It's the Wacky Races. Why should bikers be excluded from it?

Yeah, dpex - it bugs me too. Even though (from the inferences and aspersions the CBR1000RRR KBer at work keeps throwing my way) the VFR is obviously ghey, old, and I'm ghey, old and slow, every biker I see on my daily communteringexpedition wants to race me. They should tell me that, by leaning forward and blipping the throttle, and giving me the nod, so I can pretend I'm joining in, then laugh as they tear off into the traffic like a dork while I just ride at whatever speed I feel like. (I usually catch up and pass them anyway: wisdom, cunning, and experience usually outweigh enthusiasm and hormones....)
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

My ego has been known to 'pass' me at times, giving me the bird as it goes by.

I'm intrigued. What gave you the impression he passed "Like he 'had' to pass"?

I know the one - desperate to get past at all costs.
It's kinda self-evident from the way they ride.

The majority of posts on this thread consist of people making assuptions about other's state of mind, intent or purpose.
Quite frankly it is just as pathetic to assume you know what another driver/rider is thinking as it would be for the guy who overtook dpex to think he "won".
Granted, there are often clues - such as racing of an engine or rocking forward at the lights.
However, I would bet that the majority of times intent is misconstrued.
For example, my old man is blind as a bat so sits inches from the car in front. This is commonly mistaken for agression, it's not, it's stupidity, combined with poor eyesight.

Read my sig, Hanlon is right.

Ergo the person with the ego problem is not the guy overtaking.

Generally I let people go first.. I mean, someone has to be the bait for the cops, and I've paid my fair share of fines.
