this recession ain't over yet......
For a good long while we have been immune in Wanaka however with the Kawarua Falls Project being put into management this has cast a cloud over central otago.
This is an $880,000,000.00 m (Eight Hundred And Eighty Million) dollar build and with FF&E will be $1.2b complete, we have done a lot of work on this which has now stopped for the moment, the problem is the OVERSEAS banks etc, the kiwi end of the stick has been held high.
Anyway, if the receivers let this fold it will be a NZ problem not a central otago problem simply because of the magnitude and scale of the project.
I believe it will be all good and stage one is financed complete and stage 2 is looking good and thus the further stages as well.
For me I have had a bit more time to continue building our motorhome which is cool, never a dull moment here, would like to have been riding more however the last coupla weeks have be dismally cold.
So, cheer up, chin up and go riding, we still live in one of the most beautiful playground in the world.

Thats crap and I'd be having ago at them about it. If you are prepared to move then it is no business of theirs where you are currently located. The only thing would be if you were going to hit them up for relocation costs but surely it would be worth talking to the most skill candidate and negotiating this. I dont know the situation but you might not even be worried about this and they may have just turned away the best man for the job because of an assumption. Wankers!

he said he thinks now you apply and they will ask where you want to work and they send application to that area.
he said keep harrassing them for work, as they employ all year round and quite a few leave due toi them not handling shift work.
the trucks will start getting very busy now picking up milk as farms start getting into calving.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well we had a lot more than we ever expected the first 20 or so went to file 13 as they had no experience at all or some of the following, ie one, 74 year old guy, an operator from UK, even Saudi Arabia
However from the other 80 or so applications I will admit you were looked at on more than one occasion, but because of being so far away we were a little nervous that had we expected you to move up here and then the down turn hit again we would be leaving you in the lurch. It has worked out that Steve’s younger brother who owns one of the machines has decided to come back and operate it himself.
We have taken on an operator for our other machine but he is aware that it is on a casual when needed for that machine, yet hopefully turn into full time.
Joe, we haven’t binned you yet and will hold your info. Should things not work out we can give you a call and if your interested take it from there.
Kind Regards
Barbara Thorner

There are a few jobs around here but one thing I notice is they are mostly managment and / or sales jobs. Ie companies either cutting the deadwood to try and get things going with more motivated staff, or people leaving because there is no money to be earnt or owner's expectations are too high of a business (ie getting desperate and demanding performance).
The business I'm in will be up for sale soon. I'm fortunate enough to have a Plan B and will be calling on it very shortly. Lucky in some regards as it means we will be keeping the house (very proud of my house I am!) but will mean living away from the family mon-fri...and commuting to the North Island. Maybe Mr Key could ditch the cycle way and build a cookstraight bridge so I could ride to work...anyone up for a petition?

As an employer of three, self employed for nine years, been in the financial side of building/construction/development for 23 years I have seen the good and bad and yes the recession has taken a toll however on a global scale NZ has stood up very well indeed.

But have had a +ve interview with an MD and a subsequent +ve interview with the tech team I'll be in, with a follow-up with the MD later this week to talk turkey. Seems they like my unusual hybrid skills, both development and infrastructure; most ppl are very firmly only one or the other.
The recession is all but over men, I firmly believe we are not far from the exit gate, we have been very busy with only a small quiet patch.
Don't get despondent, get enthused and cherish your time out to de-stress, sleep in, stay up late, ride that adventure bike etc. Bwahahahahah! Dunno what you're on, but I wish you'd pass it around. Everything I'm reading says we haven't bottomed yet and we're 12+ months away from recovery. Although I'm seeing conflicting opinions with some saying NZ is suffering worse than the ROW, others saying NZ is insulated from the worst. Which reminds me:
If the economists predicted the weather, and the meteorologists predicted the economy, they couldn't get it any more wrong.
Lets see, between being a full-time dad, starting my own consulting business and looking for full-time work, I've got lots of time to sleep in, stay up late, go riding, etc etc... Tui moment.

