I can understand your rationale but disagree about the magical properties of it, I don't think I have ridden a bike I didn't enjoy, some of them were crap in the power stakes, some in the handling stakes but all were enjoyable and easily engaged with. I was thinking along similar-ish lines on Sunday, trail riding my 200 / 2 stroke, I liken that to dancing, the bike and my interaction is a balance of two entities, without each other it ain't going to work, and when one puts a foot wrong it becomes dancing with trees. However, I blagged a ride on a 450 / 4 stroke (I'm thinking of buying one) and it's exactly the same interaction, you have to work together to make it flow. Ok, there will need to be some adjustments to the new partners foibles but nothing that can't be learnt in a short time.
It's the same with my other bikes, they are all different buit all give me a buzz, the 200 enduro bike because it's trying to kill me, the 640 adventure bike for it's ability to slide everywhere on every surface, the BMW because its gentlemanly, sedate and old school and the bucket cause I can be Rossi for a day.
Not one of those bikes shares the handling traits / power curve or riding position of the others yet they all work for me, different aspects of each bike being better than the others but I am capable of enjoying all of them, there is no way there is "one" bike for me.

Things like cost of rego, size and just how fast you REALY want to go. As you are comming from a 650cc is the top rego bracket worth it?????? My favourite bike was a K75 BMW. When I bought it the specks were; multi cylinder, shaft drive, mid range(cc),Liquid cooled, good pilion seat and a sit up riding position. Three cylinders was a bonus , So Smooth. Smoother than the K1000 and no vibration at any rev position. Regards Richard

Very well thought, and I would agree. Unfortunately for most the only 'sense' they want to be aware of is the adrenalin rush of opening the throttle on the quickest bike, rather than feeling comfortable on it. I've got the ZZR1.1... so why does the MT-01 feel 'right' where as much as I enjoy the Zed's performance... it doesnt 'connect' the way that big lazy V twin does.

Lucky it turned out OK would be the judgement I would make. Leave the rest to someone whose job it is to handle it!

Bleah, sounds like one of those rides where it is miserable, wet and cold and going on for hours and hours!

Shades of grey, nothing black and white - unless its the hypothermia! Sounds like you dodged a couple of bullets there!

On ya! Good to see that you got past the "no good deed goes unpunished" phenomenon. Keep up the travelogue!

So sorry to hear about that and very thankful you are OK. As we all know another off that day didn't end well. We have ridden a few K's together and if this can happen to you it can easily happen to me. Food for thought! Will be intersting to hear and review lessons learnt in due course. I look forward to doing some more K's with you when repairs are effected.

    Cheers DougieNZ

That's bad luck young fulla. I'm looking at the bike in your profile picture and it doesn't look too bad. Will it be fixed in time for you to lead the ride to Apiti on Sunday? Or do you need to borrow the GS?

Was a real bugger as I returned home from Taupo on Saturday evening.

Shame about poor black, she had such potential, but the important thing is that you're relatively OK. Bikes can be replaced, but yes, a slightly shorter life than expected? From the sounds of things, it sounds like she's taken quite the knock, but insurance will have to figure out.

Contact the buyer of red and say you want her back

Well since the last entry I have rebuilt another bike and made some changes too this one.....Pics will follow soon enough once new parts arrive from overseas

Finally finding a front disc I was happy with (A 320 wave),Changed the MC19 caliper for a XR650 caliper and using a XR650 master cylinder, the front end is almost complete as in terms of how it will look, but I have Changed the drag bars for some clubman Bars, have ditched the 8" headlight for a 7" and ditched the GB instruments for a single Digital all in one 70mm unit along with sensors to plug into the old skool speedo fitting,
I was going to use CBR250 switchblocks but have now settled on using a set of Triumph Daytona switch blocks, which keeps inline with modernising the bike but still keeping that old skool style/look about it..

After settling on the speedo I wanted,I have decided to install a fuel gauge sender in the tank as for the tank too fit around the GB motor it needs to be widen so its perfect timing really,

The tail piece I got I have decided not too use it,but instead use the orignal seat base and build the tail peice from that, It will save mucking around with the frame too much and decided I didn't want a rear fender anyway....

I guess the next best thing to keeping the bike on its side is the more interesting photos you get to take?

Well it's actually a rather small puddle (which only makes it more embarrasing I still dropped it). I think one pannier got a little wet and maybe the rim in a section? Not much more
