looks good Yod .. but might detour over the saddle to Woodville if sarge or other D vegas riders want to join in .. not sure if we can get on back road to alfredston or if we have to get to pahiatua .. but we can suss that out a bit closer to the time once we know who is coming .. ;)

Well done with the map Yod, i think maybe the Ashhurst boyz might stop getting lost now
Maybe we need to deflate cowboyz tyres a little to slow him down and keep him from leading :dodge:
I'm heading up to Napier this saturday, coming back on sunday.
Anyone who feels like escorting me for any part is welcome to come along of course
I can leave pretty much anytime on Saturday and take my time getting there (read: back roads:niceone:) - On Sunday I will probably leave Napier around 2pm-ish and will almost certainly be coming down route 50 to dannevegas but from there its all up in the air....text if you wanna catch up - i can probably check kb on sunday morning too if anyone comes up with a plan....
all suggestions welcome....
edit: this is all assuming the weather isn't garbage

I am a bit gutted to be quite honest One of my kitchen designers/office manager has a month off having an operation and one of our joiners left a couple of weeks ago so we have had to have a change around of staff leaving me to run the whole office on my own so i havnt had time to even think about riding let alone getting on the bike so it has sat in the shed since Sunday
However i am going to Wellywood on Saturday to measure a couple of jobs so my choice of transport is very obvious,:scooter: even if its raining
400 kms on her so far and i can tell you the heated hand grips work extremely :Punk: well

woo hoo nice lil group forming so far .. hope alot more can make it ..
this definately is not a fast ride .. really want some of the lurkers out there to come join us .. important that you ride your own ride
If we have a large enough group we will have a tail end charlie organised (prob me) .. & converge together as a group regularly .. there will be a ride brief at Ashhurst mobil so everyone is in the loop
Since Al pretty much rode the route today & I have not been past masterton will rely on his expertise on the roads further south ..
anything else ppl can think of to make this ride successful .. Al was thinking if you, yod, meanie take the lead & like turangi when you turn off second rider stops & directs everyone in the same direction once tail end charlie goes through can ride ahead again .. that way the ride can pretty much flow & have fewer stops .. what do you think ? .. we can decide on stopping points to regather again as a whole ...
also where is a good eating place down that way ?? & if we have a large enough number should we warn them ??

Might be a good idea to sort out some sort of timetable and re group points That way if someone along the way wants to join us they know what time and where
Allow enough time for the stragglers
I nominate Yod for this job cause he drew the route on the map
anyone second that

shit. I really want to come now even if it is just to get you guys lost.
might have to create a plan...........
Put your front tyre on or I'll fit my pillion seat
a quick RF chain/sprocket update:
started the mission wednesday night with a flash new DID x-ring chain and new sprockets. took as much off the bike as I could then cowboyz showed up with a few tools that I was lacking. discovered the front sprocket nut was tighter than a fishes arse, so put it back together and off we went to his workshop to give it a crack with the airgun...hmm...interesting transmission issues I discovered....why? cowboyz put my gear change on backwards so now it was 1 up, 4 down....
got home and back into it, everything ok but we just didnt have anything tool-wise sufficient to press the rivet link on with...needed too much pressure so we flagged it for the evening
continued the mission thursday night: i got hold of a g-clamp and a cheap-o vice, that did the trick, rivet link went on with a bit of elbow grease then i just waited for cowboyz to return with the right tools to punch the rivet ends and put the sprockets back on
was a bit of a mission to put the rear wheel back on and get the brake disc back between the pads, so we ripped the caliper off, took the pads out and tried to push the pistons back out...nup, wasn't happening....using the g-clamp and vice and a variety of techniques we finally got the pistons out, back together she went, we bled the brakes (and topped up with dot4)
almost completely back together now and i was leaning on the rear brake so cowboyz could tighten the front sprocket nut....hello....rear brakes not releasing!!:shit: so now i'll have to take the rear caliper off AGAIN and sort out the pistons....same problem as I've got with the front brakes on the viffer (FFS!!!) :oi-grr:
ahwell....at least i'm getting to know my bikes a bit better.....

