    Angry Fuck!

Sick of my new bike being a pig to start so decide to take it to the bike shop today (wouldnt even bump start so had to jump start it ) they tell me there's nothing they can do today, so I booked it in for next week. Riding it home on the motorway and the electrics decide to have a massive cry and the bike just dies, so i'm left to roll down the hill and park it up in the shoulder.. Decide to give it one more crack at starting and when I press the starter button my rev guage starts to move its way up but no sign of any life WTF! So manage to get my ute there and chuck it on, dropped it at the bike shop and left it with them haha
Furious I am as its my new bike and i just want it to start everyday

As a side not, in the half an hour or so I was on the side of the motorway at least a dozen bikes went past and only 1 beeped/waved/asked if I was okay (via thumbs up) which I was cos the ute was on the way, so if that was anyone on here, props to them.. and to any others on here that rode past without offering a hand hahaha

Bad. Very bad. Only one BIKER in that time The rest, were wankers. If you don't stop to help a fellow biker in distress, you're a homo wanker., End of story

to be fair.. if the traffic is heavy often you won't see a biker on the side of the motorway till it's too late... too busy dodging cagers.

Sounds like it's possessed. I'm interested to find out what was causing the rev counter to move without life from the motor. Keep me posted. Hope it's not a major.

very low compression if the starter is spinning it over enough to get the rev counter moving ! Could be valve timing all up the shit !
A girlfriend once asked " Why is it you seem to prefer to race, than spend time with me ?"
The answer was simple ! "I'll prolly get bored with racing too, once i've nailed it !"

    Bowls can wait !

Doubtful - it's more likely to be electrical. F'rinstance, when the R/R goes out, the instruments often do funny things, especially if it's the rectifier side that's failed.

Anyway, DB will be along shortly to tell you what the problem really is....
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

Yep, starter solenoid on it's way out had a similar effect on me old zr250.

Feel for you mate, I cant get my bike to start at all. Too far to push to a bike shop.... Allmost killed me trying to push it back up my drive way.
Push them to fix it ASAP.If the stall let them know you are a kiwi biker and will give bad reps if they dont fix it...
I take it you brought it from that shop
If you are behind meDont ask as I am lost too.

Well he's had it for over a month. I wouldn't be blackmailing the shop into anything! They're generally pretty busy. Book it in, they'll sort it out. Sounds like it isn't charging properly (judging by your previous posts) which points towards reg/rec as Vifferman said. Keep that new battery topped up, they dont like sitting around at a low voltage.

That happened to a friends bike. It turned out to be the battery.

Apparently the rev counter uses some electrical system, and when the power is to low it can make it errounously report that the revs are much higher than they actually are.

point 1 - a friend's new KLR has the same prob and got the same dealer support

point 2 - battery went flat on my bike so I pushed it over the new Panmure Bridge, in the process a combie van stopped to see if I needed a lift, a taxi stopped but couldn't jump start me as it would cack his meter, a biker stopped (driving his car not on his bike) and then shot home for some jump leads ...

when he got back he couldn't open his bonnet but a passing cop stopped and allowed us to use his battery

on the basis of all this I figure cage drivers aren't such a bad bunch (didn't see any bikers on bikes so can't comment on them)

and I wouldn't buy a new Kawasaki in case the electrics went

Haha cheers man, yeah my little Bandit, so frustrating haha
It's down at spectrum on Barry's Point, my old man worked with Brent years ago and both my uncle and grandfather who used to race just say take anything with two wheels to him, so yeah it's sitting down there at the moment, hopefully it's not down there too long and i'll have it back next week! I suspect it'll be sitting out in the rain today tho

    It's not rocket science.
Even though I am a feckn eejit, I do know a little about bike electrics.
The tachometer works off impulses from a sender on the camshaft or flywheel. If either the starter has a short or (more probably) the R/R is fubar, then you may be getting some A/C pulses coming though the wiring. The tachometer can't tell the difference between these and 'legitimate' pulses from the sender.
You'll also get other 'mental shit' happening if the R/R is at fault, like if the speedo is electronic, it will start playing up, and when the battery voltage drops below a critical threshold, the ignition won't get enough ergs to spark, so the engine will die.
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.
