Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

I am writing a submission, don't expect to change anything but might help.
    A contentious point.

In theory there are two funds. Road vehicles, funded by fuel and our rego levies. And sport, funded by taxation.

moto-x, scrambles, and other recreational off road stuff, claims SHOULD be met from the sport account.

Problem is, if a battered motorcyclist is wheeled into A&E , most of the time the nurse or orderly filling out the form just writes "Motorcycle accident". So it goes into the road figures , regardless.

There *is* a way on the form to indicate that it's not a road accident, but it's so obtuse that mostly it isn't used.

We have advice that Waikato A&E surveyed this some years ago, and found that 80% of A&E casualties were recreational (believable - every weekend the offroaders have someone with an injury). Yet recreational only accounts for 9% in the ACC figures.

We also have anecdotal evidence of people who have seen it put down wrong.

I suppose the villainous bill stickers use those cans of spray adhesive from warehouse stationery ?

A quick spray, slap up the poster and they're off. What is the world coming to.

All valid points except this one i think.

"Bikes are 16 times more dangerous than cars". From a household travel survey done in 1998. It compares DISTANCE TRAVELLED . It doesn't prove that bikes are 16 times as dangerous, it proves that cars travel 16 times as many kilometres as bikes.
Dividing motorcycle accidents by the number of registered bikes gives motorcyclists around 3 times the risk.

Dividing motorcycle accidents by the fewer kms travelled by your typical bike compared to your typical car increases the risk factor again.

Small number of bikes travelling fewer kilometres each on average compared to cars, yet costing about 1/3rd of cars.

Motorcyclists are having the number of accidents they are having... *in those fewer kilometres travelled*

I wonder if 'TUI' beer would get behind such a villianous bit of political standing?
Huge posters with snipets of the real truth to the ACC statistics.
Not to much information for people to read as they drive past the billboards on there 'slow' traffic jammed journey to work.

Tsk tsk. I'm glad I don't know anyone naughty enough to do stuff like that.

    Meanwhile...

I will also be keeping a lookout for people with large pieces of chalk scrawling this on footpaths around the central city. It's not quite as naughty as the billstickers but it's still pretty naughty.

    And purse one's lips....

I sincerely hope that no one would do anything like that, I mean we bikers have a reputation to uphold...can't have folk thinking we are literate and intelligent, now can we?

For what it's worth Ixion, I have done just what you suggest in a couple of emails to Nat MP's. I have asked directly that they address their figures.

    No reply so far...funny that.
