Cheers to whoever distributed flyers out at Symonds St - saved me a job - one thing though - assuming that same someone did the Civic - I also swung past the civic and started putting out flyers (there were none visible) - then I saw a single one that had slid down the screen of a bike.

one of the construction blokes there (well 2 actually) warned me "don't get caught doing that" - I told them I didn't really care and I was going to do it anyway - BUT they told me that the council guys had been round half an hour earlier and **REMOVED** all the flyers from the bikes (cheeky b*tards).

I flyered them all again anyway (making sure to 'hide' them a bit better) - and gave one of the construction guys too a stack to give out in the pub

Be aware the Civic car park people are flyer Nazis - for the next protest might be better to get a volunteer to hang around the bikes at about 5 to hand them out personally.

This is clearly not a council policy - because there were a bunch of bikes (that obviously rarely move) in the downtown parking building that still had the flyer for the teddy bear run ride I'd put on there last week.

There is nothing in Mission Bay that cannot be acquired else where so the inconvenience will be tolerable by the vast majority I believe.

The ‘park in’ perhaps should be time limited say 10-11am, when we all leave the impact will be felt again by the sudden availability of spaces and those of us that stay on, park in bike spaces (or the little areas we all know about) and shows again how bikes have a minimal impact on other road users.

Disruption is inevitable its about how we educate those disrupted thats important.
Maybe we could ONLY fill up the fish pot car park and the streets but leave the other car park (BK/Mecca) free for cars - but have a mob out there distributing flyers. This way we can encourage cage drivers who want to come see, have somewhere for the old dears/disabled to park and make a point. When we've filled every available space except that car park (assuming this turns out to be massive ) then we can start doubling up.

We'd have to sign that car-park as no bikes please with a 'target' logo so everyone knew we were deliberately being noble...

Hmm... if that could be proved, it could well be illegal.

After all, if you put the flyer on your own bike, and the council man took it off, he has stolen your flyer !

I actually had another idea for next time - putting flyers in envelopes addressed to the "owner of vehicle {rego #}". Council would have a hard time knowing what these were about unless they opened potentially private mail.

That would get my attention.. I'd open and read it to see what it was about, rather than just chucking it thinking it was for some irrelevant crap

Cant be arsed reading the whole thread but

On Tuesday in Welly we had motorists pulling over and applauding us, we had the public standing on over bridges waving and clapping.

With this plan I bet you wont.

I cannot see the point in going out of your way as a group of bikers intentionally to piss off those people in Mission bay just wanting to exert their rights to have a nice relaxing breakfast.

How this plan will work in our favour is beyond me, with respect but dum idea in my opinion

    good luck

There's also no point in gathering together in a remote field miles away from civilisation - this would be the least disruptive action - but what would be the point....

Having said that, i do think we should seriously consider reserving some space (eg the mecca car park) for cars - who knows we might even draw some car drivers in deliberately as spectators. We can use this as positive PR (in the way we announce we will keep to a single lane on the motorway) and we end up with a win-win.

I have spoke to quite a few people (bikers and Mrs P included) who have concerns we'll piss people off - I don't think we will too much - but we can decide up front that we'll go out of our way to NOT piss people off by giving them options - whilst making the biggest show we can (imagine bikes all the way along the waterfront - much bigger statement than filling a relatively invisible car park...)

Come on people - we have the chance to make a show AND not upset people (we can even publicise we'll keep a car park open....

We've done the rides. The issue needs to remain in the media spotlight and the public eye (and in front of the politicians). I think this action ups the ante a couple of notches, which is a good thing. Any better ideas?

I just thought that with the recent stuff I've managed to get into the media, that I must be doing something right. Therefore have a look at this. Perhaps some of you can use it?

    That's a better message.
Political correctness: a doctrine which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd from the clean end.

Their would be no point........organising yourselves to be nothing but a pain in the arse for your fellow New Zealanders wanting to enjoy a quiet breakfast........."cause thats what they do" has no point either in my opinion.

The only thing you will achieve is encouraging negative opinion towards bikers, and possibly a few run over bikes by "oops I didnt see your bike parked there" by rich "dont give a fuck" SUV drivers.

Loving the idea about raising the profile of the cause, but do it nicely, have a few banners.......give free rides to people, give some kids the chance to sit on some bikes hand out your flyers make yourselves out to be nice considerate people, you will get nothing but praise from everyone.

Anyway, I know Im over opinionated so I should shut up

    said with love people.
