    Viral Billstickers

The enemy keep quoting bad numbers against us

I want, in the next two weeks , to try to disable those numbers.

    There are , round numbers , 100000 motorcycles . 3.2 million cars.
ACC paid out $60million on bikes, $208million on cars

The enemy's weak points, on the stats front are :

"The levy should actually be $3700 " - quoted often by John Key. But $3700 on every bike comes to $370 million . More than the total paid out each year for ALL active vehicle claims, car van or bike, since the scheme began

Guys, try 2 times 2 , you might get that right.

"Every car driver is paying an extra $77 because of motorcyclists". That works out at $250 million. Four times as much as the total cost of all active ACC claims for motorcycles since the beginning of the scheme

Guys! Try 2 times 2, you might get that right

"Bikes are 16 times more dangerous than cars". From a household travel survey done in 1998. It compares DISTANCE TRAVELLED . It doesn't prove that bikes are 16 times as dangerous, it proves that cars travel 16 times as many kilometres as bikes.

Guys! Try 2 times 2, you might get that right

    "
Big bikes cost more". False. The ACC only looked at accidents where the bike was primarily to blame, and ignored those where the bike was the innocent party.

Guys! Try 2 times 2, you might get that right

The bit in bold is sort of the refrain.

Now, what is needed is for everyone, whenever they hear anybody trotting out one of the ose figures, to immediately respond (email, letter to the editor, ring the radio station etc) with the response , and the refrain

An irresponsible person suggested that an A4 poster be made up showing the above information (who's good at designing stuff?). And that a team of viral billstickers post up such posters all over the show, by stealth.

That of course would be most improper and we could not possibly approve of it. So if anyone hears of someone who might be available to do such a thing, please PM me your name (sorry, their name) so that I can dissuade them from such naughtiness.

(BTW I am technically an accountant and I do understand discount present value and such like, so I do sort of understand where the numbers come from. Doesn't matter, ACC are using them as a weapon to tax us off the roads, we are justified in making them look silly. Joe Q Public , that deep and incisive thinker , doesn't understand acturial accounting, but he can do arithmetic.)

PM sent - I fear that the university may prove quite vulnerable to this sort of thing. All efforts must be made to prevent such a thing from happening!

Oh, what a naughty idea. Certainly not one that I could approve of. I shall have to take a note of all the places that such a thing might be put. To ensure that if any do appear, that I report to the 'right people' that it has in fact happened.
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

I am sure I will have to be vigilant about this type of stationary appearing in the CBD there are a lot of vulnerable lamp posts.

One would assume that the perpetrators would include the protest logo as on the T shirts.

And the info from my original post.

Such villany. I'm no artist , but perhaps someone who is could post up what to look out for.

In easy-to-print *.doc format, the more easily to spread the message about these anti-social persons.

Damn! I have that Tui advert template at work. Best I password protect it tomorrow so no one accesses it and makes such a reprehensible sign.
God. I've just realised I have my work laptop at home and can dial in to access that this evening. Whew!
