Did mine yesterday (for that's when mine was due) at the AA on Albert St. No hassles, knew what they were doing and I don't think I paid an admin fee either. ($111 for 15 months for the scoot)

Did this today at a post shop. There can't be any issues because the computer will tell them what the price is. I went in, grabbed an MR27, filled it out with the date exactly 15 months into the future (which works out to roughly adding a year onto my current rego), handed it over to the guy, paid $360 and walked out with the new tag.

    MR27 for rego before 1.7.10

[QUOTE=DougieNZ;1129676984]The following is the information I got from the NZTA today:

The new fees start from 1 July 2010

If your registration expires on or after that date you are screwed. You will be liable to pay the new fees even if you go in and pay early...

If your registration is due before that date you can re-licence using the usual forms for up to 12 months.

Or you can fill in a MR27 for a maximum of 15 months. use of the MR27 will incur a $7.30 administration charge.

Thanks for the warning. I would like to run examples by you to confirm my worst case scenario.
Current bike rego expires on, say 20.6.10, (or even 30.6.10?) and I pay at the agent on this day. Calculate 15 months ahead- 20.9.11, put this in the new licence expiry date box and fill out the MR 27 form. Hurry on down to the LTSA agent and I should pay for 15 months rego at the current rate. ($321.24 plus $86.00 plus $7.30) For a 601cc plus m/c I will save $196.01 over 12 months

Another example. Current rego expires on 30.12.10, and I pay on 20.6.10.
Calculate 15 months from 20.6.10 –20.9.11, put this in the New licence expiry date box on the MR 27 form and hurry on down to the LTSA agent.
All going well I will be charged for another 9 months rego at the current rate.
In your words for this scenario it looks like I am screwed.

Oh well, time to think about rego on hold on the other bike or sell it. Problem here, the minimum time is 3 months & plate swapping would not be believable as they are different colours, not that I would consider this anyway

If you want to take the bike off hold before 3 months is up, you can transfer the ownership of it to someone else (spouse/partner etc.), I believe. This way you don't have to back-pay the rego.

That amount agrees with what I paid yesterday to 'rego' the Sprint until 22/09/11. My rego had expired on the 12th June so a little catch up was included and totalled $463.68. Only the first 12 months is at the old rate!

Similar situation for our Commodore which was licenced until Feb 2011. I extended that out to 22/09/11 also and it cost me $162.98. Three months (Mar-June) at the old rate but the period after July 1st 2011 is at the new rate.

What they are doing is charging the existing (old) rate for the period up until the end of June 2011. Anything beyond that is charged at the new rate. So the closer your next rego period ends after the start of next month, the more you save by extending it out to June 30th 2011 by using an MR27.

Once only offer - be in

    MR27 Registration Form
The form allows you to change the expiry date of a vehicle's license.
You can chose a date up to 15 months from the date of application. (see note 2 on the back of the MR 27)
Costs you $7 plus any extra rego time you need to purchase up to the new date.
Can be done irrespective of the current license status of the vehicle. (e.g. licensed, on hold, expired)

Did this today as my rego was due to expire 27th June 2010. Duc now registered until 24th Sept 2011, 15 months at the old price. ( $397.00 ) The lady behind the counter was quite excited that we were able to do this, very helpfull and expected a flood of big, hairy bikers to be doing the same in the next 6 days.

Went to VTNZ and local Post Shop today and both of them could not give me the new price for rego as from 1st July 2010, because the new prices will not be displayed on the computer until the 1st of July. If you fill out the form and hand it over, computer says " yes ".

So did you. I paid NOTHING. On any vehicle.
If it wasn't for a concise set of rules, we might have to resort to common sense!
