    93 Protest Ride

Does Anyone know who orginized the 93 protest. Because i'm sure there was not this much shit then. Why do we need a poll for everything make a desssion and that's it get a poster out there with all relivent information on it why does it have to take a month to get this show on the road it didn't in 93 .

We had a day pick and all the riders turned up if you cant make it tuff we rode down in the morning and came back the next day there was no having to take 3 days and believe me there where thousand of bikes.

Well, we actually had a meeting this week where a date was debated strenuously and then agreed on, did not hear your voice there.

These levies affect ALL road registered bikers, not just the ones whos riders have the fitness and ability to ride to Wellington in one hit and then turn around and come back the next day. Some will actually need to split the trip.

Organising these things, takes a bit more care than it did 16 years ago. We have to dot i's and cross t's so we cant have the finger pointed at us.

Perhaps if you actually got involved you would have a better grasp of what is ACTUALLY involved getting something like this off the ground.

Either shut up, or put up!

Bring on your red rep too

It was a protest against ACC putting up levies for bikes and basing them on capacity, $1000 for a litre bike. Deja vu or what ?

    And yes it was successful

There was an earlier one too, in 1979, when ACC (wait for it, wait for it) wanted to hike levies on bikes massively (woddya mean y' guessed ? you psychic or summit). No ride on Wellington then, but we took over the Auckland Town Hall

And I think that was successful to

    Mrs Busa pete

Sorry we where unable to attend wednesday night as pete was working late to enable him to take the time off work to go to Wellington and it does not matter what day it was going to be we where going anyway which we felt was more important. And pete also does not have a licence at the moment either.

They had the same problems to over come in 93 as they do now but as TerminalAddict said there was no intertubes existing at the time to stuff around with polls for this and that a dission was made

As far as helping out i put my name forward and it feel upon deaf ears we know why that is now. And i really could not work with the look at me attitude that seems to existing.

It's ok when it is all finished we will give you the tits to pin a medal on

There was one ages ago over tyres - well over 20 years ago when the Govt introduced a levy (tax) on imported tyres to help the NZ tyre industry.

The problem was that there was NO motorcycle tyre industry in NZ to protect but we got lumped with the cars.

The protest was well organised by dealers - you dropped off a used tyre at your local dealer and paid X amount ($5 or something) for the courier fee and they had coordinated with courier companies to have them all delivered to Parliament in Wellington.

I cannot remember if it made any difference though.

We could possibly do a similar thing now - I suggest we courier a small bag of shit each, as it is certainly being thrown our way by them

Are the arguments for and againts those ACC levey increases in 1993 & 79 still availabile?
and or the data the ACC produced then, in argument of their implimentation?
Were there any News Headlines made at either the 93, or the 79 protests?
It could be advantages for us to remind the public that this is the third time bikers have been assulted in this way.
Maybe the public has forgotten, do we need to remind them
What were the reasons they did not impliment the changes back then?
are those reasons still relevent today?
Can we call on History to give us some clout in this war against corperate greed

I was at both of them, even spoke at the 79 one. But buggered if I can remember what the arguments were, other than "it's not fair".

Don't think ACC produced any data then

It was a very different world.
