Geeepers, there is a hell a lot of rallies down this Island uh. Not sure if will be able to make this one, could well upset the balance of home life  if I did.
Currently lookin at the northern cold kiwi, which is just a weekend or 2 before.
Ya don't know what your missing lol it's gonna be a goodie this year

Currently lookin at the northern cold kiwi, which is just a weekend or 2 before.
I was considering too (as you know) but I think this would be better value. I can see the route now...down the middle and back home through the middle with the only boring bits being the Canterbury Plains.
Those that want to come this way and stay at Chez Scumdog on the Friday night are welcome.
Eh Mr S.?
Yeah, we've mentioned it several times before. Sounds like a mighty fine idea.

Well you could be onto something oh :weird: "random one" :dodge: In reality the Cold one would cost around $350 bucks to get to and back, without any re hydration fluids added, and of course food. But then who needs food?:puke:
And value for cash would be had by going South. Means I might be able to buy myself somthing less glowing to keep me warm.
I would class myself as a more hydroponic being:yes:
And this southern rally would go just that bit further in filling in the gaps on my South Island map of which I use a highlighter to "highlight" the roads one has traveled.:yeah:
And they better have a nice badge.... do they???

Thought I'd share a few pics from the last PP rally - it was my first.
The ride out to Nugget point and short walk to the lighthouse is really spectacular.
The only potential downside to this rally is that it is right on the Coast at a cool time of year - if you get some easterly weather it could get pretty wet and miserable, but the bonfires and marquee and a bit of internal fortification keeps anything like that at bay if you are prepared.
The day cruise ride out is a feature and was good fun - as XK said the band was really good last year
pic1 - Kaitangata pub on the cruise
pic2 - from the lighthouse at Nugget point (theres 4 different types of seal that breeds in the rock pools below the track out here)
pic 3- KB group, marquee etc in background

I downloaded the free IrfanView software that allows you to reduce file sizes amoungst many other things - when you do that and also put it into JPeg files it seems to be able to reduce the file size dramatically without too much loss of clarity.
My camera is a 4 MP with a large lens compared to the more compact cameras you get now with small lenses that use very much higher MP to get good pictures (and therefore file sizes get very large)

Damn!
This is a tempting rally to travel to. And since no other Pig Islander has posted, I will tentatively put my hand up for attendance.
Combining the Cold Kiwi and Pissed Penguin would make for a hell of a ten odd day circuit.
So at this stage, I need to dig out some maps, decide on the Scrambler or Daytona, and curry up various on road overnight lodgings. :innocent:
Would like to do it on the Scrambler, so i could ride some back station roads. Nothing too blood n guts. Just something to wett my appetite to return.
Any suggestions?:scooter:

so a question to you previous attendees...where do they hold the rally itself? Been to kaka point so i have an idea of the township...
Would like to consider doing this one this year, trying to encourage my auntie to meet me there from Invercargill.
Gonna have to check out the racing dates first and see if anything clashes first.

Go to KP amd carry on straight through, about 1.5km further along there is a small creek with a bridge over it, just past the bridge (and I said JUST!) is a gateway into domain on your right. You're there.
Any further and you're onto gravel road - leading to the Nugget Point.

You've got it - that road you turned down goes down the side of the domain.
No panic to register for this one, the badges are restricted to the first 600 !!!
I don't think they'll run out this year either. It was a really good rally, friendly as usual, good set up with bonfires etc, decent size marquee for the band and dancing/staggering or doing the scumdog jitter. Try to be there in time to go on the cruise though (leaving at 1pm) 'cos that was good fun and included about 4 stops last time, and have good wet weather gear for on and off the bike.

I always think a bloke who has a bit of a girl side is the best one to knock around with, you know, one whose sensitive, one who listens, instead of some blokes, who just gaze into space and grunt yeah intermittently......................and I will buy a t shirt at this one, as waited too long to get my favourite IOM t-shirt and they had run out:crybaby: unlike IDB who did act like a girl and purchased a number of t-shirt's, :bleh: me being more practical bought a fantastic waterproof TT jacket and a TT Beany and stickers for my bike too......ner ner ne ner ner. Check out IDB's The Who T Shirt, purchased washed and it looks ghastly, oh well IDB never mind kidder........<_<
btw, check out our air guitars on the dance mud at the penguin, we have perfected them, and will trip the light fantastico there,:niceone:
Anyway, now back in the land of blightly, and heading to London this weekend, and will post a photo of me and my mates sandwiched in between a couple of beefy eaters, or is it beefeaters.:msn-wink: Ahar.
So crew get your air guitars dusted out and me thinks an award for the best effort could be a little game us KBers could play, we will have to get an outsider to officiate, as I wouldnt trust anyway I know to judge it, knowing Mr. Sensible and Scummy, they would bribe to win.

