The Superintendant comes across as trying a form of Clayton's policing - the policing you're having when you're not having policing. So there's a video camera somewhere in CD? That leaves a lotta CD with no camera.

For the few in the wrong place at the wrong time it'll just be one more form of road tax.

There is an intersection near where I work and only a few hundred yards from the Police Station where the laws are broken more often than they are observed but this attracts no interest at all. A fair bit of broken glass and a lot of near misses but.....

So what part of 'don't ride on the wrong side of the road, over yellow lines or around corners' is so hard to understand. And out comes that old revenue gathering tripe... surely you jest!

At least with using a camera we won't get cops parking up on bends or turning to chase the dicks that do it... Geez, the police try to do the right thing to keep all motorists, yes bikes too, safe and still they moan.

[QUOTE=Cayman911;1129748502]I believe the speed limits need to be updated.

There was a thing about it on tv, that those speed limits especially the cornering speeds were based on the technology and automobiles of back then. and by back then yea it means BACK then, not just 10 years ago.

even though in the last 10 years the auto industry has developed incredible. so those speed limits become obsolete.QUOTE]

Please get in touch with Newton and have him update the law of physics. The kinetic energy exterted currently increases disproportionately with speed. If you can get Newton to agree that doing 120 exerts no more kinetic energy than doing 100, I'll agree with you about increasing speed limits.

Cars and roads have gotten far better, but the law's of physics haven't.

    So there.

Kinetic energy probably isn't a good argument, since if it were air travel would be impossibly dangerous. A beter argument might be that , although roads , cars etc have improved, human reaction times and processing capability haven't. We may have Ferrari cars, but they're still being drivien with Model T reflexes. There's a reason why planes can safely fly at 600kph, but they don't allow them to fly with just a few inches between them.

maybe with their video cameras they'll catch a few of those white commodores that make sudden and dangerous U-turns and 3 point turns on yellow lines...

I agree with the first half of your first sentence but gather revenue they do. They budget on it, that's a fact.

Some police try to do the right thing, yes, but they are usually the newbies, before they are corrupted and made cynical by the old fellas. (That's the old fellas of today, not the honest, upstanding coppers we used to have.) I don't doubt that many people join the force with the best of intentions but the downhill slide starts soon after graduation.

I dont do extras. I'm not referring to stupid driving - I'm referring to stupid policing.

Stupid driving gets ordinary people killed. Stupid policing gets ordinary people nothing but targetted, alienated, angry, and light-pocketed.

Sounds like a pretty decent plan to me, a bit of heavier enforcement of dickhead driving might make the car/bike as cock extension drivers pull their head in a bit.

Also when is there going to be a thread without idiot ice cream salesmen dribbling all over it?

Thing is though, by putting a 50k speed limit on a straight wide stretch of road, they are not making the road any safer. they are just criminalising innocent people,
because no one will do 50. perfect example of that is a newly built road behind my house. no one does 50, everyone (myself included) does about 70-80km/h. because that feels like a good speed.

I dont know who deals with the road speed limits....police or NZTA, but who are they kidding? they need to properly get their act together instead of slapping 50's everywhere.

Well I've seen some pretty bloody shocking overtaking manouvres on the open road, I think it'll be a good thing if they're recording and targetting this.

National Radio discussed this today on 'The Panel"
They had the Central District Police Commander, Superintendent Russell Gibson on for about 10 mins.

The conversation starts at about the 4:28 minute mark and runs to 14:22.

I reported a cop for doing just this this morning on the Northern Motorway. 85/90km/h in the outside lane. Eighteen vehicles behind him, queuing.

    Idiot pigs.
I vote we get every journalist and sub editor in the country and lock them in a large room. Only let them out where they promise to never abuse superlatives, sensationalise a story or take it upon themselves to speak for the 'nation'

Then we might get some sort of real reporting than filling the news stream with bullshit articles like this
