Pillion question..

Hi

Are you allowed to carry a pillion passenger on your learners if the pillion has a full license? Didnt see anything on it in the road code, just wondernig what the deal is

'fraid not dude.. can only carry a pillion on your full. You're the rider, not the pillion. You're the one that's meant to be in control. If you bugger up (hope ya don't), then there's nothing the pillion can do about it to help. Doesn't work the same as cars..

Why are scooter riders allowed pillions, isn't it more dangerous having 2 people on a slow bike that feels like its going to crash, they max out at 50km and you're only allowed to do 70km on your learner license anyway.

Probably not. You're not even allowed a pillion on a restricted licence. Having said that if a full licence holder had the confidence to get on the back with a learner in control, said learner has likely impressed the more experienced one with impressive riding skills and attention to killer cagers and should be given the go ahead.

bike doesn't matter, it's what's in yer wallet.

I understand that there are plans to restrict the carrying of pillions on scoots to full class 6 licence holders only.

As far as I am aware.... the answer is NO... until you have your full license.
Thats on both m/bikes and also scooters.

But maybe we need Spud, Bykeycop and the other police bike riders in here to clarify this question and give out the correct answer.

PART 4 - LEARNER LICENCES, RESTRICTED LICENCES, AND FULL LICENCES

Sect 16 Conditions of learner licence— clause (c)

(iv)The holder must not carry another person on the motorcycle or in a sidecar attached to the motorcycle.

and

Sect 18.Conditions of restricted licence— Sect (1)

(b)In the case of a Class 6R licence, the holder must comply with the conditions applying to the holder of a Class 6L licence under clause 16, except clause 16(1)(b) and clause 16(1)(c)(ii).

clause 16(1)(b) is the L plate. clause 16(1)(c)(ii) is the 70kph limit.

No dispensation for dependants (that is allowed for class 1R only , by )

(a)In the case of a Class 1R licence, the holder—


(i)Must not carry any passenger, other than the holder's spouse or a dependant, unless the holder is accompanied by a person described in subclause (2); and
