    Just a little observation...

So now that I've been riding regularly for a couple of months now around town I've been getting much more confident lanesplitting (in fact few things make me happier than being able to slice right up to the front of the queue!) but there was one pretty funny thing I've noticed so far.

Quite often once the light goes green and I pull away, I'll get someone in a cage get a bit snotty and try to overtake me or try to race me off the lights. The best part is that it's never young punks, or boy racers, or anyone like that. In fact many times I wave to my young hooligan pals on four wheels and we share a mutual appreciation of vehicles!

So every single time somebody has cracked the shits with me and tried to have a little drag race, it's been a fat, white, 40 to 50 year old man in a four-wheel drive or mid-range sedan. What is it about driving a Volkswagen Passat or base-model Commodore that make people feel so unfulfilled and full of spite? Anyone else get this response splitting?

No, I ride a bike with sufficient power

JK, had a few toots and attempt to race/block me, I alway assume they just don't realize its legal to split, that or jealousy, most likely both.

I had this a couple of times recently. The last straw saw a guy undertake me, (damn near shove me out of the way) after I split past him on Hobsonville road, if you've seen that road in the morning you'd understand why, big flush median and everything, so not like I cut him off, just bruised his ego, there was even more traffic ahead for me to split past.

Had I needed to turn left/swerve to avoid something or stop he'd have taken me out. Completely unneccessary. I was in the right wheel track and he still squeezed past, which explains the next part! I did the un-intelligent thing and reacted, he was too scared to even look at me when I pulled beside him and started yelling, and asking him to pull over so I could puchasize his face. You'll find these twatts cowards when it comes down to it. All tough in a big steel cage but absolute cowards when you call them out. Not a smart move on my part, hardly something i'm proud of, but I guess everyone loses it every now and then. I couold'nt believe he would'nt even look at me though. I sat beside him instead of splitting for a long way, and he went from aggro attempted murderer to absolute little girl immediately.

Not a reccommended course of action, but it does show you what kind of losers these idiots are. Just feel good in the fact that they are probably just compensating for a tiny penis.

So what's the problem ? When the lights go green you have to nail it anyway to make sure you get away before them, so in effect it is you that's starting the race. The car driver has seen you squeeze in to his lane as if you own it so it is only fair if he has a bit of a drag. Livens up the journey for both of you. Just make sure you don't stall it.

No offense mate but think about what your saying ae.

Ive owned a zxr250 a long time ago, and have had all sorts of cars. Now ive never ridden a gsf250 but id imagine it would be slower than my old zxr250. Most if not all of these 'base-model commodores' can accelerate to 50 a lot easier than your bike can and also a lot quicker.

My cage is a 94 commodore v6 (not a base model its a mid range model so heavier and therefore slower than base models) and its all too easy to get upto 50 without even trying.

Now you think about your 250.. youd have to be ringing its nuts off in 1st just to give a commodore a run for its money in a 'drag at the lights' as you might say.

So think about it.. you may be initiating the drag by thrashing your vehicle to get upto 50 before the commodore some what cruises upto 50 in the same time.

BULLSHIT! My brother's 400kW (modified) Clubsport and I raced at the drag-strip a while back, me on my CBR250RR, and I beat him off the line and up to about half track no problem. Only after half track did he over-take me, obviously because his car will hit 300 no problem...
Just because I ride a smaller bike than you, don't think it's slow, by any means... More often than not it comes down to the rider, I think everyone would agree!