well since I dunna know times very well, thought I might have a natter to both Yod & 86 re times .. 86 & I chatted about the route & eating places on the way down .. & might natter to a few of the masterton crowd for places that are good & on the trip ..
I will update the first post & calendar next week when things are coming together put main points are leaving shannon 9.30, leaving ashhurst mobil 10.30 .. since sarge has put his name down will meet in woodvill after we travel saddle road at caltex ( is that the first garage?) 10.50 & leave 11.00am ... fuel stop pahiatua thenback roads to masterton (refuel?) .. thats as far as I know .. or as far as i have travelled ...
so might have to give you a call on sunday jonno to work it all out is that cool ?? & will chat to 86 more about a route from masterton to takas .. guessing we will stop on summit of the taka's then refuel in hutt stop on paikakariki hill & sedate trip home dropping off ppl as we go ..
might even have choccy cake in shannon for a coffee break
shit. I really want to come now even if it is just to get you guys lost.

Took some photos on the way back as it was getting dark on Paekok hill

umm...not that i remember, there were a crapload of bikes out yesterday and quite a few today too, came back down route 50 then the main road to woodville, hung a left to pahiatua and treated the RF to a rip over the track before we got home, started raining 10 minutes after i parked her in the garage....nice timing
a few pics from yesterday at the patangata pub, where river rd meets elsthorpe rd - definitely worth shooting through there again, awesome riding. i turned north and went up through middle rd but it was just as inviting to head east to elsthorpe - must do that one day
other pics are from route 50 on the way back today, was a relatively quick run back, especially when an amusing chap had delusions about which was quicker, his ford or my suzuki....suffice it to say he is no longer confused....

Yes that road is one of our favorites. Heading to Elsthorpe from Patangata is really nice. Going from Elsthorpe to Havelock can be unforgiving so a word of cautuion. Few bumps, holes and loose gravel on some areas of the road at this time.
Nice pics and great weather.

Plan has been created for next weekend but ONLY IF THE WEATHER IS MINT.
Will be joining the ride but not in my usual fashion. Will be cruising along around the back quietly 2up. Bobbie doesnt like rain/shit weather so if it is at all doggy weather we will be taking the car.
We will hop off the ride in wellington as we are staying there the weekend.
Should be interesting and hoping for good weather.

nah not so bad down this way, part of it was resealed about 3-4 months ago so other than a bit of loose chip should be pretty good, other than normal NZ back road goodies, odd bit of moss, dirt and cow crap

im just having a look at the map now, woodville is just next door to the meet place at ashurst yes? (mobil garage?)
and meet time is 10;00?
ashhurst is about another 10mins past woodville - definitely worth the extra time if you haven't been through the gorge before, its a good little bit of road (except for the traffic) - but then you can shoot back over the saddle road with us too, its a nice twisty section as well....

Hey wot time we meeting to set off to shannon and where are we meeting in
Shannon, i may have someone meeting us there on his brand new harley
last week 86, Storm and I met up at the BP on fitzherbert just near the bridge at about 8:15am, good excuse to shoot down to shannon, get the bikes warmed up and join in the ride back to ashhurst - the more km's the better
if they're leaving shannon at 9:30 we probably only need to meet at the BP at 8:30, time enough for a chat, a coffee, a nosey at meanie's new beast, gas if you want/need it, a chance for 86 to shine the muffler on the daytona:dodge: and then we can shoot through to shannon....all welcome of course unless you'd rather get another hour in bed and meet at ashhurst
mrs yod is 50/50 at this stage, she has a bit of a bung knee so will decide later in the week....
so, see you at the BP, somewhere around 8:15-30am....

Fortunately I am not directionally challenged! Most of the time I can tell if the bike is going forwards, backwards, left or even right. It is following a predetermined route I have trouble with.
