I might tape some plastic to my knees and have a go
I just need to find a good place for my feet!
Just go up on the balls of your feet on the pegs, and lean WAY off. I've gotten pretty close a couple of times, but my knees are buggered from old injuries, so couldnt quite reach the ground. Wasnt actually tryin, just noticed how close i got to the ground at one stage and went :shit:
Better tape some coasters to my knees eh? :shifty:

actually I had sucess with toes on the pags and leaning right off on the twisties going to the lookout. I'd say toes on pegs is easier than balls on the pegs.
I will be keen to film your attempt choco :corn:

No I ment my bigger bike after I get my full - a 600cc or a 650cc. Was not refering to the hyo. I was thinking buying a gn after my 600 and doing a tour of the south on that too :)
P.S. With tents and everything :D

You have to have had your 6R for 6 months and then you can do it.
Talk to your local friends at the AA to find out more. Costs about $150 it think and its 4 days of two hour theory and one day of practical (two hours?)
I have been told by some that there isnt actually a 'riding' one: that you learn the riding theory but do the practical bit in a cage (:nono:)
If you know more than me please correct me :bleh:

Dyed leather and rain doesn't mix I guess... I had my blue and black leather jacket on in the rain once with a white t-shirt underneath, when I got home the t-shirt had blue patches on it! And did you see the guy on the NSR? Mark, was it? In Tauranga he took off his jacket and there were coloured patches on his t-shirt from his Quasimoto leather jacket.

You have to stop in Whangamomona, Between Tamaruni and Stratford.
There is a pub there that surve great burgers and chips. All bike riders from everywhere go and meet there. I went there on Friday with 2 of my bike rideing mates.
There is 12km of unsealed roads there on the lost HW 43, but its more like hard smoth clay. So still quite fast. When we were there, there was anywhere from 20 to 50 other bikes. The people there were all nice, Not hard core bikey gangs or anything. A RX7 trike even turned up well we where there.:gob:
Hope you have a great time

Sounds like a good spot alright!
How would you rate the ride-ability of the lost hway? i've heard many bikers talk about it as an adventure within itself, and not something to be taken on lightly. Things may have changed since then tho.
Have you ridden the whole route there much?

Yeah, but they're pretty av... Have driven that in the cage a few times for work. The roads themselves are good enough reason to do bits of that road tho

Speedo breaks and now my gloves die!
I'm tempted to go into Cycletreads and have a good ol' complain! Only had them 6 or 7 months and they fall apart after going through some rain (not light drizzle as usual).
thats crap dude. gloves do wear out, but its worth a try going back an complainin. :spanking:

They have been falling apart for a while now (in between the fingers) but in a bin they probably would have held together as it was mainly the stitching: after riding back from whakatane the leather actually started to come apart! They would have done nothing in a crash and that is whats worrying me.
in that case, I would take them back. your hands are the first thing that hit the ground, so gloves are pretty important.

Damn dude, those are real leather? that's a bit of a worry.
My textile gloves wore through in only 4 months of riding. That was a LOT of k's tho, and those grips on the ginny are quite rough on gloves.
I just splashed out on some Spidi H2Outs, full leather 100% waterproof, so hoping they will last a LOT better. (fark they better for what they set me back!)
If you are planning to buy a new pair of gloves, NEVER buy NEO gloves. They'll smell bad after a wet ride. Trust me lol
I washed them 5 times now (2 in a row once) and its still the same.
How does it smells like? Well.... like an artificial crap*

Dude you need to go to lifestile imports.
Bought my gloves from there. Done 21 000km in them in all kinds of weather , including poring rain and steaaming heat. had my off with them and they kept my hands completely intact during the low slide.

Which gloves are yours? The Summer or Winter gloves?
That's the dude that we were going to go to on our "Raglan" ride eh? Except he wasn't open... Too bad cos his back protector (the one you have?) is the cheapest I've seen around, and I'm considering a back protector...

Popped into cycletreads today to tell them about my gloves and HURRAY! They are still under warranty :D
Downside is that to claim on the warranty they need to send them back to the importers so I'll be gloveless :pinch: might go to Lifestyle Imports and have a wee squiz at there leather winter gloves on the weekend (Anyone keen? I have no idea where the place is) and then give the gloves to cycletreads to send them off.

A KBer rode the Forgotten Highway back in March, it sounds like fun!
So headed off up to Stratford with Dad and Brother, gassed up, and headed for the hills..... The Forgotten Highway is an absolute stunner of a road. 35k corner after 35k corner. Hardly any other traffic, and of course the famous 15k left hander, all which were well enjoyed!
Came safely out the other side, after a few stops to let the old man on his Suzuki GS catch up, was hard work, definitely up for a meal or 2 by the time we got to Taumarunui, but the Triumph was in fantastic form. I very highly recommend this road if you get the chance. Just make sure to keep left as many of the locals cut corners.
Strange road the FH to Whanga and further, more so when as you say keep left on corners, you come round a right hander heading from Stratford you meet two ladies on horseback, thank god for quiet farm hacks and slow corners.
Hate that 15km corner lol,you sort of think yeah right, take it at 30km,but nope.
