phoenixgtr
2nd June 2009, 22:23
Got the oil Mr Wild? Can't be too hard. Going to bring that tyre?
McWild
2nd June 2009, 22:44
I will if I can figure out a way to carry it haha.
phoenixgtr
2nd June 2009, 23:03
Around your waist like a hula hoop. A whole new meaning to "I'm carrying a spare tyre"
Mind if I tag along? I havn't made any social contacts with human beings recently.
Nope, still no bike. I'll walk.
phoenixgtr
2nd June 2009, 23:22
Where do you live? Got a helmet? You could be pillioned
I'll be coming from town (CPIT) so it's only a bus stop away (or 20-30 min walk). Thanks for the offer tho, alas still I am a heavy bloke!

3rd June 2009, 08:27
Hey all
What time do you finish up and head off to the pub? Would be keen to:
A) Meet you all
B) Actually do some maintenance.
The only prob I have is I am at League training till 730. So is that too late for maintenance session?
phoenixgtr
3rd June 2009, 08:30
7.30 - 8 is usually about when everyone gives up and heads to the pub. In saying that last week it was 8.30, huh Shrek :bash:
rosie631
3rd June 2009, 08:38
Just noticed first post says twisted hop but it's Speights on Bealey Ave now isn't it? Just to clarify for anyone that's meeting afterwards at the pub.
phoenixgtr
3rd June 2009, 08:52
Well some of us still want to go to the Twisted Hop but others aren't keen so we seem to keep ending up at the Bealey Speights Ale House. Personally I'd like to try a few different places rather than go to the same pub every week
laRIKin
3rd June 2009, 09:32
I think or thought that this week we were going to a fish and chip bar in town
I have forgotten the name of the place.
But WOFmans has jacked up cheaper meals and drinks for us as they want a regular group of people to turn up every week to fill in their quite night mid week.
And I think they have a room up stairs we can use.
CALLING WOFMAN, COME IN WOFMAN:done:

Ah good luck. It was nice to meet you before you go. Btw I like your nickname, it's very... fitting.
Thanks everyone for tonight, free food and all. It was very nice to finally meet some Chch Kiwi Bikers (about time!). Everyone's very cool!
Gosh I better get a bigger bike soon. Tonight's chat about this ride, that ride, here and there was very teasing.

4th June 2009, 09:12
We have the opportunity to hold basic maintenance evenings in a fully equiped workshop. We ran these for the first time last year and they we're well received. This is a good chance to learn a bit about the mechanics of bikes and the maintenance of them. If you have something specific that you need done on your bike, but don't want to tackle it yourself then bring it along. If you post up on here beforehand we can be prepared on the night.
These really are just an excuse for us to get together and have few beers (or bourbons), so we usually head to the pub afterwards.
Where: Gloucester Motor Company
Cnr Gloucester Street & Fitzgerald Avenue
When: From 6pm each Wednesday (we usually give up and head to the pub (either The Twisted Hop, Poplar Lane or the Speights Ale House, Bealey Ave) around 8pm).
A huge thanks to Wayne (Wofman) for letting us use his workshop for these!!
What a fantastic Idea - shame I am so far away.... (not that I have problems, but good learning time) :niceone:

Sometime this Wednesday I will be going out to Burnham to pick up a new FXR for Sexy Lexy and no doubt she will want to show it off to you guys.
I remember when I got my first bike (and my second and third) and all I wanted to do was show it off. Heady times indeed.

But knew that they were really trying to help me and keep me alive.

Ok I will, but you are taking the wheel on and off the bike.
And I'll show you how to change a tire with levers.
Do you what me to bring a rear bike stand, Been_There?
I have one I used on my 03 Daytona and 08 Sprint, so should fit.
I guess yours is a SSWA model or is a normal swing arm?
I have one of them as well.
May as well bring the lot as Dave my needed one of my front ones for his bike, if we change his front tire.

Is this still correct?
Do you guys have the patience and kindness to teach a noob some basic skills?
I've had my Suzuki NZ250 for about two months, and I'm currently experiencing some electrical woes (battery not charging properly, and, as of this morning, starter not wanting to go, either).
Aside from that, I'm pretty much completely new to bike maintenance in general, so a basic education would be astoundingly helpful.
Is there a cost for these meet-ups, or are they someone's expression of love for the motorbike/kiwibiker set?
Cheers.

The details are correct, the charge is bring a attitude of wanting to learn as folks will help you but are not there to do the job for you, as for patience and kindness thats what these evenings are all about :)
Now on to your issues, have you any idea how old the battery is? 2-3 years is normal depending on the make and maintenance, 5 is achievable with care and diligence, a faulty battery will not hold a charge or charge correctly, and of curse will lead to starting issues.

I started a thread about it here (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=104755).
The battery was replaced a few weeks ago, and, checking it with the multimeter, I don't think it's the issue, but as I admitted above, I'm a noob when it comes to this stuff.

Will definitely try and visit next week. I start work at 9pm that night so I shouldnt have a problem as long as I can get myself out of bed in time (im really good in bed, I can sleep all day...).
Then Im all set for the next 30 days, I really have no excuse not to turn up for the next 4 weeks.
Good times.

hey peeps, my chain has some rust going on (i keep it sprayed so i dunno how it's happened)
is it possible to clean off? it's only surface rust (wipes off with the finger) but i figure the chain is probably due for a change anyway (last time it was changed was a good 15,000kms ago)
sprockets look fine, no tipping or anything.

It must be wedensday!
seems the magic rubs off you guys when your minds are all set as one.
I have recently changed the engine in Xsessive. But for swearing cussing and tools trown around the shed, she would not run.
Tonight I got home, and the wind had blown the door open on the shed.
I took it as an omen, tried once more to fire the ole girl up.
I had not tried for two weeks,
Primed the carbs,
Pulled out the choke.
Hit the starter......nothing....fuuk!
So with nothing to lose, pushed the choke in and tried again.
Chough Chough, splutter, Bang!
A back fire!
Checked plug firing order, 1324, nope thats wrong 1432, mmmm.
Hit the starter again. Vrooooom!!! YeeHaaa!
Well, it winds out to 9000rpm sweet as...
No splutter or flat spots......Vrooommmmm!
Didnt know the road to Scargill had so much pea shingle on it in the corners.
Wooo Hooo, bit of correction, a bum clenching moment,
yeah shes runing sweet as
Now just got to get the speedo working, WOF and set for the summer!
Roll on long summer nights, a tank of gass, and the open road.
Looks like I may have to keep an eye open for you guys changing to Wed Night rides soon, especially when you come out my way.
Have fun and get those rides sorted peoples...riding times here again
