    Thanks for the info

Yeah I noticed the smoother cruise at 9grand in top..... I do heaps of motorway riding so I like that bit!

The air densities may have made the difference you noticed between riding at night in the cool dense air. while in the morning it may have been thinner and possibly still damp (depending what time you rode and weather conditions....),
Worth noting that uncontrolable external conditions can influence how the bike performs anyways...... like on the desert road, (I got carb icing in an old corrolla up there a while back.... )

Also how long do you warm up your bike before the morning blast? I find mine runs better all day after I let it warm up good and proper fist thing!

    stupid zzr!!!!!

f**k, screw biking and this shit. im getting so pissed today. first i was trying to get any excess chain lube off my chain and i just so happens to drop my bike and snap my clutch lever off!!!! it still rides ok, after i bent the gear lever back out from the bike

then to top it all off i noticed that im leaking oil from around my gear box area (i think) and its nice and pretty and black and covered in shit and driping....argggh

i tihnk i might need an emergency service next week to get everything sorted...which means more $$$$

ohh yeah and a by-product of the falling over, some more nice cracks through out the fairing.

i was planing on repainting my bike, got some snad paper yesterday to start, but with all these cracks n stuff, i shuld just spend all the extra $$$ and buy a new set of fairings!!!

im not a happy camper if you can tell

anyway, sorry to side track our nice lil tread gong on here! just had to vent my anger, as one does!!!

Oh dear. I always leave my levers just tight enough on the bars that they won't slip in normal use but will move if the bike drops. Doesn't always save them but often does.

Cheer up, winter's coming. You'll be glad of that fairing when the rain's beating in on you.

Gearbox leak doesn't sound good, but maybe just a seal or something.

It all sort of goes with the biking territory. They're more effort than a cage.

We all have our moments of doubt, getting to speak with dudes who have seen it all helps alot, as does a relaxing ride (ballistic thrash) through the countryside.......

Apparantly plastic welding isn't too much of a drama, I have not as yet learnt the art...... my fairings need a bit of attention too. maybe we could have a plastic welding meet after our ZZR250 race....... Flag painting it nice untill your gunna sell it! apparantly aftermarket colours and lack of original stickers devalue a bike heaps!?!

ahh screw aftermarket colour stuff. i only bought the bike for 1700, so im not gona get much when i try sell anyways. aslong as it looks tidy. and if i do get it repainted ill get some more stickers made up by the local sign writing guy...

i think the oil might just have been a overflow or sumthing cos it only drpped like 5 times, and now its stopped, so maybe it leaked when it was on its side..?

if i drop it again, and can prove to the insurance guy that i need new fairings, i should just do that, my excess goes down to 500 when i get my restricted so that might be a good option.

    ahh ill get over.

Take your fairings off, clean the bike to the best of your ability, then go for a half hour ride or maybe even an hour. Come back and see where the mess has begun again.

I had a similar problem and found that I needed a new alternator cover gasket. $18, from the local bike thief *cough* I mean shop.

Also give the 'dripping' flluid a sniff, to see what it is, it may just be the excess chain lube - I had that scare myself, if you cant afford a gasket, get some gasket paper and make it up youself (cheap and proper)!

Dont worry about the plastics, I'm looking at getting a plastic weilder so I will come to auckland with it at some point and sort some people out who need it .

But make sure you do as justsomeguy says, its the best way to test for oil leaks, dont get to upset about it, bikes tend to put us through our wits to see how dedicated we really are to them

Just take care and do your best to sort it out, and tell us what you find, good luck

A sheet of gasket paper costs bout $7 from Repco. And it's a bloody hassle to get it in exactly the right shape especially with screw placement.

So I'd say just buy a new gasket, since it's just another $10.

And if you are using so much chain lube that you mistake it for an oil leak then you're probably using about 20 doses at once (Since you said it was all covered, etc)

See you tomorrow John if you're coming down......

    ..
Easy peasy. Smear a bit of dirty old oil over the mating surface of the cover (OK, you can use mechanics blue if you really want to waste your money). Place cover oily side up, stretch paper over mating surface. Run a plasticy thing (I use a screwdriver handle) over the reverse side of the paper. Press in a little over the screw holes. (Big covers it may be easier to do by putting the cover down onto the paper. Just have to be more careful about the holes)

Remove paper, voila, you have the exact template marked out. Cut neatly and accurately, use a hole punch (cheap as chips from your friendly local tool merchant) for the screw holes. Good as a bought one and a fraction of the price. Keep the cutout bit from the middle for little gaskets.

Lesson two, we'll tell you about that wonderful stuff called shellac. That's a real trade secret that one.

Cleaning is very easy......... an old paint brush and an old cup of kerosene and in 5 mins you're done.

I clean everything with kerosene and a brush, including the fairings everything........ the whole bike. For the cosmetic bits I just paint on leave to let dry if clean enough or apply another coat and then wipe off...... cleanazz

I find it does the job perfectly.
