You're glad you didn't get the ticket though right?
I'd say most people only speed because they think they can get away with it.
Usually a close call with the traffic police is enough to make me think twice about what i'm doing. I don't actually need a ticket to make me slow down for a while.

Interesting - I thought all police cars (those with blue and reds anyway) had radar fitted nowadays.

Anyone know an answer on what percentage do ?

Ah Defectives I presume. Not *real* cops, like Mr Spudchucka or Mr Scumdog.

    A question:

Under NZ law, if a ploice officer asks you, "How fast were you going", and you admit to speeding, despite the fact that they have no proof that you were indeed speeding, can they ticket you?

They were just having fun on quiet night, winding up bikers to see if one'll run.

They can ticket you without any proof. A ticket is just an allegation. Whether a court would convict if you later denied it might be another matter. But if you had admitted it in front of a couple of witnesses you would presumably have trouble getting out of it.

There have been cases where courts have convicted becuase someone went past a policeman standing on the side of the road and the policeman said that the driver was clearly speeding.

All radar and certiifed speedo's etc do is make it easier for it to stand up in court. In law , the cop's speedo doesn't have to be certified. But, without certification, it's easy enough for a defense lawyer to say that the cop's speedo must have been wrong. So there's a rule about it being certified.

Best bet is (I think - pure guesswork here) something like " Well officer, I don't think I was speeding. I certainly am not aware I was, and I was endeavouring to ride at a legal speed. But I was concentrating my attention on the road hazards, so I can't actually say what the speedo was reading. I thought it better to watch the road rather than the speedometer" (assuming you know jolly well you were over the limit of course) . Then shut up.

Except that this allows the inference that you MAY have been speeding. Outright denial will stand up better if you defend it.

well obviously, you don't know. policy, guidelines, and law are 3 VERY different things