If we're going to be cooking we gotta make sure we get Delphinus there with his bloody great Taj Mahal tent - that was fantastic in the rain at the Brass - in fact a couple of people put up their smaller tents inside it and then carried them outside when they had them erected and waterproof!!!
The huge vestibule area was great for cooking. It will be a big bitch of a thing to strap to his new bike though - have you tried J???
Anyone got a good idea for a food theme?? - we did the exotic picnic at the March hare, the fillet steak/lamb chops and mull wine at the Brass, what next???? Dessert?? - thought that came in a bottle??

Your mind is a truly worrisome place NH
The good riding weather should be back tomorrow SD - unfortunately gonna be busy shearing for the next 3 days, starting tomorrow am. which kinda put paid to a trip I had been planning.
Long range weather forecast is for it to be mainly dry through August and September so it should be good for the Penguin.

Tomorrow?
Hell, on night-shift tonight - so I'll be sleeping through the 'riding weather'. Dang!
That sun is still shining SD - you still on night shift? Should finish our shearing tomorrow and once into next week I have some serious riding catching up to do - finally took the T/A out of the garage and gave it a wash to get the Brass Monkey adventure ride crap off it. Its still bloody cold but a 11am to 2pm ride on one of these nice days will be just the thing to blow out the system - anyone keen?

Why not buy a house truck - you can keep moving without having to pack!!. Get one with a hoist and a garage on the back for your bike and you'd be well sorted:sunny:

Well, got my number through, and Im number 26, blimey what was I doing when I was 26? urgh, been married for a year, and joined the feds and just finished training and pounding the beat......cripes thats seem like an eternity away.
Anyway, had my first ski lesson this morning, oh my god, what a stack of fun that was, surprising how reckless you feel hooning down the slopes on your own for the first time after a lesson:shit: Thank god for the snow plough, jeeps I carved up the snow a treat today I can tell you......dont think I have laughed so much, since sitting on that bull, very pissed at the Isle of Man....
Gonna dust off the snowboard, and give that another go before the end of the snow, mind you everyone seems to spend a lot of time, on their arse, fronts, back with that snowboarding, I never found it as fun as this skiing lark
So 56 sleeps now then, cant believe that rally was a whole year ago..........remember it was quite :sunny: on arrival, hope its like that when we all arrive.

If you stay at the backpackers in Milton then I can lead you on a pretty good "non tar babies" route to Kaka Point on Sat morning. Be good to have at least another one adventure rider around and with any luck Jantar, MBazza and Oldrider may join up and any others coming down from Canterbury.

I had intended going down on friday night, but you do offer an interesting alternative RM. What route are you thinking of?
Where were you going on the Friday night? - SD's place?, I don't think theres anything happening at the rally site on the Friday.
I could cope with quite a few (housetrained!) bodies here on the Friday night and then we could head off on Sat morning with a slightly clearer head than would be likely from the other venue!!
with this rally a feature is the group ride out about 1pm so we want to be there for that after setting up tents etc etc.
I was thinking of leaving here about 9am heading back towards Waitahuna and doing a loop up over Mt Stuart coming back onto SH8 just above the Manuka Gorge (Burma Road), go through the gorge then turn left into Perry Rd and then I want to turn left at the top of Perry road and follow round past Table Hill and over the causeway at the headwaters of the Toko River (I've heard about this but never been over there)and then heading back down to SH1, probably via Circle Hill, Down to Milton and then turn off and take the gravel out to Toko Mouth, along the coast to come in the back of Kaitangata and probably just stick to the seal out to Kaka Point from there.
All visiting bikers should do the ride out to the Nugget point lighthouse which is about 10km of easy gravel from the rally site.
That route should include some really good viewing sites - I could make a much longer trip but I think that will be enough for the morning. Last year we did a run out to the lighthouse after we got back from the group ride.
What other adv bikers are interested in that ride?

Good stuff and keep in touch. When we leave here we'll go that back road to Waitahuna that we rode last time.
I checked out the road over table hill on Friday - missed one turn and nearly ended up in the forestry out the top of the Waitahuna Heights but I was having such a blast on those backroads and it was really good just getting out on the bike again that a few extra Kms wasn't a bother.
We'll duck up to the lookout above the Milton Limeworks where they have built a shed with a big glass wall you look through to see all these huge fossils of whales and things they have found when blasting out the limestone.
After that probably a coffee stop in Milton and then out to Toko Mouth and along the coast.

We're an easy "just under an hour" in a car. I reckon we want to get away from here by around 9-9:15am.
Anyone arriving down later than that could meet us up in Milton for a coffee and then the ride out to the coast. Should be in Milton around 10:30 - best coffee is the Westside Cafe at the South end between Hammer Hardware and the BP garage.

This rally is quite clearly advertised as being Sat the 15th - as far as we are aware there is nothing happening there on the Friday, there wasn't last year.
