    Another biker fatality

    From the Herald this morning
A man died instantly yesterday when his motorcycle hit an articulated truck head-on about 11am on State Highway 1, 16km north of Amberley in Canterbury.

Amberley police said the man was thrown from the motorcycle and mangled parts of the bike were wedged under the bonnet of the truck when it stopped down the highway and caught fire. The truck driver was uninjured.
    Rest in peace.

    RIP fellow biker
To every man upon this earth
    Death cometh sooner or late
And how can a man die better
    Than facing fearful odds
For the ashes of his fathers

    R.I.P.

The roads up there are all straight like the desert road is.

    oooo -not good - RIP

Is it just me being more aware of these accidents this year, or are more bikers dying lately? I really don't like what I'm reading - and how often I am reading it...

    Damn!
That would be round about Waipara where there is generally pretty good visibility. Possibly a truck coming out of the weighbridge and effluent disposal facility which is about 1 km south of Waipara?

    From the Press
A motorcyclist is dead after crossing the centre line and slamming into a truck on State Highway 1 in North Canterbury yesterday.

Waipara chief fire officer Paul Harris said the north-bound truck burst into flames from the impact of the smash near Home Creek Bridge, Waipara.

The motorcyclist was killed instantly. He had not yet been identified, police said.

Harris said the truck's driver escaped from the burning cab unharmed. Several passing motorists tried to douse the flames, including a motorhome driver carrying a fire extinguisher, but the fire was too intense.

Three fire crews from North Canterbury attended the blaze which gutted the cab of the refrigeration truck. They had the fire under control in less than 10 minutes, Harris said.

Police investigating the smash closed the highway for about five hours and motorists were diverted.
As everyone has said, there's far too many bikers dying at the moment. Or maybe it's always been that way, and now we're on this site we just hear aout them?
    RIP

    Head on with a truck!

Can see that happening on a bend (was this on a bend?) but on a straight road you have to be looking at the scenery or checking your watch or something.

Suicide would be pretty reliable at 200 plus clicks into something travelling at 100 the other way. The impact would be greater than jumping out of a plane without a paracute.

    From rec.skydivingFAQ:

"However, by diving or "standing up"in free fall, any experienced skydiver can learn to reach speeds of over 160-180MPH. Speeds of over 200MPH require significant practice to achieve. The record free fall speed, done without any special equipment, is 321MPH. Obviously, it is desirable to slow back down to 110MPH before parachute opening."

Still, hitting a truck head on at any speed is unpleasant.
If a man is alone in the woods and there isn't a woke Hollywood around to call him racist, is he still white?
