If it's got a plate that matches the frame number then you can put it on hold, there will possibly be someone in the market for a frame with a live rego, much easier (and cheaper) than trying to reregister a dead one.
Riding cheap crappy old bikes badly since 1987

Well legally what you have is not a frame with a rego plate. It's a motorcycle missing it's engine and wheels and a few other bits. So as far as the legalistics go that's how you sell it just as if it was a broken down bike.

So "legally" I can't sell it as live rego/ rego on hold frame. - In case some one buys and then slaps a motor/front end wheels and tranny in it and then takes it off de-rego'd?
Do I just hand the plate in to the man?

Then it will have to be fresh registered and complianced and given a new VIN Plate?
What a waste to time for the buyer.
I'm not really understanding so thanks for any help.

What Ixion meant was, If the plates match the frame, put em on hold ! No one would want to see you de-reg it mate !
It's quite legal to change a motor , front end, wheels or what have you on a bike, so if the plate matches the frame # , for gods sake put it on hold !

Could have a mate keen on a complete frame as a project, 4 speed swingarm don't really tell me what it was ! Any more details ?

4 speed harley big twin frame - 78fx was a bit of a clue

engine swaps are easy just fill in the form at the post office

motor with plate and papers worth a lot more than just a frame by itself

going rate in the uk for a good shovel frame around £400

going rate for a sporty frame £100

going rate for a legitimate harley log book £1000

the value is in the paperwork

But revinning a bike in NZ is around $800 NZD IF its an insurance write off, which includes an engineers report at 2 to 3 hundred notes and 12 months rego, a mate just revinned an fxr including 6 months rego for 300 odd notes !
Don't think this frame is a write off or the papers be dead already soooo,
No idea what this log book you speak of is, but i'd sure as hell give it a miss at 1000 SP !

So the papers being kept alive on the OP's frame is only worth a few extra dollars to him ! Plus the leg work of getting a police clearance (if it aint dodgy, not really an issue)

But new plates on old bikes look shit lol keep the old plates alive i say !

Yeah I put it on hold.
The engine is going in next project.
If I sell it I just thought it would be easier than re-vinning.

    Thanks for information.
