    Oh yes - you posted this while I was working out my post.

    You're right of course - it's the other changes to ACC that need legislation changes. The levy we're talking about is already enshrined in legislation, and the Minister can decide on the amount any time he likes.

    It's all a numbers game. There are 122 MPs so 61 votes are needed to pass any piece of legislation.

    National = 58 MPs
    Labour = 43
    Greens = 9
    Act = 5
    Maori Party = 5
    Progressive = 1
    United Future = 1

    So if National can count on the support of either Act or the Maori Party, the legislation will go through. No individual National MP is going to put his/her job on the line by voting against the Govt.
    Yes, but in this case there is no legislation. You're thinking of the amending ACC legislation that Smith is currently trying to put together. That's a completely different matter to our issue.

    ACC levies are just signed off by the Minister under regulations.

    So, if a few Nat MPs come along and whisper in his ear "Gee, Nick, don't you think we're upsetting those bikers a bit much, they've got votes remember, and there seem to be an awful lot of them in my electorate that are really pissed off with us. Just saying, for the good of the party, like", then Mr Smith may think a bit harder about the wisdom of said signing off.

    I may, or may not have a heap of other media contacts too

    We could probably get Paula Bennett to go pillion... She seems like she would. I'm happy to deliver anything (legal) to Ms Bennet if we go that way.

    And David Cunliffe is gunning for the top Labour job - he'll media whore for anyone. So will Lynne Pillay to desperately keep herself relevant (specially since she thought her seat was safe last year.....) Phil Goff's a waste of skin, so no point in asking him to help. (less popular than "margin of error" as I understand)

    The more media the better. Once we have firm dates n such wheel them in

    Is there any particular date sthat are better/badder from a media point of view - eg do they all spend Friday getting pissed or such like?

    In the meantime, you COULD start dropping mysterious hints about "this BIKEOI things that's going down next month . Any idea what it is ? "

    3pm . Mangere. Sounds like a starter, if we could must a decent roundup of bikes. We'd need at least a hundred or so to be impressive.

    Won't get near him. too many cops with bangbangs round him. But if they have to smuggle him out the back way , he's bound to ask why.

    Nothing illegal, of course . Just citizens exercising their civl right to congreate, and protest.

    Could be a good chance to kick off.

    Weathers ungood , but.

    We'd need some banners.

    And we STILL don't have a slogan.

    Can you set up a date? Next few weeks or so?

    We'll do a media release beforehand. Which means that there'll probably be a cop presence when you get there, but that's fine. We don't want to give him the bash or anything, just point out that he's pissing off the people he depends on for his cushy mealticket.

    Should start a new thread on that, discuss the best date and then put an entry in the KB calendar. Then people can add their names to the list of riders.
