Arrow Questions to ask Nick Smith on the 30th....Auckland

On Moday 30th November as stated in another thread http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/sh...d.php?t=112791 Nick Smith is attending an open public meeting at the Royal Akarana Yacht Club, Okahu Bay in Auckland. The meeting is to discuss climate change and ACC.

The purpose for this thread is to get a list of questions together that people want answers too then hopefully Les or some other quick witted inderviduals can ask the suitable ones on the night.

    A few to start the ball rolling;

Is it the intention of the govenment to scrap ACC and privatise it as an insurance company?

Is it the intention of the govenment to introduce levys for competative sports and other higher risk passtimes?

Do any of the current govenment have personel intrests in NZ or Australian insurance companies?

Why despite the accurate interpretation of the figures available do you and ACC continue to choose to belive the inaccurate figures?

Where is your mandate to deviate from the Woodhouse principles that founded ACC in the first place?

Why dont you ensure that the words you are given to spout are accurate in the first place? Are you embarrassed when you are shown up to be a Liar?

Are you aware of how many votes the biker community either hold or influence?

Are you concerned that there seems to be a growing number of voters out here that are coming out against these proposed changes?

"So, Mr Minister, if the National Government is trying to covertly target middle to high income earners, in a user pays modelled ACC system focused on average accident costs. Would it not be more relevant to target them across the board, given average accident costs for mid to high income brackets are far higher than average CC rated costs, irrespective of mode of transport (motor cycle, bicycle, foot, car), due to the income supplement component of the costs. About time you called a spade a spade don't you think Mr Minister, and fess up to your move away from the traditions of ACC and a general National support structure?"

    ""Mr nickster
What policies are you going to put in place to promote Climate Change in regards to lowering vehicle emissions?

Is your party going to promote Climate Change practices such as thue use of low fuel consumption scooters in the CBD's of our major cities?

Are there going to be any incentives for workers to use more enviromentaly friendly vehicles for daily commuting to their work places which assist in Climate Change? ""

Directing the questions so that they cover both changes can put him in a situation that his answers can become very difficult.
Getting him to admit that bikes and scooters are more a efficent vehicle , and need to be promoted as a way to reduce Climate Change promotes both of the causes and places him then open to more direct questions like.

" If you agree to scooters and motor bikes being more enviromentaly friends, thus reduceing carbon emmisions, why increase the ACC tax on said vehicles, when a redution of the tax, would then become ecconomic sence to Joe Citizen to switch to said vehicles, as a way of reducing Climate Change and their weekly expendature on transportation to their chosen work place."

Since the information you have been supplied by ACC has been shown to be unreliable, what are you doing about replacing those who gave it, and will you be directing their replacements to start again from the beginning, ensuring that the information being used is factual, correct and complete?

    - or -

Does the govt plan to privatise (parts of) ACC? If so, which part/s? And if not, and because it is what the public of this country want, will you be directing a return to it's founding principles, with one single fund that everyone pays into as part of general taxation, with a small top-up from registered vehicles and petrol, without risk-loaded levies being applied to any individual or group thereof?
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

    Um

Y'know I'm hesitant to mention this.

But y'all do realise that now he's had 5 days warning of the questions, Nick will have a whole team of spin doctors and speech writers (all on six figure salaries) crafting him the perfect response to each question.

Not perfect for us, he doesn't care about us, but a perfect answer from the public point of view.

Good questions, good to put them up to him, just don't expect him have him at a loss for the perfect answer.
