Just went to the VTNZ about importing my bike

well it was real easy.

me: i have a bike coming in from NSW australia. What paper work do i need.

RAy vtnz mt wellington: is it yours.

me yeah i had it a year now.

Ray: has it got a ADR plate .umm it must do if it rego'd over there.

Me: yep.

RAy : A drivers lisence and the current rgo papers or cert of dereg with your name on it.

ME : is that it. what about the disk cert.

ray: ill do that here as long as its a normal comman bike that is all you will need.

me: nothing else

Ray: no just that.

now costoms are a different kettle of fish will let you know in a week or so when it arrives.

it was only this easy as its coming from aussie and had the australian design regulation plate on it (ADR).

but its good to know.

Also make sure you have some shipping documentation, Bill of Lading from your shipping agent, they will want to see that.

Sounds like you were a little more fortunate than me with VTNZ, I left 4 voicemails with Ray asking him to call me back and I'm still waiting 3months later !!

However I did get awesome service from the guys at C&P Motors (Grovesnor St behind Red Baron). They did the compliance / Brake Test / WOF for me no dramas at all, could be worth giving them a yell when you are ready?

Pays to make sure your bike is as factory standard as possible, I swapped off my carbon yoshis before shipping and put the factory pipes back on, just one less thing to potentially hold you up.

Customs was no drama for me, the shipping agent arranged the inspection for me, my bike was steam cleaned in Aussie and had documentation to support that, I understand its just the luck of the draw, some bikes get a cursory look and others get the rubber glove treatment .. depends on who is on duty on the day.

I shipped mine using Chess Moving / Transworld from Sydney to Auckland. Custom crate was built and customs let it through with nothing other than the clean I gave it before riding it to be packed. VTNZ processed everything with no hassles with the documentation from the shipping company. The only gotcha was that the bike had to be owned for more than 12 months (or is it be older than 12 months old?), and I signed a document to say I would not sell it within two years or so. Both of those items would have incurred additional tax had I not had it that long or agreed not to sell it.

I did have the shipping company hold the bike as I'd only owned it from new for about 9 months or so, and I hadn't disconnected the battery as it was only expected to be weeks in transit, not the 4 months as it ended up. The downside was the VTNZ were not helpful with a flat battery at all - but one of the guys took pity and helped jump start it, which it just did, luckily. If you think that is gong to be a prob for yourself I suggest you come prepared when it arrives.

We brought her gixer over from the UK and VTNZ where really helpfull, altho they did make me change the full race system but they did the compliance, rego, warrant and squeezed us in a few days before Xmas so she would have a bike to use

It was free for us to get the bike over as Jan had a free container provided by her employer, I did see some poms last week who had shipped there bikes over for a holiday and they paid £500 (about 1100 bux) each but that was for a return journey

ill stick with ray at vtnz. i can litraly push my bike there its so close. i have pushed them alot further ill tell ya.
will see what coustoms has to say about being clean. i brought it on 15/13/09 and it arrived here 17/03/10 it has only been avalable to me for 9 months of the year so i may not get the 50% devaluation and gst write off. will have to wait and see. i never had it cleaned. i took it down to the car wash and scrubbed it to with in a inch of its life. then just after i put it on the crate i lifted it up on the hoist, coated the bottem with WD40 (learnt that in the uk. when wokin on the bike, spray it with WD40 befor you do any thing) andf again the underside clean. if i get done for it im going to be pissed off its real clean.

will see the forms just went back to costoms so will see!!

it depends but i found aussie is a complete wank. knowing what i now know i would prob not take a bike over amd just buy one there. they are cheaper there i reckon if you shop around the forums and wait it out. some of the deals people get are real good. if it has or can get thad little magic aussie regulation plate it will make it heaps easyer!!!!

well the bike is here.
its been through costoms.
cost so far
$1960.oo shipping (included bed and 6 boxes) bikr was about 1/3 of cubic volume.

$130.00 maf inspection fee

$463.00 duty and GST. As the bike was not avalable to me fro the final 3 months of the year i had
to pay the GST on it

so that it so far will let you know how it all goes.

the freight company in aussie were prize assholes. I asked for the shipment to be deliverd to my door and that was what i paid extea for. But the company here will not deliver motor veichles. std company rule that the aussie end should have knowen about.
i now have to go out to the airport and collect it my self or pay more cash to pay a 3rd party to collect it. luckly i brought a tow bar for my car when i moved house. and my flatmate has a trailor at work i can use. and im a student so i am holiday so have the time to go and get it.
but thats becide the point. i paid extra for what i thought was door to door. the aussie end is going to get a very calm, well spoken call about this matter. im not happy.

but the bike is here so am real stoked. my toy has arrived.
