  1. 7.5.09

    7.5.09
I've arranged the making of the removable end plates today. Priest Sheetmetals will make these as well - I could muck around with a hole cutter, jigsaw and tack weld it, but they have all the gear and will do it 10 x faster than I could in my shed.
These plates will fit into the rear of the cones recessed 15mm so they can be bolted or riveted in place. Each end-plate will have an outlet and internal collar that will slot over the muffler core holding it in position but allowing ...
  2. The ride that ate my scooter.

I booked my scooter in for its first service (500km's) and on the way to take it in realised I hadn't done the planned trip to Cambridge and the odo was 23k's short of the mark.

so I headed out towards the University thought I'd do a few laps of the car park and practice slow speed skills.

All the roads were pretty dead and I didn't feel like going slow so when I hit the intersection of knighton road and ruakura road I thought what the hell lets see how far Ruakura ...

  3. Horny Pipes

Well I've had the Hornet a year and a half and I've made a few alterations. Next on my list is mufflers. I've already 'opened' the stock mufflers to enjoy a few more decibels but my primary interest now is a different look.

It's all on a tight budget supported by a small tax return (in theory - they have not paid yet!), thus purchasing aftermarket muffs is out. And I am after something a bit different.

So phase one has been to have a pair of steel cones rolled. Dimensions ...

  4. Are these Kyrgyz kinky or what...?

The answer is or what but you will not find out till the end…

When my wife and I first arrived in Urkadurka land it was summer, temps to 45C, kids running everywhere, I got that thirsty onetime I was tempted to buy cold fermented horses milk available on every street corner …I actually wanted the somewhat more palatable sweet barley water but things got confused in the translation…Anyway as newbie’s do we headed off to for a wander around a popular market called the Dordoi bazaar. ...

  6. Looking for that next bike

After my accident last year I am finally ready to find out what would suit me as a replacement bike. My Tiger was written off and the money was recovered from the insurance.

So the bike shops have been getting a few visits to cater for my curiosity to checkout brands and models

A few weeks ago I started out with Andrew Templeton to assure that my biking prowess had not been damaged, he had me idling around on a 125cc Honda at the slowest possible speed, ...

  7. Pilgramage to the 'naki

Tomorrow I'm taking young Shaydon up to Waitara to meet a guy called Phil, a moderator from the Yahoo! James Motorcycle Forum. Who has a restored James of the same year. Really looking forward to be able to see what I will be aiming for.

I am also the proud owner of a spoke key. Exactly how I am supposed to use it I am not sure yet... time to go and see if WebBikeWorld has a put me in the right direction.
  8. I did it. Pipes on and up and running.

OMG, what a mission that was. But I DID IT! Rang up shop to get new mounting clamps (is that what they're called??) They had to order them in and I was too impatient to wait. Have managed to clean up the old ones and they look ok. Got the replacement nut I needed and put everything together this morning. The new pipes look and sound awesome IMHO. Took her out for a run and there doesn't seem to be any loss in performance either, so it's all good.
Was going to tackle the oil and filter ...
