Well written. A trip well rode. Quite a few milestones in that trip. Be proud of your effort. An epic journey for an L plate'r.

Take sun tan lotion (and a back-door key on the bike key-ring) next trip

So that's why we didn't run into you. Sorry to hear the reason. Glad you had a good ride - you need an adv bike...

Yeah, it is really neat how you suddenly get into conversations with random strangers about motorbikes (Quite often they tell you that they used to ride a GN ).
And yes, it was yellow. Perfect description of his bike. I knew exactly what you meant.

Thanks again for the great weekend

Mint Bike...not my first choice but then again I'm a honda fan so nothing but a honda or maybe a triumph will make me swoon.

Hope to get a ride with ya in auckland once I move up. I've only just got my L plates in late November so still quite new on the roads. Don't let that stop you from exploring though. Getting lost on a bike is much more fun then a car. i"ve done just over 5k in the last three months and I'm still urging for more.

    Cya round!

Yes it looks like there is a 24-hour Z in Kaiapoi.
So if I get to Rangiora and find it all closed up, I can detour to Kaaipoi.
    perfect - many thanks.

I too have been doing lots of route planning in MapSource to figure a route to bag lots of checkpoints. Currently looking at 2780km for the weekend with only a few gravel roads in central Otago. My route has me going through Rangiora late Saturday night and short of fuel.
