  1. In Review – Newbie Training Update & OCPD - First Off

by , 10th June 2009 at 10:17 (Motorcycling and An Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder (OCPD))
    As At 12 August
Total Distance 4035km [since 12 May]

    THE 'OFF'
Last Thursday after the Kelson and Belmont run I went to Harcourt Werry Drive carpark and had a good session practising counter steering. There were a dozen half cut tennis balls laying on the bitumen in the carpark and possibly another rider may have been using them to practise. I laid out the ball halves in a line and got into a good rhythm counter steering. Then I placed six down a line and the other six

  2. Do As I Say..Not As I Do!

At 0845 yesterday, 11 of us met up at J’ville before heading out to Porirua for Mentor Training with Andrew & Lynn Templeton of Ridesafe.

This was the first of a two day programme which is being conducted using the facilities at Whitireia, ie a classroom and a carpark, and fortunately we had another reasonably nice day for it, albeit rather chilly which wasn’t too much of a problem as most of the day was spent in the classroom. The first day focusing more on improving our individual ...

  3. Recce Ride

Apart from some commuting, I haven’t been for a ride for nearly a month thanks to the crap weather and being busy at work, but this week I suggested a route for a club ride but I hadn’t been on some of the roads and didn’t even know anything about them, so Steve and I decided a Recce Ride was required.

Fortunately we got a great day but I still decided to put the liners in my pants and wear the Spidi Gloves. That was a good idea because getting away from home a 0850, it was only 5° ...

  4. When I Take Some Time out - Music

by , 6th June 2009 at 15:49 (Motorcycling and An Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder (OCPD))
The last few years I have enjoyed learning guitar, and last year I purchased a very good dvd/cd package, and like my riding I take my time with the series lessons.

Today I received an email from Legacy Learning Systems and there is a clever 'international' Youtube video that I want to include in this blogg:

By coincidence I recently purchased Hal Leonard's 'Easy Pop Melodies' and the song in ...

  5. In Review – Newbie Training Update & OCPD August 2006 [Bike Maintenance Course]

by , 4th June 2009 at 12:09 (Motorcycling and An Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder (OCPD))
Since doing the bike maintenance course, I have owned four bikes three of which were new and under warranty. My current bike CB900 Hornet, is approaching the end of the two year warranty period in August and is maintained by the Honda dealership (Motomart Lower Hutt) at the correct service intervals.

The Hornet is a dry weather bike and used for recreation riding only. I ensure that the chain is cleaned and lubed at least every 450-500km. Also, I have purchased a clamp device for ...

  7. In Review – Newbie Training Update & OCPD July 2006 - Part 2

by , 2nd June 2009 at 12:24 (Motorcycling and An Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder (OCPD))
Objective - With the Mentor's review completed on Sunday I proceeded to review my original training circuit in Stokes Valley for an hour and practice slow control including figure eight and u-turns. Also going up and over Holborn Drive and importantly here focusing on the left bends - I was able to appreciate my Mentor's remarks about how I was staying out quite wide unnecessarily so - I was able to find better and safer lines to take going up and over this part of the valley.

  8. In Review – Newbie Training Update & OCPD July 2006 - Part 1

by , 2nd June 2009 at 12:23 (Motorcycling and An Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder (OCPD))
This extract extends over three Parts and a OCPD review comment is contained at the end of Part 3.

Applying the 30-40-30 program this week saw new district: ventured up through Whitemans Valley out to Mangaroa and came out at SH2 Te Marua.

Heading back ducked in at Mt Marua and looked at the estate there then pulled into Supercheap Auto, got some Autosol polish. Coffee at McD's Silverstream.

Some serious practice taken up during the week at the Fraser
