because some guy thought that a 1985 prerelease version V Max made 145 crank hp according to the marketing dept. and he couldn't have his "new" inertia dyno read 90 hp on a stock dealership V-Max. Well, he WAS right at 85-90, but he made it read 120 to sell more people on his dynos. And that's where the chassis dyno hp mess started.

bollocks. RS's put out 52hp max at the wheel
http://www.factorypro.com/dyno/true1.html
(citation not needed no more)
From the site linked
torque x rpm / 5252 = horsepower + parasitic power = True HP
Which means as I've long suspected...HP is a completely useless figure anyway....and we should all be paying much more attention to torque.
Maybe manufacturers should start listing figures like
90% of peak torque available from x to y rpm or something

Hopefully can start doing some of that stuff next month still getting all insurance and other stuff ready then its all on

You will find some KB'ers trash Hyo's, and some who trash Hondas, Harleys and whatever. To each his own, we all have our own preferences and prejudices.
To answer your question, no, Hyosungs are not generally crap and a bit wooden. Talk to those that own them, or go to a Hyo forum such as KoRider at http://www.korider.com/ or a YahooGroups forum like http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/Comet250Owners/
As with any internet forum, you will find various opinions, including some criticism but the overwhelming majority of Hyo owners give two :2thumbsup thumbs up to their bikes.
Personally, I think the GTR's look wicked. I test drove one and loved it, but my smashed wrist could not cope with the lean forward position. So I have a Comet which handles well, keeps up with all the big bikes (except the 180 kph screaming idiot racers on a $40k Ducati, etc), looks like a big bike, sits comfortably like a big bike, and gets 80 mpg.
On some Hyo's the rear shocks have not lasted well, and NZ assembly has been shoddy in some cases. Otherwise they are fine, oh - except for the name, I'll grant that "Ninja" is tops for marketing. My mechanic (with 20 - 30 years experience) is not a Hyo dealer and he recommended that his son get a Hyosung.
Thats my bike below, at the start of the Rimatukas, Wairarapa side.

I'm like a 3 year old at xmas now  , but dont have any gear yet... there's only so much fun you can have sitting on the bike in the garage. Anyway, here it is...

It's true it's an 06. They have one down there that is brand new, 8km's on the dial, not a mark on it.

All good, they are fun bikes, ive ridden one myslelf, Im just more annoyed at the prices theyre flicking 250s off more than anything. But If its basically brand new (condition wise I mean - its probably a 2000-2001 model, the dealers sometimes use the year that they are first registered in New Zealand for the model year. (they do it with the zxr250s - giving them model years that are 4 years after production stopped))
Id much rather have one than a Hyobag 250.
Enjoy your new bike. :Punk:

Can they do that?? I mean if it was say a 2002 bike but they bring it into NZ and then say it's a 2006?? Shouldn't that be illegal? Misrepresentation or something like that - sounds a little shady to me. Maybe i'll call them up and check as if it was an 03 and it was sold to me as an 06 i wouldn't be too happy. :2guns:

Love the thing to bits.
JediGazza84 - Nice pic. Good to see the camera was panned so the background is motion blurred (unless you took the time to Photoshop it).
GTR's are great bikes. Anyone who owns one knows that. GT's also, ;) of course. I test rode a GTR but could not cope with the forward lean position. BTW I reckon Hyo's toughen us up since we sometimes have to endure crap thrown at us by certain KBers when they tire of messing with Hondas and Harleys.
