    Idea: fundraising ?

Just had a thought, which may or may not be a crock of crap.

What if we tacked a fundraising thing onto the Bikeoi? The idea would be for each rider to bang a few dollars into a bucket.

I know that's a big ask for those coming from far away who already have to pay a lot for petrol and stuff, but it's "just a few dollars more".

The idea would be for the money to go to a worthy relevant cause. I was thinking Wellington Free Ambulance but that's a bit "local". Second thought was St Johns (maybe we'd make a point of how they treat sports players!).

The benefit would be things like:
    1. Good press. Perhaps headlines like "Riders on peaceful protest raise $5,000 for {insert charity}".
    2. If it's a relevant cause we show we don't mind paying a little something for ourselves; just not highway robbery.

I recognise downsides are things like adding yet another layer of organisation to an already complex undertaking.

Anyway, just wanted to get the idea out there...

Good idea. And good publicity for the dirty bikers....

Donating the BRONZ at the moment would be the go - then they can buy newspaper space to win over more of the public.

Very good idea and something that has been discussed.

Another suggestion for a charity that has been made is approaching Wellington Free Ambulance and passing some buckets around for them.

If it's for the ride on the 17th Nov may I suggest we take our lead from BRONZ and direct ideas and suggestions to them?

    That's a flipping grouse idea.
If a man is alone in the woods and there isn't a woke Hollywood around to call him racist, is he still white?

No, he'd just buy another 10 with the proceeds.

There is already a plan to have a collection for the Wellington Free Ambulance, but we wanted it to look 'spontaneous' so as not to take attention away from the ACC levy's

Spontaneous is good, but I for one almost never carry cash.

Might pay to have at least a little "publicity" for the collection...
