Boring stuff about your boring life.

  1. Daytona charging issues

Problems with the charging system on the Triumph Daytona 955i and Speed Triples 2002 onwards.

I ended up after 3 weeks of owning my bike (with 9000kms) that the rectifier shit itself. Luckily I brought the bike from a shop who then replaced (FOC) with a new rectifier and battery as that was also toast.

Once my bike was back from the shop it was happily starting with no issues…Until winter set in!!!
I hadn’t been told about having to cold start the bike (ie prime ...

  2. My Butt Hurts!

I’m not sure what came first, the ride-plan or the excuses for the ride, but Steve & I arranged a ride for today that would fulfill several requirements. We needed a pre-GC ride that would include a bit of night riding, we needed to check a couple of sections of the Capital Cruise to be run in November and we wanted to revisit the outstanding road that runs around the Kawhia Harbour from Piopio to Te Kawa. This road was a section of last years Grand Challenge and I remembered having a blast on it ...

  3. Pre GC Rides…I need some!

It was my intention to go for a decent (1000 – 1100km) pre-GC ride today, starting between midnight and 0100 to get a bit of night riding in, then explore a few roads up in the Waikato, but as it transpired, events and the weather worked against me so I just ended up going for a local ride.

It was a great day when I got up shortly after 0800 with bright sunshine inspiring me to remove the liner from my jacket and after a light snack I departed to stop by the office at 0930. From there ...

  4. 2008 Suzuki Bandit GSF650 SK7 vs GSF1250 SK7

Well last week a guy at work mentioned he wanted an 'as new' original tail section to replace the tail tidy on his GSF1250... It just happened that I was looking for a tail tidy for my GSF650.

Long story short we paired the bikes up in the work garage at lunch time, with rulers and sharp eyes we measured and compared the bikes. A as fate would have it there are no physical components that are different including the frame and sub structure that would have ...
  5. Is It Spring Yet??

The usual winter blues have been prevalent this year but compounded by an effort to cut back on spending and the easiest way to save money is to cut down on the Kms. This hasn’t been too hard because the weather has been so crappy and I’ve been so busy at work, it’s been pretty easy to not ride, other than the Ulysses Club Rides.

I have found however that one can get a bit stir-crazy and in desperate need of a blowout and that happened last weekend. There were no programmed rides ...

  6. Cleaned up the exhaust

I've attacked the exhaust with a steel brush, and it's come up pretty good.

Next step will be to use a wire wheel and give it a really good clean, then sand it back to a paint finish, then it'll get a nice UHT matt black paint on it.

It looks to me like a 1990s vintage Cycleworks 4 into 1 in damn good nick.

I've got some new packing stuff for the 'zorst and as soon as I can work out how to get the slip cover off I'll repack it.

    Epilogue

I hope you have enjoyed reading this review of my Newbie Training Update, in as much as the entries covered the recent formative years of learning to ride my motorcycle, I hope that in part, for those who particularly know me, that the Review gave an insight to the person BuckBuck#1. And for those who have read this blogg that have not met me out there on the roads of the lower North Island of New Zealand, I hope you have found a little something to take away when next you

  8. In Review Newbie Training Update The Next 18 Months 2008/09 – Riding Maturity

by , 19th August 2009 at 13:06 (Motorcycling and An Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder (OCPD))
Over the following eighteen months there were numerous rewarding activities both out riding and here at the Kiwibiker website where I maintained several riding activity logs:

Where Did You Ride and What Did You Practice 2007
This was a regular fortnightly event: I created an inter-active participative forum whereby members would ‘write up’ their weekend riding and what they practised. From the pool of entries two were selected and copied across to the Newbie Training Update ...
