    Bikers and Charities

I think this should be the next phase of the PR campaingn.

The public needs to know how much we give to the community by way of charity fundraising etc. i do not know how much is raised but I'd be ya bottom dollar that no group can touch the biker fraternity on this issue in terms of the charities that we support. Pretty hard to slag us on the charity causes etc.

A few days back I emailed Goff on this issue. Don't know what has happened but he will be aware of this issue.

I have stated else where that we need to push every motorcycle fund raising event into the media, regardless if it is a country school trail ride fund raiser, HOG toy run, or some other fund raising event, just the Motorcycle comunity knowing about these things is not good enough, it needs to be brought to the attention of Joe and Jane Public.

There was quite a it of discussion around this a week or two back.. Indeed the last Auckland protest included a teddy bear run for that very reason. ACC aside - if we're going to organise these big runs it simply makes sense that we help out some others as part of it.

We bikers are good at finding positive excuses for group rides - we do charity runs, easter egg runs, toy runs etc etc all the time - now we're upping the frequency of runs to keep acc in the spotlight - then it makes sense to keep the charity aspects in the media too,

Yeh so there'll be a few Joe Public nay sayers who think we're giving just for the media attention - but we get a good reporter (and there are a few of them around) - then we might be able to bring this aspect into the media too...

I know this might be a big ask... But.

The city missions always attract a huge media interest at Xmas. Plenty of coverage for their Xmas dinner.

Are there any single or couples without children or other family commitments who could voluntere their services to help cook and serve?

    Wear ya t-shirts etc.

God knows if these increases and other agendas go through there are gunna be a lot of us calling on their hospitality

So.... lots of BIG group rides is in order. Keep the biker profile very high in the public and media eye.

Dont let the issue die. Dont let them win with ANY increase in levy.

If Govt reduce the increase, did we win? No, ACC wins. Many of us struggle to make ends meet.

I say NO increase or bust, and I for one will keep on going until we see no increase.

Our club does a toy run every year for Barnardos. Had about 100 bikes last year so that meant more than 100 toys for needy kids.

We've also just done a riding course with the police and they said they were not going to charge us, so as we'd already budgeted to spend that money, we are donating it to a charity of their choice instead.

We've also donated money to the rescue helicopter, we take part in blood runs, etc so if there are fewer motorcyclists due to increased fees, all those things will no longer get our support.
Yes, I am pedantic about spelling and grammar so get used to it!

Please don't take this the wrong way, but Brother spend more on one event than all the biker events around the country during the year raise put together.

Having said that, accurate accounting and professional reporting attached to a press release for every charity event from now on would not go amiss.

There is usually a charity toy run on the Sunday of the Burt Munro Challenge weekend. Perhaps organised by the Southland MCC?

29.11.09 maybe it will get a mention.

Not sure if this is relevant but I've committed any and all money made from the sale of the Jam It Acc track to CanTeen.

Also, a good friend of mine does a lot of work for Auckland City Mission and I did suggest that I did a fundraising song for them, which they are happy to support. Now, with this in mind, there could be a way to get a biker type feel/contribution/theme to this??

As I said, may not be relevant but that's my 2c I suppose......never was good at fundraising but happy to do it like everyone.....
