  2. Week 17 in Germany - 27 July 2009

    27 July 2009

So tomorrow morning I have to give up my room and the next morning I will be on my way to Spain. I can’t believe that my time in Freiburg has gone by so quickly! In fact the thought of leaving is such a distressing prospect that I have just been in the kitchen baking one last cake in order to calm myself down. Pretty sure my flatmates are going to remember me as that random chick from New Zealand who was always knocking on their doors asking to borrow a cup of sugar or ...

  3. At the 50 000km mark for Big Ol'Hornet

Its at this point in time, I am pausing to effect a small reflection of my zeal for two wheels of freedom. The CB919 aka 900 Hornet aka Big ol'Hornet has helped layer another patina of rose coloured experiences to my life.

I well remember the anticipation and petulant way I acted at Botany Honda, demanding from Richard that my bike shall be ready and on road for the next day!

Ah the halcyon day when I rode it down to Wellington and back for its maiden journey, a small ...
  4. My first time servicing a bike

Well I decided to take the plunge and start doing simple servicing on my bike, a Honda CBR600.

The first step was laying my hands on a service manual. This tells you what needs to be done when. The Honda manual also identified stuff by difficulty, so I've decided I'm going to start doing the basic stuff, and only use a bike mechanic for those difficult jobs, or those jobs requiring expensive specialist tools.

So this weekend I set about changing the oil and oil filter. ...
  5. Woohoo

I haven't been posting much in the blog as I have been with riding pillion with some of the fine men and women (?) from Chch. I've had a blast doing it as well but I think it's time to take the next step....

    ride for myself!!!

So today saw me on a dirt track with WOFman and LongWheely and I had a blast!!! At first I was sh&tting myself. I had no idea how I would be on the bike but you know what I eventually got the hang of it and even managed to get up some speed, ...

  6. Port Waikato

I went for a ride from the North Shore of Auckland out to Port Waikato today, for no other reason than I haven't been to Port Waikato before.
Port Waikato is at the head of the Waikato river in the Franklin district on the West Coast.

Although a little cool the weather was perfect. The initial trip out on the motorway was your normal motorway trip (yawn).

However the fun starts at Pokeno. The road, while not maintained to the same degree as city roads, was ...
  7. In Review – Newbie Training Update and OCPD - Full Licence –March 07

by , 25th July 2009 at 14:45 (Motorcycling and An Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder (OCPD))
In addressing my OCPD today (2009), I can look back over the period May 2006 to March 2007, and my approach to motorcycle riding.

Though some may see a 'methodical approach', for others reading between the lines of what has been written, they may see degrees of 'perfection-anxiety-caution-catastrophe-avoidance', and in my opinion that would be a reasonable evaluation.

I have now spent over three years riding and approaching 65,000km, and one observation that was made: ...

  8. Title Search performed - conversation had - looks like previous owner is okay now.

Well, after the debacle with the trademe feedback I was a bit worried. I needed to have the letter from the previous owner in order to re-register the bike - or else get the police to declare that they had no interest in the bike.

So of course I'm spewing. It looks like this bloke's not happy about his bike being sold by his missus and he may yet decide to not write the letter - or worse - declare the bike stolen, in which case I'd be rather fucked.

    So, after a week ...
