I'll be taking the car, and I have a spare seat IF et al doesn't want it. I'll talk to him tomorrow, and if he is taking his bike, I'll have a seat available if anyone needs a ride. I'll be up for the Sunday ride though.
Attend the funeral on our bikes (having checked with family 1st).
Ride to the accident site, on the weekend, and place flowers.
Collect a donation and give it to the family to what they want with.
Send flowers to the family (note: they will be sent a lot of flowers).
Put a notice in the Dom Post on behalf of Kiwi Biker.

How about meeting up at the Martinborough Square at midday on Sunday and riding out to Gladstone from there? That may save a long procession of bikes over the Takas...Originally Posted by jazbug5

I'm in for the memorial ride on sunday.
I think we need a new thread headed "Sunday, Memorial Ride to Gladstone!"
So everybody will know.
I agree with CSL, the more bikes there, the greater the statement of supportOriginally Posted by Celtic_Sea_lily

Experience......something you get just after you needed it
Having been to a biker funeral, I have riden at the request of the family without a helmet, but it made me feel very unsafe. If it was not a the request of the family I would have worn the helmet. I don't like the idea of adding to the passing away of a fellow biker by risking another by attending a funeral without a helmet. It's an old biker tradition I feel we don't have to continue. Helmets should come off at the cementry, not on the way. Just my feelings anyway.

Buy some wide black ribbon..... and then if you really cant sew a few stitches... use a safety pin to hold it together.... and you will have easy access to a few safety pins.Originally Posted by SpeedMedic

But im keen to stay uniform with whatever you guys feel is appropriate..
err - and which arm?..
I think tie any black scarf, or strip of black material onto to your upper arm on Fri. We'll know if we pass you on the M-way it's your respect to Sam. Don't think it matters at all what you use as long as its on there. Not a stitch required. luckily.Originally Posted by SpeedMedic

Dunno
I'll tie my black bandana over my red one on my left arm (otherwise you would not see the black against the black leather).

If it rains on Thurs or even wed then I may even be able to cross the Strait as we won't be able to do any harvesting. See what happens.
I would love to show our respect for him.
I would like to say thanks again for the thoughts and feelings that have generated such an enormous amount of emotion across NZ. I've known him a little over 12 months and never have I been oblivious to Sam's charismatic, loving approach to the world, nor his inextiguishable drive to help, assist, his fellow man to share an enjoyable experience.
Sam was a well known and much loved young man, I spent many hours on his ZZR with him, he was nothing short of superb in any endeavour, shy wasn't something that Sam practiced and neither shall we. Careful he was, mostly, certainly always when I was there, but never afraid. He was a guy that knew a place that respected the nature of a man's spirit, and was always there, in heart.
It's a comforting thought, to know that there is a place where people divided by so many factions in life can be together and create a community that speaks to each individual member in a unique way. The people on KBer have excellent, creative, genuine ideas of remembering flyin' and what he means to us, I ask that you all remember to be aware on your travels, of yourselves mainly, and of others too. Respect and consideration are things that we can all know intimately, if we want to, all of the time.
I can say, as much as I would love to travel to Whenua Tapu without my head on, I know, without asking, that family of flyin' would not appreciate such an 'unsafe' gesture. However, once inside the cemetary grounds, it would be a nice tribute, something that will need to be carefully organised if it is to be executed.
I will be joining the ride from Caltex to 'Our Lady of Fatima' and on to Whenua Tapu, as a pillion of course. If anyone comes to Wellington and gets stuck for directions, or a place to stay, even a ride, please give me a call, I may not be able to organise a bike, but I'm local and its actually not hard to find the place when you know the area. My details are on the original, now 12 page, post, dedicated to flyin', titled URGENT!!.
Guys, there's a lot of feelin, that I can't put into words, Nathan, Dean, Jimbo, my thoughts have been with you, please take care, and be in touch if I can be of assistance in any way. Like I say... a lot I can't...
I'd like to mention now, Sam has travelled over the Haywads pretty much every day, on occasion up to four or six times in a day, since long before his motocycle purchase, and nothing deterred him, well... not much, anyway, point is.... I would like to come along for a memorial ride, round the loop (Matinborough), Sunday sounds good, and please incorporate the Haywards. Also, knowing Sam, as I do, I would like to see a convoy through the main streets of both Petone and Tawa... of course, there are other places I would love to go, but there it is... Not a lot considering the miles travelled....
As far as dropping flowers at Gladstone, I know I will be going out there before the ride on Sunday, and I suggest others do the same if they want to stop at the corner to pay respects to Sam. There is potential for havoc if people stop on a corner during a ride... It's a good idea to stop somewhere nearby if its convenient, i'm not too familiar with that area, but know that I will want to stop and remember, something that I nostalgically wish I had been present to experience, and will forever hold dear with memory for Sam.
Again, thank you, to all those who understand where the road leads, and what the choices make of life, my thoughts are with you, as much as Sam and all the other people, across NZ and the world who know and love him.
Peace Sammull, always my friend... Forever