The recession is all but over men, I firmly believe we are not far from the exit gate........
If you read any of the independent financial analyst newsletters or public articles, I think you would be having a very different conclusion! These are the people who correctly predicted the financial predicament we now find ourselves in way before the mainstream press ever saw it coming or any of those boneheads on CNBC! I have followed certain of them for over 10 years and they are very very good at what they do. I never seen them be late with their conclusions although they are sometimes slightly early and none of them are saying we're anywhere near the end of this worldwide recession! I do however believe NZ is placed better than some others to weather the financial storm in certain aspects and in a worst case scenario of a complete meltdown NZ is actually well placed to be pretty darn self-sufficient if it had to be! So whilst I disagree with you, I most definitely would rather be here than in the US, Uk or europe for darn sure!
We shall go on to the end, we shall ride in nelson, we shall ride on the hills and the valleys, we shall ride with growing confidence and growing strength on the mud, we shall defend our Islands from the aussys, whatever the cost , we shall ride on the beaches, we shall ride on the mountains, we shall ride in the fields and in the streets, we shall ride in the snow; we shall never surrender, and even if, which I do not for a moment believe, these Islands or a large part of them were subjugated and starving, then our Empire beyond the seas, armed and guarded by the adventure riders Fleet, would carry on the struggle, until,we run out of gas, the New World, with all its power and might, steps forth to the rescue us from the Recession. We shall never surrender.

Bwahahahahah! Dunno what you're on, but I wish you'd pass it around.
Take it .. it is yours, it is only positive thinking and looking forward, yes there is still some sludge to get through but it will only be a returning an out of balance situation which is essential.
If you read any of the independent financial analyst newsletters or public articles.

I do and
I don't
The longer people talk it up the longer it will be here, simple.
Like in the financial newsletters etc have said it is bringing back to reality what has been wrongfully pumped up by none other than ourselves, sooner we look at what we are doing, change and go forward the better off we will be.
I am not saying anything different from these guys other than I choose to take a better approach, I ain't selling anything here nor am I religious thinking God will help.
Anyway, choose your train it is up to you, I am not trying to convince you either way.
Through my own effort, good management and want to get on with life I know that my input has made a huge difference to our circumstances both financially and personally, I measure success by happiness, some people measure it by what you have, a good mix will go a long way.

Monstaman, your probably a great guy, and I wish the best. But the way you are wording your comments, it's sounds like that those who have lost their jobs, and are struggling to find further work, are either quitters/losers, or useless.
I have met quite a few of these chaps, and I can say that they do not fall into those groups.
Some of us are just taking a break, some are looking for new employment and are finding it hard.
Some disagree with your views.
(as for recovery, the reports for commercial property growth, and investment is down the toilet, and if people continue to throw money at resdential "investment" then we will really be up the creek. But since you are in property/land, then you would push the growth barrow. Fatal mistake for NZ. Should be investing in manufacturing, rural and tech/science, but NZ's love affair with 50year old houses shows how naieve we are. MHO)
Must go for a ride.

No, I have not called anyone a quitter or looser and I am not going too but I do feel a big negativity coming out which won't help anyones circumstances.
I feel for anyone who has lost their job make no mistake on that but people need to stay focused as well, JMJ is going hard on applications so full cred for that.
My wife and I are not wealthy either but we are doing ok for ourselves however we still need to stay focused too so I am in effect I am no different to anyone here accept those with spare cash to blow.
As for me and the 50 year old houses and growth barrow you couldn't be more wrong.
Anyway, my posts are purely to say don't give up and don't look back, I am not nailing anyone and I am not going too.

Western Australia has just signed a $50 billion deal to supply China with LNG over the next 10years.
The Gorgon gas field will be developed off Barrow Island (50km off shore of nth west)
The accomodation camp will cost 500 million alone.
Other fields are gearing up off Karratha to accomodate a massive shortfall in energy demand.
Like to earn big bucks?
Adv ride on your weeks off?
Skill up, base a bike at Karratha and enjoy.

Pannier racks & bags.

