Just wondering about licenses

I'm from the UK and transferred my UK car to an NZ car. My UK license covers a learners license for bikes as well, does anyone know if I can transfer that over? I'm hoping to get out of doing the silly test and save a few bucks although I'll still be wanting to take my BHS (there's no point getting myself killed for the sake of a few bucks!)

Which seems to imply that a learner licence may be transferred.

yeah, I've crawled their web site until I was sick of it and then fired them an email, might give them a call in the week as I doubt they'll answer very quickly!

May be easier to visit Kyrgyzstan...I have a full NZ license....and for US$300 I now have a full, life time, international license as well....

Yeah, apparently there's some African nation (I forget which one) that will make you a diplomat and give you a diplomatic passport if you give them enough money

Just got off the phone with NZTA (surprisingly helpful when you're used to dealing with the DVLA in the UK!!!) and you can transfer a provisional UK bike license into a learners license over here so long as you've held it for more than 2 years.

Apparently all you need to take into the AA shop is your existing UK license, proof of address, ID (passport etc) and you'll need to fill in a DL5 form in the shop, charge is $44.30.

Hopefully this will be useful for someone else one day as well

I was in the same situation and managed to get an exemption to sit my restricted asap as I didnt want to serve the learner period as id already ridden 2 years in the uk.

When I came to NZ I was told that unless you had a full licence for >2 years, it was worthless and you had to start again.

Apparetly you can now transfer a UK licence without doing the written multi-choice test that I had to do for both bike and car.

It's not so much the written that worries me, it's the practical! I've never ridden a bike before and they're quite happy to give me a license with no testing. I'm going to be doing the BHS off my own back as I don't fancy ending up under a truck but there are a LOT of stupid poms out there!

Having said that, most of the idiots over there are dumb enough to stay
