Help wanted. Anyone know where I can buy

bowden cable . ie the inner cable, outer cover and nipples, separately. The cable "makings", not finished cables . The place I used to get it from years ago apparently no longer exists - take your eye off them for 5 minutes (oh all right then, 10 years, if you're going to be picky) and they disappear.

It's been a few years since I made my own cables - but they didn't use to be $85 for a throttle cable either ! I thought BMW parts were highway robbery - seems Yamaha are worse !

I know there's a place in Hamilton (Apex something) that sells this but I want somewhere is Auckland if possible.

Have you asked some of your local m/c shops? Used to be able to buy it from one of the wholesalers, dunno if you still can or not, sorry.

We used to get it from Darby's or Forbes and Davies, but they won't sell it to me now (even though I'm the same person) because I'm ''not in the trade'',even though I am.Funny how the motorcycle shops want a discount from anyone else in the auto trade, but won't reverse the curtesy.I still have some odds and ends, but it's all scrap....I always made my own nipples...easier to do it yourself rather than let anyone else tweak them.

It may be, but it's not as much fun.

Never totally sure of the solder to use, presumably high silver content, not so much lead. I use those rods you get for plumbers I guess.

I have a small piston cut in half & melt the solder in that with a propane torch to create a bath & some Duzel flux. Still don’t trust the cables though I don’t think I’ve had any problems.

If it's just for throttle cables maybe a pushbike shop would have some, the Bike Barn over the road from me in Mt Roskill has a workshop and the guys make up special bikes.Clutch and front brake cables (showing out age if we remember front brake cables) are thicker, but throttle are the same size as pushbike brake cables...

Thanks .Tried a couple of pushbike shops. Apparently they have the outer in rolls, but buy ready made up inners (the lower end I guess is a screw clamp fitting)

Kart places look a possibility. They have throttle cable inner and outer, seems a bit thinner than my sample (48 thou vs 60 thou) But that may not matter. They have 2.5 mm also (100 thou) which I think is the old Briddish clutch/brake sizing . No mention of fitments though , but I guess I can make up pretty much anything that might be required from brass rod