Has the jetting been played with at all?
It should have been for that pipe.
Otherwise you need a dynojet kit.
The only way to stop the popping on a DR650 is with a pumper carb with air cut valve (FCR39 off a YFZ450 quad).

Joe don't be in too much of a rush to get a big heavy bike like the KTM. It won't go places as easily as the DR but may be a better road bike if you're more into heading that way rather than the rough trails.

Yeah well, the downturn set us up for a fall, had to close our shop, sold our house and saddly just sold the Beemers, 06 K1200RS of my wifes, and my Baby, 04 R1200GS. Lasted about 2 weeks and went out in a fit of pique and bought the LC. Rode it back to Welly from Auckland, surprisingly OK. Now using it to commute, 100km a day. Makes every trip into a tarmac enduro of sorts so i guess I am getting it for free! Paekok hill option on the way to work makes it hard to actually turn toward work but.

If you read any of the independent financial analyst newsletters or public articles.
Monstaman, your probably a great guy, and I wish the best.

What makes you think that ?
Dont want to rain on your parade monstaman but the world is headed into a recession the likes of which we have never seen , and things have just begun :shit:
totally disagree, but hope you are correct...
Recession almost over .... that would make a good Tui Add YEAH RIGHT
So guys, any of you following the vital signs of the markets, dollar, interest rates, bank forecasts, journals etc and finally the news tonight.
Back in July we had this discussion were I was conclusively wrong according to the above, JMJ and others have now found work and the exit gate for the recession is closer.
Make no mistake their is still some poo to plough but the future is looking better and sooner.
I wish all our KB's who have fallen on bad timed the best and now we have some more positive signs of good things to come. :Punk: :Punk:
This is great news all round.

That is a bugga mate, stick with it as it will get better but I agree that now would be good.
We have had our quieter times as well but things are looking positive which is cool, we are still way ahead of the rest of the world in general especially Iceland and Ireland.

Dont get too excited about it and keep that money in your pockets , you may still need it to survive on .
Although it is good to see a a little positive indication there will be very few exporters who can make ends meet while the exchange rate remains so high.
In my industry we were struggling to make ends meet last season and are looking at even further reduced payouts this season.
However its more about the riding than the recession though ,and I had a cool ride round the district today , only cost a couple of litres of fuel :niceone: and I certainly wasnt thinking about the recession

Yeah.. gotta watch it a bit..... the redback is a bit shy..i think..
will only bite cha if you stand on it.. or its in your sock. or something.

had a few snakes about the place.......normallly they get of your way.
one of the worst things here .. is a tick...
i have had 2 on me.....not very big things.. but they stick like a leach.
dont like meths being poured on them.
cant pull them off.. they leave there tail under your skin.

Yeah.. gotta watch it a bit..... the redback is a bit shy..i think..Ya bunch of pansies... HTFU! Geez, anyone would think there's critters that'd kill you with a vicious stare
Redbacks will kill you in 8 hours, like a red-bellied black snake or a tiger snake. Funnel-webs will get you in 2 hours - don't f#ck around with those bitches!! On land, that's about all that will do you in, in a hurry. Everything else is either harmless, scary, make you sick, or merely irritating; or some combination thereof! The poison travels underneath the skin, so first aid is to pressure-wrap with a wide bandage the bite site 3x wraps, then down to the extremities of the limb, and as far back up as you can. And immobilise the limb and preferably body.
The general rule of thumb is: don't go sticking hands and feet in places you can't see. ie don't pick up rocks, logs, or stuff left lying the shed, except by holding the area you can see... and the longer it's left undisturbed, the more critters will be lurking on the dark side ready to race around to your side when you disturb it. Don't go kicking through long dry grass... snakes love the warmth and hate being rudely awoken from their beauty sleep.
Ticks can be removed by gently sliding a sharp knife along your skin under their body... they'll wiggle themselves out. btw it's the biting end that goes in to you. Leaches are best left till they drink their fill, inject the coagulant, and drop off (cause they start with an anti-coagulant so if removed sooner you'll bleed for ages and ages).
