  1. Viva Le Tour

It's been another no-ride week, which is odd as I don't feel like I'm suffering from withdrawal symptoms. I guess that's because it's been a busy week, both at work and home, going out several times and watching lots of Tour de France highlights.

Tuesday we went to the birthday celebration of a client and ended up scoring tickets to the Tall Blacks versus Venezuela 3rd test. I'm not a fan of basketball but it was a good night out. Thursday we went to two plays at Bats, 'Once were ...

  3. the first steps

So we had a Block and a lot of bits. The first thing that we had to get our head around was what the previous guy had been thinking for how every thing would go together.

There were some things that were obvious problems needing solutions and a few things that I didn't agree with that he had done in design. That happens, no one is every completely right. The main problems were getting the crank balanced, figuring out the oil flows and figuring out how to do the cam chains. Some of ...
  4. The beginning

I picked up this project part way. i can't claim to have had all of the great ideas.

The idea of a custom V-Twin engine for the formula sae car had been around for a few years in the Auckland team and an old Yamaha Vision engine was dyno’ed and played with to try and get some rough data.

A team member was dead set on the idea of a V twin, was given a bit of cash and he started developing ideas for how a v twin could work. Over a year he came up with the idea that I ...
  5. Bikes at pub.

Ended up at the pub after work tonight.
Parked outside the particular bar and locked the helmet under the seat of my smaller ride. (see profile for rides). In the same spot next to me was the bike belonging to a colleague. A Suzuki Impulse 400 from the early 80's. It's got that street fighter look, solid square section frame which sounded kool when we started up to leave.
Time at the pub saw a CBR 1000 go back and forth, must be a local bike I don't know.
    Three bikes including ...
  6. Temperature is up - spring is here!

Temp got up to 15 d.today. Got that old 'it's time for a ride' feeling. Off to get a warrent on the V-strom tomorrow, must have had tha machine for a year. How time flies! Will try the new Draggin Jeans tomorrow to increase the safety aspect. Hope the high cost is worth it!
  7. Fifth time this winter!

Went for a pre-breakfast walk and found about 100m of black ice on a decent uphill section so I left the scooter at home for the fifth time this winter. Yep, I wimped out! Still, lived to ride another day. Roll on temps above freezing!
  8. A Bit of Culture.

It's been a no-ride week so I have had to amuse myself in other ways, without resorting to gardening or tidying the garage, or cleaning the bike. Not a problem, I managed to finish three light-catchers today and I have enjoyed watching the Tour de France racing. Alexander Vinokourov continues to inspire with his never-say-die attitude whereby, despite having 60 odd stitches in his knees and elbows, he has dragged himself back into the top 10 with an outstanding performance in the 1st time trial. ...
