Trini was sitting waiting for a part to turn up from the UK because the muppets had lost a spacer in the rear wheel but rode her anyway, stuffing the bearings and seals. So I shot in to see Kat at Hamilton Motorcycles and ordered that along with the front sprocket cover (muppets again). Two and a bit weeks later they turned up so I gave Brent a holler. I shot around and picked him up after we rounded up a few tools . We shot around to where Trini lives and got into it. First ...

For those of you that know me, my riding history is short as I commenced riding as recently as May 2006. Shortly after starting to ride there was a monumental mind shift in my attitude when my mentor of six months was killed riding his motorcycle. Over the recent years The Wednesday Night Cruisie Ride has changed and so I pray that his legacy can in some way continue. At last night’s TCWNR (10 Feb 2010) there was a small gathering and generally all were experienced ...
The weekend started with a burning tree. Usually when one sees a tree on fire it is a good indication that you should run and hide, lest a giant finger appear from the heavens and decide to smite you too. I mean, if a harmless tree can incur that sort of wrath, who knows what might be heading your way. We didn’t run. The intrigue of smoke combined with the Autobahn’s supplies of underground petrol was too good a spectacle to miss! Luckily the service station attendants were well trained at dealing ...
Time to drive. The plan was to go straight up to Waiheke Island, meet my friend the vet specialist and spend a few days and then slowly wind my way south back to Wellington. I had listed both the ute and the V Strom for sale on trademe. I figured if one sold, I’d unlist the other and finish my time in NZ with the remainder, secretly hoping to finish the trip as I started on the bike…..I couldn’t take both bike and ute…easily. Now in the States, I’d consider even a short car road ...
Rode the East Cape in one wonderful day from Ohope to Napier around via the East Cape light house...what a day. Best part by far was between Opotiki and Waihau...it was just me and my bike alone on the road sweeping around great curves beside the rugged ocean side. Saw my first Marlin weighing in at 149 kg....damn thing was HUGE!! A sweet biker friend of a mate of mine sorted out my indicator issue....what a gem. Hitting the road again I stopped for drinks with some great bike guys in Wellington ...
The following link was sent to me very recently by a member of my intake, the 24th Collins - July 1968 to June1969: http://www.navy.gov.au/w/images/PIAMA29.pdf After my initial 12mth period I was selected to remain behind for officer pre-requisite studies. I wanted to be a navy pilot, well all teenagers did - didn't they...unfortunately my vision was not up to standard and this made me ineligible for Seaman Officer training as well, couldn't wear glasses on the bridge ...
Halogen is the type of bulb technology - changes the gas & glass so that "stuff" that boils off the filament re-condenses back onto it most of the time - hence can have hotter filament (brighter/whiter) and no "gone dim from silver inside" problems. Easyish to tell if bulb is halogen: - will usually be cylindrical (gas is under pressure) - will be lots of warnings to not touch glass with fingers - (fingerprints can etch/distort the glass at high operating temps & cause ...
