    eek Problem with zxr

I got a ZXR250a a litle over a week ago, and i took it for a short spin befor i payd for it and all was well.

As i dont have my licence yet i have only taken it around the block a few times after a cuple of km's it started to choke i turned it around to face downhill and started it in second gear, rode it home than when i pulled the clutch in it stalled.

Few days later i took it for another burn around the neighbourhood it was going great started easy and reved well, few k down the line however...up a steep narrow road it started to choke again, i swaped down the gear as i thought the revs mite be a bit low for the hill. It went well for another 100m and then sputered and died.
I was in a bit of a mess as i didnt have space to turn it around quicly and there was cars going past...so i had to push it uphill untill i found a drive way i could use to turn. It was sparking but wouldnt start.
Once i got it turned i pushed it out to the road (burned my leg on the exhaust) and started freeweeling down. Swaped to 2nd and started it up was going down hill slowely in second than i put the clutch in to get to 3rd and as soon as i did that the revs fell and engine turned off.
I repeted the above to get it going and than hundred meters down teh road it sputered to a stop even thought i had momentum. I gave up and pushed it home (and hit my leg on the foot peg no less than 5 times in the process)
    However it hasnt started since.

    It has oil
    and petrol
when it was running it was running well
and has good compression across all 4

any suggestions guys? Im getting my learners on friday and i want to ride

I had the same problem when my carbs crapped out..... dirty fuel might have caused your problems. My problem wasnt dirty fuel and they still cant explain it.
    Good luck though

Get a mechanic to check your carb floats levels, and while your at it get the needles checked as well, as a bent needle maybe affecting fill rates.

The floats (float bowls), hold the fuel that is pulled into the engine, if it isnt high enough or not filling the engine will not get enough fuel for detonation, It seems like that would be the problem in the case you described.

I would suggest checking yourself, but carbs can be expensive to play with.

    Good luck!

Check your battery voltage. How strong is the spark? Cleaning the carbies isnt the biggest job, but you do need to go to your kawasaki stockist and order some gaskets that go between carbies and airbox before you put it back together (they only cost like $40 tops). How old are the plugs?

    all of the above dude.
one thing i learnt from my 250 days was that they dont like to be left alone, they need to be ridden so find out how often it has been ridden lately.

Check that the exhaust isnt chocka with crap. a mates baffle collapsed on an A model once & also another mate had his exhaust fill with gas because the induction was fill of crap from the tank.

if you are looking for a mechanic, goto either Boyle's (by the basin Mcd's) or Motorad in town and they should sort you out.

    Good luck dude
yeah... sorry bro, i thought that ment miles 'n hour.

The plugs are suposevly new a month old when i got it, but im not too sure bout that. Ive been thinking bout looking at the carbs but that has to wait till tmr ive neva done this before on a bike so it should keep me occupied for a while. Thanks for your advice

Dont know about the A model, but the C model does not have a fuel filter from factory. They only cost about $3 and take 5 minutes to install - well worth while.
