Thought it might be the 955. Nice bike, nice noise, nice engine. Mate of mine had one for exactly the purpose you're proposing. I remember your SD from the Weds night rides. After riding around the block last weekend and hitting gales around Eketahuna I decide naked bikes and long distances did not compute so went for a more sensible option.
@ sinned - the 955 model full fairing Daytona (2003 ish) appeals to me at a core 'you beauty' level. And yes its just the servicing mate I LOVE my Ducati...just over the cost of upkeep and the number of amateur mechanics that 'try' fix em.... The 955i of that shape will tick the Sport factor as well as make a nice touring ride. Perfect compromise, and grunty enough, and stylish......... as well as its time to tick the Triumph box on my bucket list... hehehehehe And I do prefer the full fairings over the street naked look................ my KTM ticks that box

Thats why i own a wing Stoney. 2 1/2 years, almost 40k MILES. two sets of tyres and about 6 oil changes. All servicing I do myself. 21 years old and it still purs along.
wot are you saying a 955 is a better bike than the duc or is it just the cost of maintaining the duc? Why not a 1050 speedy?
I have a Super Duke myself mate you would not be unhappy with one trust me! The GSXR1100 is 20 ears old and sooo reliable.... the Super Duke runs like a dream, hard to keep wheel on the earth LOL. The Ducati...that's gonna become a 955 Speed Triple sometime later this year I swear on my garnma's tombstone! Unless ya wanna swap a trumpy for my Ducati?........ LOL
cant cycleworks do some cans?
That sounds pretty major vifferman. I kinda had the impression you were expecting more of a recovery by now. Things still sound a little bad. Maybe try some things to stimulate your mind. Cross words, reading, porn, board games, etc. Might take your mind off the recovery.
What kind of a Daytona are you looking at Stoney? I came within a whisker of buying a Superduke last week. In fact if the dealer had been prepared to dicker even a little he'd have had a sale... but he wasn't so he didn't.

In my mouth's mixed-up world, sweet=sour, salty= VERY salty, sour=metallic, and anything with a combination of flavours does my head in. Bland food is OK (apart from making me want to spit it out) as it just tastes slightly metallic. I can sometimes get the real tastes of things, then after 3 seconds, TasteInsanity kicks in. Oh - and my sense of smell is hypersensitive: tissues smell really woody, the smell of some food is overpowering. I'm checking out each day what things taste like. I've tried low-alcohol beer, and that was just slightly metallic, but wine just about blew me away; I could taste the alcohol REALLY strongly, and the complex flavours were overpowering. Luckily, I'm not supposed to drink alcohol.
Relax, dude, plenty of time to find a new job later. One involving stuff you like doing. With people you like. In the meantime make the most of your time off eh?
Good to see you're still with us Viffer, I can sympathise (in my own little way) with the recovery time, since I turned 50 every ailment seems to take forever to get over......I'm not sure I would cope as well as you are with having some plumbers apprentice poking around in my chest. If you're desperate for reading material I have a few motorcycling books that may be interesting, flick me a PM. DAytonna..............mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.....now u talking.
chin up mate...on a much much lesser scale i am recovering from a ruptured achilles, progress seems painfully slow(its not painfull at all actually) but all the people involved say i am making good progress!
ducati's have there idiosyncrasies but the agents are (normally) on to it, all be it at a price !
I really think you are right. Been wrestling with the idea even though is goes against my idea of quality fittings, so many seem to have done it. The scorpion I had on my VFR had a nice sound. Not too loud but still a nice tone. Thanks man good to hear thoughts on the matter. I talked to Damon at Cycleworks who suggested gutting and rebuilding the stock items, which seems more appealing but I still lose the stock pipes if I ever want to revert back so will just wait till I can pick up some decent cans.
Finding the perfect bike mechanic is a hard road ...
IMHO, a bafflectomy is a dumb idea. Not only will it not sound that great (it's very loud), but it won't improve performance, you may have trouble getting a WOF, and if so, you won't have the standard mufflers to go back to. Save your pennies and do it right. My VTR had had this done, and it was crap.

North Shore Hospital is a bit of a horror story really. I spent 8 days in that short stay place, the last night in the outpatients clinic room at the very end of the corridor. The best bit about there was creeping my way to the toilet, dressed in one of them sexy gown arrangements, looking and feeling utter crap, and in a very unwell state was hearing "Hello Anne" from a Warkworth business man who was attending the outpatients clinic at the end of the corridor. Sharing the bathrooms with an outpatients clinic is beyond the pale really.
