Bike servicing, rebuilding, restoring, manuals, etc..
Its at this point in time, I am pausing to effect a small reflection of my zeal for two wheels of freedom. The CB919 aka 900 Hornet aka Big ol'Hornet has helped layer another patina of rose coloured experiences to my life. I well remember the anticipation and petulant way I acted at Botany Honda, demanding from Richard that my bike shall be ready and on road for the next day! Ah the halcyon day when I rode it down to Wellington and back for its maiden journey, a small ...
Well I decided to take the plunge and start doing simple servicing on my bike, a Honda CBR600. The first step was laying my hands on a service manual. This tells you what needs to be done when. The Honda manual also identified stuff by difficulty, so I've decided I'm going to start doing the basic stuff, and only use a bike mechanic for those difficult jobs, or those jobs requiring expensive specialist tools. So this weekend I set about changing the oil and oil filter. ...
Bumped into MarkW at the Avondale shops yesterday. Was a perfect day for a long ride, but both of us were just running errands. I asked Mark to remind me how to determine the optimum tyre pressure for my bike. Here's the formula (so I always know where to find it): Fill tyres up when coldGo for a long ride to warm tyres (at least 20 - 30 mins at motorway speeds)Re-check the pressure when the tyres are hot (using the same gauge)The difference ...

Finished mounting the engine on Ikasu and she's a she's purring like a pussy. I ended up with the bike drained of her life's juices and upside down on a work bench since my last post. As I started welding mounts in place my mig tip decided to become part of the weld. I also managed to re-run the exhaust as so it now doesn't interfere with the rear break. I'm probably going to change the rear sprocket to much larger one given Kaitohe is apparently quite ...
Got IKasu off the stand and mobile and she's abit wild at the moment. The engine isn't quite lined up with back wheel so he (new) chain is taking abit of a beating at the moment. Hopefully all I'll need to do is move a whole lot of washes around to fix the problem. It was nice to have her out and mobile though.
I took my daughters on the front and back of my bucket last weekend, much to their delight and horror. The older one just about shat her pants to start off the first time she let out the clutch (well with me really operating it) but once she realised she wasn't going to die at 5kph she started to get into it. My younger one is really starting to get into the mind set of a speed demon. For her birthday I got her a pocket trail bike and once it had a set of training wheels she was off. Even got into ...
